yeah

even better I think I paid $60 to have the crucible sit on my shelf for 8 months

鬼の手 (Edward III), Tuesday, 10 March 2009 16:16 (sixteen years ago)

I have a strict policy of guilt free returns if I don't watch a movie within a week of getting it. This is after paying $60 to have some Tarkovsky movie sit on our shelf for 8 months.

home of the vain (Jenny), Tuesday, 10 March 2009 16:18 (sixteen years ago)

I just signed up for netflix this week. I am sorta expecting to do this with like half the things I get.

iatee, Tuesday, 10 March 2009 16:20 (sixteen years ago)

I've never kept all three movies for more than a week. And never kept a single movie for longer than two.

Alex in SF, Tuesday, 10 March 2009 16:20 (sixteen years ago)

Obviously a couple of those I did not watch (or watch completely anyway.)

Alex in SF, Tuesday, 10 March 2009 16:22 (sixteen years ago)

a good poll would be longest amt of time you've kept a movie. think i skimmed my history and longest was around 2 months. ive never returned anything w/out watching

johnny crunch, Tuesday, 10 March 2009 16:23 (sixteen years ago)

also can someone explain to me how these big fines occur? I thought there were no late fees.

iatee, Tuesday, 10 March 2009 16:24 (sixteen years ago)

yeah, are you guys talkin about netflix or just renting movies from the store? because this thread is about Netflix (TM)

blappy gilmore (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 10 March 2009 16:25 (sixteen years ago)

i have done this only with american gangster so far

bnw, Tuesday, 10 March 2009 16:34 (sixteen years ago)

I did this yesterday with Benny's Video. Have done it probably 8-10 times so far.

WmC, Tuesday, 10 March 2009 16:57 (sixteen years ago)

If you leave a Netflix movie sitting on the shelf for 8 months, you are still paying the monthly fees... thats how it can cost $60 for an unwatched movie. You just aren't taking advantage of what you pay for. Like not going to the gym when you have a membership.

legendary North American forest ape (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 10 March 2009 17:00 (sixteen years ago)

8 months seems like a crazy long time.

Alex in SF, Tuesday, 10 March 2009 17:01 (sixteen years ago)

oh that makes sense

iatee, Tuesday, 10 March 2009 17:04 (sixteen years ago)

btw, the only movie I ever returned unwatched: Singin' In The Rain :/

blappy gilmore (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 10 March 2009 17:05 (sixteen years ago)

I've never returned a movie without watching it. I have kept a movie 3-4 months. Usually it happens because my girlfriend insists on watching a particular movie with me, but whenever we want to watch a movie together she feels like watching something else.

It also sometimes happens with 3+ hour movies because I don't always have the time (or am too tired) to watch a movie that long.

that's silly, it would've only taken 6 months to watch

鬼の手 (Edward III), Tuesday, 10 March 2009 17:12 (sixteen years ago)

I convinced my girlfriend to watch Stalker with me. Since then it's been difficult to convince her to watch any movie she's never heard of with me.

peter in montreal, Tuesday, 10 March 2009 17:16 (sixteen years ago)

hahahahaha

oscarbate (jjjusten), Tuesday, 10 March 2009 17:18 (sixteen years ago)

that reminds me i need to send some shit off. i've watched a bunch of on demand stuff in the meantime, but State and Main, your first third was shitty, and you're going back.

mas how i break it down tuo an extent (goole), Tuesday, 10 March 2009 17:20 (sixteen years ago)

There will be Blood

Stray Dog

Super Cub, Tuesday, 10 March 2009 17:24 (sixteen years ago)

I think the longest I ever kept anything was The Passion of Joan of Arc for three weeks. I was busy.

I copy all my movies, so this happens often, though usually I see something within a week or so of getting it.

Only exception so far has been "Kazaam!"

Adam Bruneau, Monday, 23 March 2009 02:32 (sixteen years ago)

lol

abe being busy (k3vin k.), Monday, 23 March 2009 02:48 (sixteen years ago)

I've had Netflix since '05.

Unwatched:
Shine
The Straight Story (also rented this a few years ago from a local vid store and ate a ton of late charges on it - never watched)
Style Wars
Moog
Delicatessen (for some reason I just can't watch this movie - also ate late fees from terrestrial video store on this one)
In This World (twice!)
Hotel Rwanda (twice!) I lol'd when I saw this in the WSJ article
Inland Empire
Lust, Caution (twice!)
The King of Kong
Bob Le Flambeur
Tsotsi
The Story of Ingrid Newkirk and PETA
Firefly

The Lost Boys Buff Guy Playing Sax (rockapads), Monday, 23 March 2009 04:22 (sixteen years ago)

also lol'd at: High-brow, dense or dark movies, like "The Passion of the Christ,"

The Lost Boys Buff Guy Playing Sax (rockapads), Monday, 23 March 2009 04:23 (sixteen years ago)

this happens to me a few times a year honestly. I go through periods where I have stuff come in, watch it, send it back...usually when there are a lot of new releases out that I didn't see in a theater (and I never see movies in a theater), so this will last a long time, all the fall/winter movies are coming out now, but I just went through about two months where it was slim pickings, which meant lots of pixar movies for the kid, and some movies like the Believer and Brick Lane I could not will myself to watch. back they went.

akm, Monday, 23 March 2009 04:36 (sixteen years ago)

Yes.

Over half the 'music' (concert or documentary) DVDs I get, and anything that disrupts my watching of a series, whether that series be Medium, The Ultimate Fighter, or Deadwood. BUT..I always put them to the back of the list once I send them back, mostly out of guilt.
