WTF NO BREAM

POLLonius (country matters), Monday, 16 March 2009 14:31 (sixteen years ago)

Out of these ones, it's gotta be something like Mackerel or Monkfish or Sea Bass...deffo not Salmon or Cod

POLLonius (country matters), Monday, 16 March 2009 14:33 (sixteen years ago)

Sorry, copied off a wikipedia list which bream wasn't on until I just added it.

I might vote mackerel myself. Really tasty and pretty cheap.

chap, Monday, 16 March 2009 14:35 (sixteen years ago)

does shad include shad roe?

Dane Cook's Illustrated (I DIED), Monday, 16 March 2009 14:36 (sixteen years ago)

Just the fish itself. Otherwise I probably should've included sturgeon.

chap, Monday, 16 March 2009 14:36 (sixteen years ago)

Mackerel would win my vote right now were it not such a terrible fish for the bones.

POLLonius (country matters), Monday, 16 March 2009 14:38 (sixteen years ago)

SALMON.
Second in line (on the line? roffle... not really) would be eel (Japanese style) but after seeing how it looked before it was sliced 'n' grilled: urgh.

the tip of the tongue taking a trip tralalala (stevienixed), Monday, 16 March 2009 14:41 (sixteen years ago)

going for cod, because i don't really like fish and it's the least 'fishy' in terms of strong taste. would usually only take battered with chips, though.

Anthony, I am not an Alcoholic & Drunk (darraghmac), Monday, 16 March 2009 14:42 (sixteen years ago)

ha Trout, easy.

Ant Attack.. (Ste), Monday, 16 March 2009 14:44 (sixteen years ago)

this is so hard... fish vary so much in terms of flavour. but then again there's so much on this list that i've never (knowingly) eaten

just sayin, Monday, 16 March 2009 14:46 (sixteen years ago)

if including all varieties, tuna easy.

mizzell, Monday, 16 March 2009 14:49 (sixteen years ago)

i mean it's hard to say that bluefine tuna is good for eating, since it is so overfished, but christ it's tasty.

mizzell, Monday, 16 March 2009 14:52 (sixteen years ago)

swordfish mmm

Surmounter, Monday, 16 March 2009 14:52 (sixteen years ago)

Tough choice. Hard to pick between the local (catfish) and my favorite at the sushi bar (eel).

xxxpost, yeah, I've only had toro a couple of times but that makes it even tougher.

WmC, Monday, 16 March 2009 14:52 (sixteen years ago)

Swordfish.

Two hands in the air, that's the Lampard Skank (Matt DC), Monday, 16 March 2009 14:54 (sixteen years ago)

Striped Bass, aka Rockfish.

Three Word Username, Monday, 16 March 2009 14:55 (sixteen years ago)

i don't like tuna much since it reminds me of meat too much. :-( unless it's (almost) raw.
salmon wins every time: fishy orgasm

the tip of the tongue taking a trip tralalala (stevienixed), Monday, 16 March 2009 15:17 (sixteen years ago)

if you vote salmon or cod, you hate fish

POLLonius (country matters), Monday, 16 March 2009 15:19 (sixteen years ago)

if you vote anchovy, you hate life itself

POLLonius (country matters), Monday, 16 March 2009 15:20 (sixteen years ago)

i love skate too

o man u so wrong

just sayin, Monday, 16 March 2009 15:21 (sixteen years ago)

^what they said

double dutch bus schedule (donna rouge), Monday, 16 March 2009 15:22 (sixteen years ago)

lol ok i overstate things but anchovies are like kippers - they're fish when you want a savoury salty snack, not the luscious seafood aromas of a fresh catch

POLLonius (country matters), Monday, 16 March 2009 15:23 (sixteen years ago)

like a good piece of HALIBUT

Surmounter, Monday, 16 March 2009 15:23 (sixteen years ago)

have you had fresh anchovies at any point

xpost

just sayin, Monday, 16 March 2009 15:23 (sixteen years ago)

