since YCCoM, her career highlight is slapping that kid in Squid.

she was good as abigail adams, and obviously in yccom. voted squid because that character could have been really hate-able and wasn't.

Laura Linney is super-awesome and (i feel) muchos underrated. i am voting for my favourite movie of those Squid and the Whale, though Linney herself might've been better in You Can Count on Me.

Ugh... Didn't like Savages at all, but not because of her. Breach and Mothman were pretty good movies in retrospect.

Sexy in Kinsey, funny in The Savages, chilling in Mystic River, fucked up in Jindabyne and a bit of all four in The Squid and the Whale. She really knows how to pick roles.

anyone else read the brief piece in New York mag about her? I'm sure she's a great actress and all but wow did they have a tough time filling a page and a half about her. Not sure she's worthy of the NYT mag cover treatment.

She's formidable and charismatic in John Adams: her best work after YCCOM and Der Quid.

Honestly? I thought she was absolutely, totally, insufferable; I've seen better olde timey acting at ¥e renaissance faires. I mean, maybe she comes into a better character in the second or third part or whatnot, but I shut the series off halfway through the first episode b/c she annoyed me so much. I can pinpoint the moment: during the first half hour, she's lying in bed with Giamatti, who's blatherskiting about taxes or representation or Paul Revere's bigger dick or summat, and she says 'ssshhhh' to him while putting her palm in his face. By which I mean she actually presses her palm onto his face and trails her fingers through his open mouth. It's super bizarre. Then, she sighs with double-underlined Genuine Concern. It's such a bad piece of acting that it's become a watchword among my friends; and saying "ssshhh" while trying to get your filthy hands against somebody's lips is a great game to play during screening nights.

But it's a six-hour miniseries.

(but fair enough – i really only made it 30 minutes into the series – and she might very well have pulled off something amazing during the subsequent 5.5 hours)

But you are right: refusing to saddle the viewer with the full dose of a truthful portrait of an irascible, cantankerous John Adams, the writers scrubbed most of Abigail's ice-queen side clean.

Guy was probably the most honest man ever elected president, which was why he turned out be a lousy politician.

Ozark is...weird. I'm four episodes in--there's been enough wild implausibility thus far that I can see it getting out-and-out silly before long. I'm still with it, though.
