Burscough curves

Should they be re-opened, as all the Scallies will then go to Southport via train, or would it kill business in the town? Surely Disraeli's and the Arriba would be hardest hit, which wouldn't be a bad thing.

I think that re-opening the Burscough curves will allow our bear industry to thrive once again. Since when were scallies deserved of a capital letter anyway.

Robin, Wednesday, 22 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, they are a recognised social subgrouping, thus deserving of a capital. Like, oh, I don't know, Huns, Visigoths or Vandals.

They could fund the new lines by selling off the orignal antique rails. I would love to get my hands on some those Burscough curves.

Burscough? Eurgh, have you been to the Royal recently?

Burscough Curves Railway Line

Mr. Fearn: To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions what discussions he has had with Railtrack and the train operating companies on re-opening the Burscough Curves railway line between Southport and Preston. [101160]

Mr. Hill: None. However, the sSRA is engaged in discussions with Railtrack on service improvements to be delivered during its next charging period, 2001 to 2006. Re-opening Burscough Curve has been raised for consideration by Merseytravel. The sSRA will be sending to Railtrack shortly details of improvements it wishes them to cost in their next Network Management Statement.

Well at least they are thinking of it!

Oh please oh please oh please. Send the dickheads to Southport. Wouldn't it be much nicer? Social Nazism, ya gotta love it.

I think your both skirting around the real issue here which is Hovercraft access, too long has Ormskirk and surrounding area been without air cushioned vehicle facilities on any appreciable scale. Support for both Integrated Drive System hovercraft and Integrated Lift System ACV's has been consistently ignored at council meetings.

We the citizens of Ormskirk demand hovercraft access.

It can not be understated however that any in the design of any hoverport steps must me taken to avoid "plow in" the curse of the ACVs the world over. In the past due to poorly designed facilities hovercraft have capsized causing catastrophic results.

Seeya at the meeting at the docks on Tuesday, jim. I'll bring the placards, yoou bring the sandwiches.

Matt, Wednesday, 22 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Tuesday again? Can we write something on the placards this time please? Also what do you want in the sandwiches? Come up with any good chants recently my new one is:

"hovercraft, hovercraft, hovercraft, hovercraft, hovercraft, hovercraaaaft, hovercraft, hovercraft, hovercraft, hovercraaft, hovvvvercraaaaft"

We'll crack them yet.

Jarl'rmai, Wednesday, 22 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Can we write something on the placards this time please?

"Down with this sort of thing!" "Careful now."

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 22 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

We could also write "Comedy Geeks are worse than Satan in terms of their negative effect on the world".

Lynskey, Wednesday, 22 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yep, say what you like about Satan, he never recites routines you've heard hundreds of times before at you in the pub. Almost enough to overlook that whole "embodiment of evil" thing.

eleven months pass...
I'm disappointed that nearly a year on no-one on ILX has been able to comment on this pressing issue for the Ormskirk and West Lancs area.

Could someone please explain what these fabled curves actually *ARE*? Cause I'm thinking some kind of geometrical French Curve graphic design/drawing tool here.

kate, Thursday, 24 April 2003 12:26 (twenty-two years ago)

They are a defunct train line, connecting the twin hellholes of Southport and Skelmersdale, bypassing the town where I live. I started the thread as a pisstake of a load of London-centric threads which were prevalent at the time, and have revived because that seems to be the done thing at the mo'.