Salmon is the winner because it's so versitile. It's the people's fish.

poxyfuzak (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 16 March 2009 15:24 (sixteen years ago)

hmm...i'm a huge fan of sprats and whitebait (esp fried and devoured whole)...maybe anchovies are pretty much the same thing

POLLonius (country matters), Monday, 16 March 2009 15:25 (sixteen years ago)

I voted salmon right after I saw that second post, just because I bristled at it.

kenan, Monday, 16 March 2009 15:25 (sixteen years ago)

"if you vote salmon or cod, you hate fish"

i don't hate it. i love fish... in my mouth. esp salmon. i always think that if you pick tuna, you actually prefer meat over fish. THERE I SAID IT.

the tip of the tongue taking a trip tralalala (stevienixed), Monday, 16 March 2009 15:26 (sixteen years ago)

guys i want a plate of fish with a very summery salad and a glass of white wine, and maybe an empanada appetizer kind of thing

Surmounter, Monday, 16 March 2009 15:27 (sixteen years ago)

Going for Sea bass but actually what I mean by that is merluza negra which is sold as Chilean sea bass but is actually Patagonian toothfish.

Blackout Crew are the Beatles of donk (jim), Monday, 16 March 2009 15:27 (sixteen years ago)

i mean salmon and cod are NICE, esp fresh salmon...but they're a bit er tame and unfishy, also very default, y'know, blandly acceptable...i'm being very rockist about fish aren't i :(

on a more positive tip, seafood is the best!!!

POLLonius (country matters), Monday, 16 March 2009 15:28 (sixteen years ago)

are we eating this raw or cooked?

kenan, Monday, 16 March 2009 15:28 (sixteen years ago)

so glad i came around on seafood (used to hate it) - it was like NEW WORLD OF FLAVOR AND TEXTURE HERE STEP RIGHT UP

double dutch bus schedule (donna rouge), Monday, 16 March 2009 15:31 (sixteen years ago)

CM, dude, you're right. I know very little when it comes to fish. It's a cliche to pick salmon.

the tip of the tongue taking a trip tralalala (stevienixed), Monday, 16 March 2009 15:36 (sixteen years ago)

take food tips from the english and you've already lost, nath.

ian, Monday, 16 March 2009 15:37 (sixteen years ago)

I don't give fuck from cliche. I went to high school in Alaska. Salmon 4EVA!

Thrills as Cheap as Gas (Oilyrags), Monday, 16 March 2009 15:38 (sixteen years ago)

trout, esp rainbow, is a fine choice as well btw, maybe the best freshwater choice

Thrills as Cheap as Gas (Oilyrags), Monday, 16 March 2009 15:40 (sixteen years ago)

I think I prefer trout to salmon, it's slightly subtler. (Smoked salmon rules supreme though, obv.)

chap, Monday, 16 March 2009 15:41 (sixteen years ago)

no bluefish on the list is sad :(

ian, Monday, 16 March 2009 15:43 (sixteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Monday, 23 March 2009 00:01 (sixteen years ago)

Salmon is incredibly fishy-tasting wtf, thats why a lot of people cant stand it. I hope by salmon, though, people are thinking salmon had fresh and grilled as cutlets etc and NOT canned salmon (which is fine, but should not be part of a fish poll).

I actually really like flake (shark) but thats a cheat - no bones, barely any fish flavour.

For an all-rounder I'm voting snapper. Red Emperor snapper from sparkling east coast aussie waters, cooked on the BBQ = bliss.

one art, please (Trayce), Monday, 23 March 2009 00:08 (sixteen years ago)

love haddock, salmon, cod if used right.

LOVE seafood so much it's untrue. got an amazing thai veggie/seafood/fish restaurant on my street where I ate tonight, unbelievably good salmon red curry and stuff, so good.

