used 70s/80s junk chair composed of fake diarrhea colored vinyl cushions and deceptively sturdy canvas backing material that broke after single body slam.

The cheapest chair was sitting on a log. It was not the most comfortable, though.

Used ($25) Steelcase "Rally" model. Have had it for years...apparently indestructible. It's not as comfy as it used to be, but I've gotten more for my money out of it than almost anything else I've ever bought.

i really need a new chair for my desk. i spend a big chunk of my day sat at my pc desk at home so im willing to throw a few hundred to get the perfect chair that doesn't wreck my spine. im thinking something that can function as both an upright chair but that can also flatten out for when i want to leanback and watch tv or play games. i guess id need a new desk too so the foot rest bit would fit underneath.
something like <a href=http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/ny/seating-misc/gravity-chair-by-stokke-015123>this</a> but more for sitting at a desk, maybe with a handle that turns into a lean-back comfy chair. does anyone have anything like this, or any recommendations?

woops, that link should be http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/ny/seating-misc/gravity-chair-by-stokke-015123
It's odd you should ask this question cos I need a new one and have just been looking around for it, thus far without resolution

if i find a good one i'll link to it here. i'll probably end up plumping for something unsatisfactory from ikea, like this one i have at the moment: http://www.yvestown.com/images/blog/skruvsta01.jpg

(which is comfier than a straight-up office chair, but i have a tendency to stick my feet on it, knees up, which can't be doing my back any good)

oh Ikea! I hadn't even thought of them!

NI, I see you are on much the same quest as me, but your 'few hundred' is more than I was hoping to spend!

not meaning to derail this, but NI seems to be someone with an interest in these matters and I want to grab his / her expertise: I also want a computer keyboard that will be lighter on my fingers. Life has made them hurt.
I know an iMac kbd is ideal, but that's kind of different from what my Dell needs. Can you get a nice light, shallow, minimum-effort kbd for a PC?

'recliner' was the word i was looking for! something like this:http://www.thefurniture.com/store/proddetail.asp?prod=QL-001-CHAIR but better-looking - not keen on those handles - and without all the unecessary massage bits.
can't help with keyboards, sorry. maybe go in maplin or local pc store and test a few out? or even try out this piece of madness: http://www.oneinhundred.com/Wholesale-China/various-Silicone/Lightweight-silicone-keyboard--162112.htm
