My wife is overseas for an extended work assignment, and is thinking about getting a Slingbox so that she can watch tv in English.
Apart from any anti-television sentiment, anyone know anything about these magical devices?

it is great if you have fast internet. not so great if internet is slow (but it will still work however choppy and blocky it gets).
here is a funny trick you can play on your wife: patch a microphone into the audio input of slingbox and every so often when the wife is watching make a spooky voice "maaaaake me a saaaaaamwich"

I know the internet at our casa is pretty fast - not t1, but fast. And I'm sure hers is WAY fast - she's in a brand new corporate apartment in Japan.
