Living at Night, Health, and a Danish

I was listening to the BBC this morning, and they were discussing the Danish lawsuit where employers in Denmark have started paying compensation to women who have developed breast cancer after working night shifts.. A physician on the show was of the opinion that it's not night work, per se, that increases the cancer risk; it's going back and forth frequently between day living/shifts and night work. Hence, if you truly adjusted yr living schedule to be always night-oriented, you'd have a lesser cancer risk (at least, if you are a woman; men seem to be less at risk).

I've never worked 3rd shift, but I have worked 2nd shift: 3PM to 11PM. I enjoyed the fact that I worked alone for 6 hours of the day, with nobody to bother or interrupt me. I time-shifted my entire life, too: I slept in 'til 12 and went to bed 3-4AM. I'm sure it would have been much harder to time-shift to 3rd shift, however.

So is living at night, by which I mean maintaining a consistent 3rd (or 2nd?) shift life, even on the weekends and holidays, classic or is it dud?

It was classic when I was younger. I do really miss hanging around my house during the day, every day.

didn't see this but would've voted classic. i've had the same 2nd shift rhythm (sleep at 3/4, wake up at noon) for nearly five years now but may have to switch once i get a new job. i'm not sure if i can deal with living at normal hours again - i'm so used to being a night-owl. :/
