too tough. Matt Dillon episode has the guide turning into a bird, as well as some of the narrator's finest moments. "I think this is John's best show yet" and "Fisherman don't have much to say to each other." But yeah, Tom Waits, or the ham sandwich and the revolver.

one year passes...

Dipping into season 3 of Painting with John, ep 2 is one long shaggy dog story in the classic "Yak" style with a fantastic episode-length jam. The music is the best part, and I kept wondering who was playing what and how it was recorded...and then there's a whole episode called "How the Music Was Made" that's just studio footage in NYC! Great to see all those now-old downtown dudes doing their thing (Kenny Wolleson, Calvin Weston, Steven Bernstein, etc). Also interesting to see that Lurie demo-ed out the whole score on guitar, and played guitar (not sax) on the sessions. Hope they release a soundtrack as it's basically a whole new Lounge Lizards album.

What a thing that HBO gave him money to do this.
