Not like chickens, but birds that can actually fly?

This is the first thing I thought of this morning. Perhaps a pet budgie that was a fucking fatty?

Can an obese bird still fly?

i'm shy (Abbott), Monday, 30 March 2009 20:01 (sixteen years ago)

Too fat to fly?

Many warblers will weigh twice their normal weight when they begin their migration and will need the best possible departure conditions when setting off. Fatter birds may also be more vulnerable to predators (and be a better meal for them!) as they cannot maneuver so easily.

We have had some fat fuckin' robins hanging out in the backyard this spring. They ate well in Mexico this winter.

btw do not google img search for "obese bird", it is disturbing but not very educational

Yes, birds can get obese. We have some enormous pigeons around here. Some of them are so big that they have to take a run up to get in the air, and when they're flying their wings sound like those of a vulture.

This news is fantastic.

in Antarctica i knew some people that fed a skua 14 hot dogs. he tried to fly and sort of did, his belly bouncing along the ice

Why, in Encounters at the End of the World, did Herzog not assault the penguin guy with the question, "Can a PENguin become oBESE?" Of course, it is much more important to ask, as he did, if they can become deRANGED.

(I like to impersonate Werner Herzog when alone in my home.)

yes pigeons - i dunno what's worse, the obese ones who can barely walk let alone fly from eating all the crap the rats didn't find yet (as Tracy Jordan sed, "why are you eating garbage don't you know you can fly?!") , or the lean cocky bastards who keep swopping at eye level and making you flinch

also not obese but the size of those seagulls that strut around trying to steal your chips is unnerving too

I <3 gulls, esp herring gulls

My dog gets very annoyed when he sees "Fat Pidgey" sitting on the garden shed. I think he is sizest. Perhaps it's mean of me to say that Fat Pidgey is going to take ball-ie.

We've certainly bred turkeys to the extent that they can no longer naturally procreate.

I asked an ornithologist about this and she said there's few obese birds because they tend to get caught and eaten easier.
