The art is really ugly but it has Henry Winkler, Jason Bateman, Will Arnett & Tom Kenny doing voices. Do voiceovers by rad people = funny? Maybe. Mitchell Hurwitz is doing it.

That is my PSA.

i hate adult cartoons so much

s1ocki, Wednesday, 15 April 2009 16:40 (seventeen years ago)

(simpsons being the obvious exception)

s1ocki, Wednesday, 15 April 2009 16:40 (seventeen years ago)

what about dr. katz

Vaclav Havel mostly. (Matt P), Wednesday, 15 April 2009 16:55 (seventeen years ago)

Vaclav Havel mostly. (Matt P), Wednesday, 15 April 2009 16:55 (seventeen years ago)

Ømår Littel (Jordan), Wednesday, 15 April 2009 16:56 (seventeen years ago)

i know i've harped on this in like 5 threads, but I really hate this post-Family Guy/Adult Swim trend of super-cheap animation that completely sucks any possible warmth or human element from a cartoon show, rendering it completely unenjoyable for me. It's like a college kid made a flash animation and now it's on TV

Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 15 April 2009 16:58 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, s1ock is just being a hater, there have been plenty of good adult cartoons, but I doubt anyone will make them anymore because it's so much more affordable for a network to shit out Life According To Tim which is like basically still drawings where the mouth moves like Clutch Cargo

Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 15 April 2009 16:59 (seventeen years ago)

Why would you shell out the money for a team of 100 Korean animators to spend two months making The Simpsons/King Of The Hill/Futurama/The Critic/Ren And Stimpy/Spongebob Squarepants, when you can have 23-year-old kids move shit around with a mouse for 20 minutes. Animation on TV is pretty much over.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 15 April 2009 17:02 (seventeen years ago)

look at that promo shot. they didn't even draw a fucking background. why would i give this show half a second of my time? there's web comics which look more labored over

Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 15 April 2009 17:04 (seventeen years ago)

RIP animation on tv

s1ocki, Wednesday, 15 April 2009 17:04 (seventeen years ago)

dude i just don't like this stuff - im not trying to be a hater, i just find it hard to watch and kind of depressing. maybe there are exquisitely drawn adult cartoon tv shows i've never seen.

s1ocki, Wednesday, 15 April 2009 17:05 (seventeen years ago)

i listed six of them. Do you hate all of them?

Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 15 April 2009 17:08 (seventeen years ago)

whiney totally otm. old school or no school... still willing to check this out though, being mitch hurwitz and all. xp

sonderangerbot, Wednesday, 15 April 2009 17:10 (seventeen years ago)

i even got a little love for The PJ's iirc

Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 15 April 2009 17:11 (seventeen years ago)

actually i like king of the hill

ren & stimpy i prefer to think of as just really awesome kids' cartoons.

s1ocki, Wednesday, 15 April 2009 17:11 (seventeen years ago)

what are these labored-over webcartoons you speak of...?

in fairness the worst shit i've seen on adult swim isn't as unfunny as homestar runner. not that that means anything really!

"in fairness the worst shit i've seen on adult swim isn't as unfunny as homestar runner."
OK now them's fightin words...

Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 15 April 2009 17:16 (seventeen years ago)

That Fox Trot guy really missed his golden moment.

Where's that shitty online comic Dom used to post where the characters stood in front of "live" backgrounds that had been blurred in photoshop. That kind of shit.

I think there's probably more effort, warmth, thought and man-hours that go into in a single Perry Bible Fellowship strip than an entire episode of "Squidbillies"

Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 15 April 2009 17:25 (seventeen years ago)

wasn't the flintstones an "adult cartoon"

elmo argonaut, Wednesday, 15 April 2009 17:26 (seventeen years ago)

in defense of mediocre TV cartoons, I defy anyone to list superior amateur web efforts.
(PBF and StrongBad and others are disqualified since the creators worked pro/semi-pro using the same skills prior to webstuff)

Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 15 April 2009 17:32 (seventeen years ago)

superjail has good animation

cool app (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Wednesday, 15 April 2009 17:34 (seventeen years ago)

the fucking lars ulrich napster cartoon from 10 years ago is better than half the shows on adult swim

Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 15 April 2009 17:49 (seventeen years ago)

Are you claiming it's better than that apocalyptica show or whatever heavy-metal nordic cartoon that was on? I'll grant you it's probably better than 12oz mouse.

Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 15 April 2009 18:03 (seventeen years ago)

I am just hoping this will have mad lols bcz it is freaking Mitchell Hurwitz.

fillibustar superstar! (Abbott), Wednesday, 15 April 2009 18:06 (seventeen years ago)

so did this have mad lols

just sayin, Monday, 20 April 2009 16:12 (seventeen years ago)

When I heard that King of the Hill was being replaced, I was pretty happy because it had become a very dull break in an otherwise entertaining Sunday animation schedule. I was extra excited because of the Arrested Development link.

Sad to say, I watched Shut Up, Sit Down last night and now I wish King of the Hill were back. It was completely unfunny and fairly painful to watch. This show is terrible and is bound to go down in flames.

OTOH, Family Guy brought the major LOLs with a great musical number about legalizing pot.

Moodles, Monday, 20 April 2009 17:36 (seventeen years ago)

And yes, the animation on Shut Up, Sit Down is shockingly amaturish and unpleasant to look at.

Moodles, Monday, 20 April 2009 17:37 (seventeen years ago)

this was not good

Ømår Littel (Jordan), Monday, 20 April 2009 17:41 (seventeen years ago)

I just hope they cancel it quickly. Being sandwiched between Simpsons and Family Guy, I'm bound to watch this just out of laziness, and I'm sure I'll regret it every time.

Moodles, Monday, 20 April 2009 17:44 (seventeen years ago)

It was pretty awful, but I'll give it a few weeks. AD took a while to find its feet. With any luck they will fire the writer alums of 2 and a half men.

Prince of Persia (Ed), Monday, 20 April 2009 18:47 (seventeen years ago)

wow, shocking news that this is a huge piece of shit.

otmomom (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 20 April 2009 19:06 (seventeen years ago)

s1ocki, Monday, 20 April 2009 19:11 (seventeen years ago)

It was not so great, but I'll at least give it a few weeks - a lot of sitcoms take time to find their footing.

Nhex, Monday, 20 April 2009 19:31 (seventeen years ago)

three weeks pass...

Fox, meanwhile, opted to yank the remaining episode of "Sit Down, Shut Up" after the show posted a dismal 0.7 rating/3 share among adults 18-49.

But it's believed the show may have also been pulled this Sunday due to some content concerns -- particularly since "Sit Down" airs at 7 p.m. Fox will run a repeat "King of the Hill" in that slot.

Given "Sit Down's" perf, the animated half-hour is not expected to return.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

Whiney G. Weingarten, Tuesday, 12 May 2009 22:21 (sixteen years ago)

this was so so awful

man, i love collages (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 12 May 2009 22:36 (sixteen years ago)

Whiney G. Weingarten, Tuesday, 12 May 2009 22:36 (sixteen years ago)

after the first episode i couldn't even see where they were going to derive even one funny joke so i gave up -- really one of the worst 30 mins of tv i've seen in my life

i feel bad for bateman and arnett and everyone else who got caught up in this out of hurwitz loyalty

man, i love collages (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 12 May 2009 22:38 (sixteen years ago)

s1ocki, Wednesday, 13 May 2009 00:07 (sixteen years ago)
