That King of The Hill was great.

The Wild Shirtless Lyrics of Mark Farner (C. Grisso/McCain), Friday, 6 March 2009 20:35 (sixteen years ago)

I'm voting for her work on TV's "Fraiser".

-:¦:-•(¯'•omg•'¯)•-:¦:- (dan m), Friday, 6 March 2009 20:36 (sixteen years ago)

lol i thought i would just include it all :-/

horseshoe, Friday, 6 March 2009 20:37 (sixteen years ago)

My first roommate in Chicago, who I found through the classifieds, was in a sign-language class with Laura Linney at Brown in the early 80s, said she was very sweet [/suzy]

Bianca Jagger (jaymc), Friday, 6 March 2009 20:38 (sixteen years ago)

since YCCoM, her career highlight is slapping that kid in Squid.

Dr Morbius, Friday, 6 March 2009 20:41 (sixteen years ago)

i thought p.s. was good but i voted for truman show

the British have some odd talents, writing obituaries is one of them (Lamp), Friday, 6 March 2009 20:49 (sixteen years ago)

i like p.s., too.

horseshoe, Friday, 6 March 2009 20:50 (sixteen years ago)

I kind of hate her...

Wes HI DEREson (HI DERE), Friday, 6 March 2009 20:52 (sixteen years ago)

:(

horseshoe, Friday, 6 March 2009 20:53 (sixteen years ago)

If it's any consolation, it's not Julianne Moore levels of hate.

Wes HI DEREson (HI DERE), Friday, 6 March 2009 20:54 (sixteen years ago)

she was good as abigail adams, and obviously in yccom. voted squid because that character could have been really hate-able and wasn't.

paper plans (tipsy mothra), Friday, 6 March 2009 20:55 (sixteen years ago)

Laura Linney is super-awesome and (i feel) muchos underrated. i am voting for my favourite movie of those Squid and the Whale, though Linney herself might've been better in You Can Count on Me.

Ludo, Friday, 6 March 2009 21:45 (sixteen years ago)

i don't think she's underrated by people who know wassup

Surmounter, Friday, 6 March 2009 21:47 (sixteen years ago)

I used to like her well enough but I'm finding her performance in John Adams really offputting for some reason. (5 episodes in)

WmC, Friday, 6 March 2009 22:06 (sixteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Friday, 13 March 2009 00:01 (sixteen years ago)

ya i love laura linney. not sure what i'll vote for though

mark cl, Friday, 13 March 2009 00:02 (sixteen years ago)

'savages' was great. maybe that one?

mark cl, Friday, 13 March 2009 00:02 (sixteen years ago)

so good... voting tales of the city b/c that's where i met her and she made it

butt-rock miyagi (rogermexico.), Friday, 13 March 2009 04:05 (sixteen years ago)

She looked her best in P.S., don;t really remember the movie though.

svend, Friday, 13 March 2009 04:16 (sixteen years ago)

Ugh... Didn't like Savages at all, but not because of her. Breach and Mothman were pretty good movies in retrospect.

Chris Barrus (Elvis Telecom), Friday, 13 March 2009 04:20 (sixteen years ago)

Congo

cob nobblin' (latebloomer), Friday, 13 March 2009 04:22 (sixteen years ago)

highlight of anybody's resume if you ask me

cob nobblin' (latebloomer), Friday, 13 March 2009 04:29 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, Congo vs. You Can Count On Me.

Someone Still Loves You Evan and Jaron (Tape Store), Friday, 13 March 2009 04:40 (sixteen years ago)

the latter does not have a talking ape and bruce campbell in it

cob nobblin' (latebloomer), Friday, 13 March 2009 04:44 (sixteen years ago)

either squid or john adams.

can't remember 'you can count on me'.

FREE DOM AND ETHAN (special guest stars mark bronson), Friday, 13 March 2009 14:07 (sixteen years ago)

did anyone else see the house of mirth? that is a great fucking movie, and she was amazing in it. better than her perf in you can count on me imo.

Matt P, Friday, 13 March 2009 14:13 (sixteen years ago)

looking at everything else up there it really should win.

