I got me a Dyson DC08 because my old one sucked and almost didn't suck anymore (even though the bag was still almost empty), and boy, does Dyson suck! Very impressive.

There were some crumbs on the coffee table. I remembered seeing a Dustbuster in a closet, so I got it and tried to Dustbust the crumbs, and even though the DB was 'on' and sounded okay and fully charged, it couldn't quite manage to evacuate the CRUMBS from the table.
Is Dustbuster the greatest and most insidious retail product scam ever perpetuated on good, hard working American people? I remember in the '80s every house had one, if not 2 or 3, and they didn't work then, either.

Sounds like the filters need to be cleaned - a messy and unpleasent job! I wonder why they make them with such weedy battery packs?
― snoball, Saturday, 3 November 2007 18:43 (eighteen years ago)
I have this:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000FFM012/
and it's awesome. I can almost vacuum my whole apartment with it.
― El Tomboto, Saturday, 3 November 2007 18:50 (eighteen years ago)
that looks awesome i trust black and decker for some reason i reallly hate my current vacuum and i really need to vacuum my place
― rrrobyn, Saturday, 3 November 2007 19:11 (eighteen years ago)
i have some kind of bagless hoover model. it sounded good (and does, in fact, work better than the 20 year old half-broken eureka that cost me $10 at a flea market that I replaced), but the whole bagless thing is annoying; now I have a filthy container every time I vacuum that I ahve to empty...somewhere. outside in the dumpster? what a pain in the ass
― akm, Saturday, 3 November 2007 19:22 (eighteen years ago)
i had a dirt devil hand vac and that didn't pick up crumbs either.
but the biggest scam is the swiffer...displacing dirt geographically around your floor is not cleaning.
― akm, Saturday, 3 November 2007 19:23 (eighteen years ago)
We don't get the 18V B&D in the UK, only the 12V for some reason. I have a feeling that the Dyson Root6 is more powerful, but it looks like a power drill or a Star Trek prop or something!
― snoball, Saturday, 3 November 2007 19:25 (eighteen years ago)
akm OTM re: bagless. I hate those things.
― Jaq, Saturday, 3 November 2007 19:55 (eighteen years ago)
Bagless isn't too bad as long as it's emptied after every use - which is a bit inconvenient.
― snoball, Saturday, 3 November 2007 20:01 (eighteen years ago)
and as long as you wash out the canister and then spray some Staticguard on it.
― Jaq, Saturday, 3 November 2007 20:03 (eighteen years ago)
has anyone used a broom vac? i am thinking it might be useful for my hardwood floored-apartment life.
― tehresa, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 18:21 (seventeen years ago)
swiffering ain't cuttin it.
Huh?

I bought a Miles Bennett Dyson Vacuum Cleaner but it became self aware and instigated a global thermonuclear war. No way will I ever get that cleaned up.

Someone just bought me a lightweight bagged vacuum with a brush roller underneath (none of this suction-only). I don't think it was more than $100-120 but it works perfectly well and came with an additional bag and an additional belt for the roller, when the current one burns out. Quite happy w it so far.
― Jesus doesn't want me for a thundercloud (Laurel), Tuesday, 17 August 2010 15:10 (fifteen years ago)
Oh hm actually I lied. It's this one, and it's a lot more than that. Pretty lightweight, though -- I can pick it up easily to move between small areas or w/e.

scott that is cool looking. does it work well?
cozen do u really use that vacuum cleaner
Laurel, does the brush roller get a lot of stuff stuck on it? that vacuum looks nice
― janice (surm), Thursday, 19 August 2010 19:43 (fifteen years ago)
if i send you some googly eyes, will you put them on the front and take a picture?
― SYNTAX ERROR (remy bean), Thursday, 19 August 2010 19:47 (fifteen years ago)
um, yes!?!
― janice (surm), Thursday, 19 August 2010 19:47 (fifteen years ago)
I haven't actually checked the brush yet for build-up, but I have long hair and I shed a lot, so I'd bet money there's "stuff" on it.
― Jesus doesn't want me for a thundercloud (Laurel), Thursday, 19 August 2010 19:48 (fifteen years ago)
yeah i have been dealing with that on mine
― janice (surm), Thursday, 19 August 2010 19:49 (fifteen years ago)
You have to clean off/cut off the hair buildup at some point, along with bits of string or whatever gets in there. Otherwise it'll eventually prevent the brush from spinning, and that's when the drive belt burns out. Which smells terrible and is a PITA to replace, AND makes the vacuum not work very well.
― Jesus doesn't want me for a thundercloud (Laurel), Thursday, 19 August 2010 19:51 (fifteen years ago)
so, they do actually sell vacuums that rely solely on suction, and not on a brush? but you don't recommend them?
― janice (surm), Thursday, 19 August 2010 20:00 (fifteen years ago)
Nope.
― Jesus doesn't want me for a thundercloud (Laurel), Thursday, 19 August 2010 20:05 (fifteen years ago)
I mean, yes, and then no.
Even though Sears is on my shitlist for ever and ever because of some bullshit with an AC unit, I still recommend this vacuum. It's pretty awesome, has a lot of attachments, and has this "Intelliclean" feature that tells you when your carpets are truly clean. (Hint: it happens much later than you think it does.)
― Jenny, Thursday, 19 August 2010 20:10 (fifteen years ago)
very cool
― janice (surm), Thursday, 19 August 2010 21:32 (fifteen years ago)
"scott that is cool looking. does it work well?"
yeah, it works great. they sell for about a hundred bucks, which is why i was glad to get a deal cuz i'm cheap and i just wanted something decent for my store, but i didn't want to pay a ton of money. it's pretty much brand new.
― scott seward, Thursday, 19 August 2010 21:52 (fifteen years ago)
I have to do this and i've never done this in my life. Are there good vacuums and bad vacuums or can I just go pick out a cheap vacuum and take it home?
