are the Tusken Raiders the Palestinians of the Star Wars universe? You know, their planet has been conquered & occupied, they are forced out into the margins, and they fight back (largely ineffectually) with unspeakeable savagery.

They are more like Saharan nomadic peoples. Their culture is nomadic (they weren't forced into it - at least not recently).

I don't know, ask Tom Paulin [who managed to see Attack of the Clones as an allegory about the legitimacy of Bush's election victory, despite the film having been in production for.. how long?]

There's more than a little American Indian/settler dynamic going on, of course, given Lucas' drawing on that part of his film upbringing. Someone pointed out on theforce.net how the one shot of Anakin overlooking the Tusken camp is reminiscent of a similar shot in The Searchers. Notably, the new film is the first time the Tusken Raiders have been shown in a, er, more 'human' light, ie with families and all, doubtless to further show how Anakin is starting to screw up given his reaction after finding his mom...

Does that make Sadaam Husein Ja Ja? Or is it Osama Bin Kenobi?

I think Ariel Sharon looks a bit like Admiral Ackbar but without the lovely creases in his trousers.

Main film shooting was complete in summer 2000, well before the election. Reshoots were done in summer 2001.

Do the Tusken Raiders only live on Tattoine, does anyone know?

are there any other types of Tusken people? You know, Tusken Accountants and that kind of thing?

Tusken raiders? Or Tuscan raiders? Who raids Tuscany? Senior New Labour figures, that's who. Anakin is therefore kicking some supine pro-business ass, and all power to his lightsabre.

Probably not though...

"Tusken Accountants always ride single file, to hide their numbers."
