Least annoying of these G2 writers

Deliberately left out Brooker, Banks-Smith or anyone else that people actually like. Also I've only included people who generally write about fluff rather than serious stuff.

None of these people annoy me. They are writers.

Mark G, Friday, 13 March 2009 13:41 (sixteen years ago)

Some of them write annoyingly though.

I generally enjoy Lost in Showbiz when Hyde does it. Tim Dowling has flashes of genuine wit as well. Can't stand Barton, Freeman, Hanson and Wolloston.

Sam Wollaston <-- this dude is the worst. Esp the clanking of gears and ratchets when he tries to be funny.

Marina Hyde is the least annoying.

Very close call between Barton and Woolaston as to who deserves slow, painful death the most. Feck it, definitely Barton for those unreadably embarrassing music pieces in Film&Music on a Friday.

Whither J Harris?!?

Venga, Friday, 13 March 2009 15:42 (sixteen years ago)

Mainly writes for Film & Music doesn't he? As does Barton these days I suppose.

chap, Friday, 13 March 2009 15:50 (sixteen years ago)

Most of these people haven't made the slightest impression upon me.

Hreidarsson The Storm (Matt DC), Friday, 13 March 2009 15:53 (sixteen years ago)

The only one who has actively annoyed me is Laura Barton and on occasion Marina Hyde.

I worry for the state of mind of people who read G2 on a regular enough basis to have an opinion on all of them.

Hreidarsson The Storm (Matt DC), Friday, 13 March 2009 15:54 (sixteen years ago)

Prefer Hadley Freeman's Lost in Showbiz even tho her writing style is impossibly bad. Wollaston is an utter moron, thick as a plank. I can remember him taking over the TV section and it's been a huge drop in quality since.

Gareth McLean and Sarah Dempster don't annoy me much.

That's me fucked then.

Barton obviously is sickening.

Local Garda, Friday, 13 March 2009 16:01 (sixteen years ago)

Sarah Dempster can be quite witty. Tanya Gold is excruciatingly entertaining or maybe vice versa. Hyde has made me laugh a few times. Most of the others are just bland. But Mangan, Freeman and Wollaston are irredeemable. I think Wollaston may edge it.

Stevie T, Friday, 13 March 2009 16:02 (sixteen years ago)

Wollaston is just so...."I'M A BLOKE INNIT"

Local Garda, Friday, 13 March 2009 16:04 (sixteen years ago)

I think the problem is all these people wind up writing too much stuff. For example, Marina Hyde was really good when she was just doing the diary. Then of all a second she seemed to have a sports column, a showbiz column, a politics column etc etc. I think you would have to be Flann O'Brien or SJ Perelman to be reliably entertaining day after day after day.

Stevie T, Friday, 13 March 2009 16:11 (sixteen years ago)

One of these writers listed was humped and dumped by a friend of mine when friend was doing diary shifts.

Wollaston was a good editor but it's not QUITE the same thing, is it?

Marina Hyde's jokes are better written, but otherwise 'aaaaaaaaah told'.
