This is an extremely interesting story, any decent books out there about one of the great tragic teams in sports?

I was hoping that would be Chelsea

As for books, isn't O'Leary's supposed to be actually quite good? A penny on Amazon. I also see Ridsdale has a book too, though one of the reviews points out that it is purely self-exculpatory, so not sure how insightful it will be
― Ismael Klata, Saturday, 7 March 2009 11:56 (sixteen years ago)
To be fair, most of the reviews say it's pretty fair-minded.

...even pretty good!

I only ever go by the one-star reviews, on basis that if they are reasonable and not just 'he ruined my club'/'lol leeds' then the book probably is flawed. I kind of figure the good reviews were probably written by the publicist anyway
― Ismael Klata, Saturday, 7 March 2009 12:05 (sixteen years ago)
I don't think either of those one-star reviews are either convincing or reasonable, whereas the other 8 reviews are. Your selection criteria are almost comically cynical!

I suppose they are a bit. Maybe Peter Ridsdale is just the man to restore my faith in human nature?

Hahaha, don't make me open up a can of Critical Thinking 101 on yr ass, just read the goddamn thing already :P

one excellent chapter of 'the away game' by aussie football writer matthew hall (a book mostly concerned with following the careers of australian players in europe), ostensibly about harry kewell, also shed a bit of light on leeds' attempts to siphon away as much australian talent as they could get without offering adequate compensation; strategies included pressuring one 14-year-old to give up his wish to represent australia at international level. they deserve everything that has befallen them since, frankly, including ken bates.

last seen for APIA-leichardt in the NSW state league
they always come back here totally physically shot. why is that?
no idea, maybe Leeds' famed night-time establishments took their toll
also lol @ NZ's finest gracing Elland Road (danny hay/jacob burns)

oh no, burns was one of ours.
think aussie guys often play through injuries because the foreginers are the first to get frozen out by coaches when things go bad ('the away game' illustrated this well). paul okon did it in italy and basically fucked his career for about three years.
anyway, leeds united.

Hopefully David Conn will get around to writing the definite book on the rise and fall of Leeds. He's probably the only journo with the balls to go after Bates/Ridsdale et al http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2009/mar/04/leeds-united-ken-bates

As for Leeds, we'll be going up to Elland Road next season. Should be good times, especially if my brother's at uni there.
