― far beyond steendriven (some dude), Wednesday, 8 April 2009 17:38 (seventeen years ago)
the economy is ripe for fox but how is this gonna be any better than the apprentice? which is admittedly great but it's a little tired. also i can't really imagine that we're all gonna be like "OMG THIS SHOW IS THEIR LIVELIHOODS THEY CAN'T GET LAID OFF" bcuz lol fox reality show
― the rickey henderson of sbs (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 8 April 2009 17:40 (seventeen years ago)
this whole idea kinda grosses me out to be honest
― Just one thing I was thinking about as I was getting on the copter (J0hn D.), Wednesday, 8 April 2009 17:44 (seventeen years ago)
since I know everybody was wondering what the fuck jd thought about the whole deal
― Just one thing I was thinking about as I was getting on the copter (J0hn D.), Wednesday, 8 April 2009 17:45 (seventeen years ago)
it sounds pretty shitty imo, in a couple of ways
― fucken cumlord (omar little), Wednesday, 8 April 2009 17:45 (seventeen years ago)
it's another one of those, "did somebody actually think this was a good idea?" things along the lines of "let's let the bigots decide which family they want to live in their subdivision" one that was on ABC a few years ago
― fucken cumlord (omar little), Wednesday, 8 April 2009 17:46 (seventeen years ago)
haha omar what was that show called!?
― far beyond steendriven (some dude), Wednesday, 8 April 2009 17:46 (seventeen years ago)
'welcome to the neighborhood', i think?
― fucken cumlord (omar little), Wednesday, 8 April 2009 17:48 (seventeen years ago)
damn reality show producers arent even trying anymore
― rip dom passantino 3/5/09 never forget (max), Wednesday, 8 April 2009 17:49 (seventeen years ago)
john d, for some reason, your posts have really been bringing the lols to me whenever i read them.
that said, i also find the idea of this really disgusting.
― the table is the table, Wednesday, 8 April 2009 17:50 (seventeen years ago)
wow this is even more awful than i generally expect from reality tv
― I BLAME JESUS (jjjusten), Wednesday, 8 April 2009 17:51 (seventeen years ago)
somewhere a fox exec is shaking in his boots seeing that a bunch of nerds on influential internet board ilx are displeased i am sure tho
― I BLAME JESUS (jjjusten), Wednesday, 8 April 2009 17:52 (seventeen years ago)
it's disgusting in theory but in no way will this impact the lives of real, sane people
i mean, correct me if i'm wrong, but would it not be illegal for a business to fire someone because their colleagues voted for them to be fired after they failed at a challenge after the business agreed to be on a television show?
― the rickey henderson of sbs (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 8 April 2009 17:53 (seventeen years ago)
working in reality tv too long either sickens you enough to bail on it or causes you to completely lose your moral compass imo
― fucken cumlord (omar little), Wednesday, 8 April 2009 17:53 (seventeen years ago)
well it might not be a series of "challenges" as much as a depiction of real companies
― fucken cumlord (omar little), Wednesday, 8 April 2009 17:54 (seventeen years ago)
i still can't imagine how, if any 'real' businesses were involved, this wouldnt result in a lawsuit
― the rickey henderson of sbs (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 8 April 2009 17:56 (seventeen years ago)
I don't think it matters how "real" this is, this is a completely indefensible thing to toss out there when real life people are out there suffering from this sort of thing. We really are like two steps away from Running Man type ish, aren't we?
― display names have been changed to protect the innocent (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 8 April 2009 17:58 (seventeen years ago)
this is why there are documents that participants sign upfront saying "no lawsuits" etc etc. i'm sure the person who gets laid off will get a couple grand for participating and hey maybe even a nice little coda postscript like, "two months later jane found another job at an accounting firm in Albany."
― fucken cumlord (omar little), Wednesday, 8 April 2009 17:58 (seventeen years ago)
reality production companies are extremely careful about making sure they cannot be held liable for anything that might happen to the people they humiliate. if they didn't, you would see so many lawsuits hurled at them because enough people who have been on them are pissed enough to sue, but their hands are tied.

my prediction: better than Married by America, worse than Man vs. Beast
― I'm the head soul brother in the US. Where to now? (bernard snowy), Wednesday, 8 April 2009 18:00 (seventeen years ago)
fuckin everything is worse than man vs beast, who lost their dignity on that show besides that giraffe
― A B C, Wednesday, 8 April 2009 18:16 (seventeen years ago)
the company making this show is Endemol, which also does Extreme Makeover Home Edition. it would be pretty awesome, they could easily do a crossover: a dude loses his job on this show and the ensuing struggles lead to an uplifting finish on the other.