Matt P, Friday, 13 March 2009 14:14 (sixteen years ago)

I liked her in Kinsey.

Simon H., Friday, 13 March 2009 15:11 (sixteen years ago)

Sexy in Kinsey, funny in The Savages, chilling in Mystic River, fucked up in Jindabyne and a bit of all four in The Squid and the Whale. She really knows how to pick roles.

Dorian (Dorianlynskey), Friday, 13 March 2009 15:20 (sixteen years ago)

M.V., Saturday, 14 March 2009 01:50 (sixteen years ago)

one year passes...

so i think she's lovely, but there's something about this photo that reminds me of william hurt

mookieproof, Sunday, 1 August 2010 23:22 (fifteen years ago)

that's a MAN, baby

calstars, Sunday, 1 August 2010 23:47 (fifteen years ago)

seriously, she needs to put her hair down. She looks like a pretty man in that photo.

calstars, Sunday, 1 August 2010 23:47 (fifteen years ago)

anyone else read the brief piece in New York mag about her? I'm sure she's a great actress and all but wow did they have a tough time filling a page and a half about her. Not sure she's worthy of the NYT mag cover treatment.

calstars, Sunday, 1 August 2010 23:49 (fifteen years ago)

one year passes...

She's formidable and charismatic in John Adams: her best work after YCCOM and Der Quid.

lumber up, limbaugh down (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 28 October 2011 01:00 (fourteen years ago)

Honestly? I thought she was absolutely, totally, insufferable; I've seen better olde timey acting at ¥e renaissance faires. I mean, maybe she comes into a better character in the second or third part or whatnot, but I shut the series off halfway through the first episode b/c she annoyed me so much. I can pinpoint the moment: during the first half hour, she's lying in bed with Giamatti, who's blatherskiting about taxes or representation or Paul Revere's bigger dick or summat, and she says 'ssshhhh' to him while putting her palm in his face. By which I mean she actually presses her palm onto his face and trails her fingers through his open mouth. It's super bizarre. Then, she sighs with double-underlined Genuine Concern. It's such a bad piece of acting that it's become a watchword among my friends; and saying "ssshhh" while trying to get your filthy hands against somebody's lips is a great game to play during screening nights.

turkey in the straw (x2) (remy bean), Friday, 28 October 2011 01:11 (fourteen years ago)

But it's a six-hour miniseries.

lumber up, limbaugh down (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 28 October 2011 01:17 (fourteen years ago)

there are a lot of hands in a lot of mouths; maybe that's why nobody comes to my screening parties any more

turkey in the straw (x2) (remy bean), Friday, 28 October 2011 01:20 (fourteen years ago)

(but fair enough – i really only made it 30 minutes into the series – and she might very well have pulled off something amazing during the subsequent 5.5 hours)

turkey in the straw (x2) (remy bean), Friday, 28 October 2011 01:21 (fourteen years ago)

But you are right: refusing to saddle the viewer with the full dose of a truthful portrait of an irascible, cantankerous John Adams, the writers scrubbed most of Abigail's ice-queen side clean.

lumber up, limbaugh down (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 28 October 2011 01:24 (fourteen years ago)

wait, are you saying the real john adams was even more cantankerous? i could barely watch a whole miniseries of that asshole

The sham nation of Israel should be destroyed. (Princess TamTam), Friday, 28 October 2011 02:37 (fourteen years ago)

Guy was probably the most honest man ever elected president, which was why he turned out be a lousy politician.

lumber up, limbaugh down (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 28 October 2011 02:42 (fourteen years ago)

seven years pass...

Ozark is...weird. I'm four episodes in--there's been enough wild implausibility thus far that I can see it getting out-and-out silly before long. I'm still with it, though.

(I missed this poll at the time. The top two are so good; I probably would have voted for the winner.)

clemenza, Friday, 16 November 2018 13:07 (seven years ago)

total overactor, never cared for her

Scam jam, thank you ma’am (Sparkle Motion), Friday, 16 November 2018 15:27 (seven years ago)
