I'm running into real trouble with errors on my file registry, it's causing errors any time i try to install anything from CD at this stage. Can anyone recommend a free cleanup/fix application that I can trust?

There's not really any thing called a file registry, the error probably refers to a problem with a file OR the registry.

i'll try anything- i'm getting this error upon installation - 0x80040707 and it's easy to bring up 100 sites telling me what the problem is but nothing is working.

What are you installing?
― Jarlrmai, Friday, 17 April 2009 19:42 (seventeen years ago)
any one of four different incarnations of championship manager;
question- in my file registry editor- user shell folders- the default path is 'value not set'- is this a likely problem?

the more i get into it, the more installshield seems to be suggested as the problem
― Old Big 'OOS (AKA the Cupwinner) (darraghmac), Friday, 17 April 2009 19:55 (seventeen years ago)
yeah, sounds like installer issues,
Can you install anything else from installshield installers?

sorry, crashed out there for a while- going on two days w/out sleep, which probably means tinkering with the innards of the PC isn't the brightest idea.
anyway, can't install windows live! another 0x08004004 error
i'll do a backup of everything i have and see what my options are. tesco doing a nifty little acer half price tomorrow, might be just the excuse i need.

sounds like your windows installer is fucked.
― Jarlrmai, Saturday, 18 April 2009 12:31 (seventeen years ago)
ok, d'led a fix from microsoft- appears that the missing drive was a result of file registry cleaner over-enthusiasm, which nevertheless cured the original problem. all better now.
thanks for listening!