Local Garda, Monday, 23 March 2009 00:42 (sixteen years ago)

Sea Bass!

f f murray abraham (G00blar), Monday, 23 March 2009 00:47 (sixteen years ago)

No walleye, no credibility.
Voting halibut.

kate78, Monday, 23 March 2009 08:05 (sixteen years ago)

voted for haddock. love it in fish & chips.

i'm so not a fishy-fish person, and a lot of the fish i do like are higher on the food chain and are overfished, contain loads of mercury, etc. i eat fish pretty rarely though.

battlestar elastica (get bent), Monday, 23 March 2009 08:13 (sixteen years ago)

boring old tuna for me

2 ears + 1 ❤ (Pillbox), Monday, 23 March 2009 08:46 (sixteen years ago)

lex pretend, Monday, 23 March 2009 08:46 (sixteen years ago)

though raw tuna in sushi...

lex pretend, Monday, 23 March 2009 08:47 (sixteen years ago)

my two cats would also like to vote for tuna, btw.

2 ears + 1 ❤ (Pillbox), Monday, 23 March 2009 08:51 (sixteen years ago)

has to be monkfish but an honourable mention for (fresh) anchovies

vain_bowers, Monday, 23 March 2009 09:02 (sixteen years ago)

Sardines deserve rep too, esp good big fresh juicy ones cooked over coals and drenched in herbs and garlic, nom.

^^^ this!

also things like tilapia or mahi mahi...super mild but much better than cod imo.

no votes for shark or skate make me :(

salmon is only ok to me -- it is best raw so i don't make it very much.

he sounded italian enough to give me something (the schef (adam schefter ha ha)), Tuesday, 24 March 2009 01:37 (sixteen years ago)

i ate shark for the first time last week.
Shark empanada from Caracas!

ian, Tuesday, 24 March 2009 01:40 (sixteen years ago)

p.s. i am waiting on an anchovy/pepperoni pizza right now.

ian, Tuesday, 24 March 2009 01:43 (sixteen years ago)

I'm prob wrong but i thought in Aus it's shark a lot of the time you order budget fish n chips?

wilter, Tuesday, 24 March 2009 01:46 (sixteen years ago)

lo (cozwn), Tuesday, 24 March 2009 01:56 (sixteen years ago)

three weeks pass...

a strange man just knocked on my door to tell me "if you like fish, i'm just around the corner. I'm the fishman!"

anyone else have a fishman?

Ant Attack.. (Ste), Friday, 17 April 2009 12:13 (sixteen years ago)

Ormskirk used to have 'Jan Jan the Fishman' who would travel from pub to pub just before kicking out time flogging cockles and crabsticks etc to the punters non of the landlords minded and he was a local hero, I once got a lift off him from the Royal Oak to the Buck'th Vine on a pub crawl.

Jarlrmai, Friday, 17 April 2009 12:17 (sixteen years ago)

Sadly he has now retired.

Jarlrmai, Friday, 17 April 2009 12:17 (sixteen years ago)

he wasn't a largish dude in a white overcoat? we had somone similar in Warrington, but I know he did quite the rounds in the north west.

use to love the crabsticks, or packets of twirls

Ant Attack.. (Ste), Friday, 17 April 2009 12:18 (sixteen years ago)

He was Scandinavian had a white coat and wicker basket, used to announce himself with the words "Fresh Fish" even thouhg it was all preserved stuff ans packets of scampi fries, it was likely the very same chap.

Jarlrmai, Friday, 17 April 2009 12:24 (sixteen years ago)

in our local he used to get a rapturous welcome with everyone singing 'cockles and muscles', obviously the later he came the louder the singing.

Ant Attack.. (Ste), Friday, 17 April 2009 12:29 (sixteen years ago)

Oh man fishman coming round the pub was about the awesomest part of a night out when I was a kid. Banks's Bitter + tub of cockles = High Life

Pat Phoenix Wright, Messageboard Attorney (Noodle Vague), Friday, 17 April 2009 12:31 (sixteen years ago)

five months pass...

I can only guess that none of you ever ate a fresh north sea sole meunière.

StanM, Friday, 9 October 2009 08:17 (sixteen years ago)

ta for that, Niles.
