Kisses Have Their Place, But Not When I'm Trying To Blow Your Head Off....

Saw "Attack of the Clones" on Friday. Pretty damn decent for $5.75. However, what purpose was the love story between Anakin and Amidala supposed to fill? A lovely bloodthirsty fight scene ends, then the story slows down while he whines about how much he misses her. I nearly fell asleep, each time.

Now comes the question:

Were /Are there any films (within the last 50 years) where the love story actually serves a purpose in a war film?

Colonel Kurtz loved Martin Sheen in Apocalypse Now.

And loved him well. Can I just talk about the brilliance of the subject line for this thread for a second? Thank you.

Unless Lucas wanted to implying that Anakin's sperm accidentally ended up in Padme's uterus without either party knowing, I'd guess he wanted to show more thoroughly how they became an item. Hey, I used to hate the mushy stuff in Empire too. ;-)

well voiceovers and scrolling perspectived yellow letters in SPACE were also an option

The three paragraph limit was a problem.

sperm -> uterus w/o either party knowing = a new meaning for "beam her up scotty"

why am i wasting my ideas on ile when there are trek slash sites that would LAP THIS STUFF UP!!

ew

(groan) Mark, I used to think only Californians cornered the market on bad jokes;>

Ooh, Raggett, an actual compliment? Say that slower, so I can actually chisle that into stone;>

Galaxial in-vitro? The new fad....

And I wouldn't have minded that, if the characters' personalities didn't appear so opposite. For a "natural" Jedi, he seemed to be too wishy-washy when it was necessary to make a quick and difficult decision (the decision to go save Obi-Wan was hers, not his, for instance).

I just saw this yesterdizay and was totally baffled by the love story.

(spoilers ahead, for those who care about such things)

Let's see...he announces a love for dictatorships, slaughters a village, and is generally whiny, stalkerish, bad-tempered and petulant. Just what about that was Amidala supposed to find attractive? Or is just some sort of uber-sexy bad boy thing that I just didn't get because I'm odd? Anyone?

Nicole, Sunday, 26 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't think you're odd, Nicole, but Padme seems to encapsulate a certain 'smart women, foolish choices' stance. ;-)

Anakin and Amadala's scenes are some of the most cringeably awful in cinema history. Thank goodness for that white top!

Thank God I wasn't alone in that/i>, then. If I wanted to dissect the "smart women/foolish choices" question, I'd actually watch Oprah....or whoever is the current show du jour.

Sure, but wearing club-wear into battle? How gauche;>

oh god, the love scenes - PUKE! when they were frolicking around in the flowers riding on giant pigs and whatnot yuck I can hardly bear to think about it.

Attack of the Clones is one of the grossest movies I have ever seen.

"For a "natural" Jedi, he seemed to be too wishy-washy"

Anakin is supposed to be like that, it's the whole he has more power than knowledge thing... He has to develop into vader some how you know. :)

Also the development of love between those two is more than 10 years in the making, did you not all see the way she looked at him in episode one (even though he was only eight or so.)

SPOILER BELOW

Keep an eye out for the whole "He will bring balance to the force" thing, first he helps cull off all of those over powered Jedi fools till only two are left (Obi wan, Yoda) then he joins his master Darth Sidious (Palpatine) then after a number of years (bout 50 I think) Luke turns up and he strikes down Obi wan (total check 2:2 even both sides) then when Yoda dies it is out of sink so he throws his wonderful master down a big burning leaving himself and Luke (1:1) after he dies Luke begins the task of rebuilding the light side of the force's influence in the universe... while others work towards the dark side......
