crap attempts at robbery

so, yesterday i was on the bus from finsbury park to camden (no29 i think), and this guy opposite starts looking at me, then he leans over and asks if i could shut the window, i turn sideways to close it, and leans across and 'helps', placing his carrier bag across my front jacket pocket, this didn't feel right, so i placed my hand on my mobile, which was sticking out the top.

then he says, its too hot, could you open the window, so i opened it again, and he has another go and getting in my pocket, although my hand is now pressing quite firmly on my mobile, and its not easy to get out of such a tight pocket anyway. finally, he asks me, could i close the window, so i closed it again. at this point he realises he's not going to get the phone and he gets off the bus. as we pull away i look at the window at him and do "i'm sorry mate, better luck next time" face

so, inept robberies anyone?

He sounds like he was trying quite hard. That is quite funny. Luckily noone has tried to rob me. Whilst I lived m with my parents we got burgled, but they simply burgled our shed, despite the house being unlocked. That could be seen as inept.

Smackheads in Kwiksave. Very hot day. Very big coats. Arms at approx 45 degrees to their bodies. The look of pity on the cashiers face was priceless. Plus lad who ran away with a bottle of champagne from the local offy. Then opened it.

Today, the saleslady attempted to give me only a 7% discount on my new black top when the signage clearly indicated that the blue sticker means 70% off the marked price! Not so fast, I told her.

I read once about one where the robber actually LOST money.

He gave the clerk a $20, asking for change (the idea being the clerk would open the case register and once it was opened, he would then grab the whole cash drawer and run off). Everything went as planned...except for the fact that the cash drawer had less than $20 in it at that moment.

ha, i'd forgotten about last years chatterton road easter egg burglar, who broke into out house, missed all the money and goods, and took 2 easter eggs but then got panicked and dropped them in the hall, leaving empty handed...

there was this large spread-out gang of kids in Rome all trying out the same lame pick-pocket routine. hold out a paper as if trying to sell it, add extra distraction of another friend talking to you at the same time, while your arm under the paper goes into pocket.

I saw all this, but then almost fell for it. my eurorail ticket and wallet were half-way out when I realised with an imaginary slap to the forehead. Boy did I feel stupid. VERY stupid.

When my parents got burgled a few years ago, it was for some reason only my stuff they stole. As I'd just got back from my year abroad in Italy, I actually got to use the line "a burglar stole my homework, miss" with complete honesty.

My dad disturbed them when they tried to steal his car, but couldn't work out how to drive an automatic, and just sat there revving it for a couple of minutes, waking the household and moving precisely nowhere.

They got away, but one of them was later arrested for the theft - he was already in prison at the time. Duh.

four years pass...
Scott and I just had some money stolen from our car by a shifty guy in the convenience store parking lot. I didn't actually see him do it, just saw him peering into people's cars and standing next to mine and then some money was missing (but not sure exactly how much we had, so didn't report it as a crime). I called the cops once we got home and they apprehended him but who knows if they'll keep him or have anything to charge him with. He was a scary-looking dude. I hope I won't bump into him on this island. I walked away from the car with the baby cuz he was crying and left my bag in plain view with the window open - but I was not more than 10 feet away, just stepping into the shade with the baby while Scott ran in for sandwiches. I confronted the guy and he immediately went on the defensive and showed me what he had in his pockets (but he had a pair of pants slung over his arm like he was hiding something). There was 1 dollar in my wallet, and before there was probably more like $12. No big woop, but now I feel all shook up and unable to concentrate on my work.

:-(

I was hoping this might have been revived in honour of the dude who fell asleep robbing a bank.

Oh, we're fine. You just get that "fight or flight" adrenalin that's hard to shake off.

I thought this was going to be about the guy who blew up the speed camera with thermite cause he was mad at it for having taken a picture of his license plate some days before. apparently he thought the camera's evidence would be destroyed. unfortunately for him, the images are all stored in a hard drive in the camera's metal base, which wasn't harmed, and worst of all, the explosion triggered the camera's mechanism - which duly snapped a photo of him in the act.
