I've started doing this again recently. Please help.

Graham, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Why would you want help? This is a sensible thing to do.

Nicole, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

stop it NOW or Pikachu will bite you...

katie, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

on no! PIKACHU! oh NO!!

Graham, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

yes, I used to do this. Stop it, it is silly = universal truth.

jel --, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Carry on doing it. Also, start brushing your hand along ever railing you pass. And counting them.

N., Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

surely it is just skipping for ppl who are afraid to confront their inner skipping needs?

mark s, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

If it frees your spirit do it. "I never stepped on a crack becasue I thought I'd hurt my mother." Jeff Buckley "I dream of suckling up to mother again." William F. Buckley

mike hanle y, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sure, it sounds silly UNTIL YOUR MOTHER'S BACK BREAKS! What will you do then, smuggos?

Nicole, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Try wearing really massive clown shoes then it will be impossible. Or walking in places that have very teeny paving stones.

Emma, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I've never seen Mark S skip.

Graham, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i find it FRIGHTENINGLY EASY to imagine mark s skipping though!

katie, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I do this. But then I also won't walk over three drains together. I started a thread about the drains thing a while back, but I couldn't find it.

Anna, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

There are 7.2 words too many in that sentence Ktee.

Graham, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I always thought that 3 Drains was lucky, and that it was 2 drains that should be avioded. Finally, I understand life.

jel --, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No noooooo, three drains is bad luck, two is good luck, but the bad luck from three drains can be cancelled out by walking over one.

Your life will change Jel.

Anna, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Anna, where do open drains comeinto this? I have to cross one on a wooden bridge on my way to the beach and I don't want to start having to wade through it for good luck.

chris, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It's more a manhole cover thing, and one doesn't do anything on it's own anyway.

It's a stupid superstition anyway *blush, blush etc*

Anna, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Also it must be a (relatively) recent one as most superstitions are about things that have existed for ages e.g. magpies, ladders, stuff... whereas drain covers have only been around for about 30 years (I am using the Dave Q approach to the British sewage system as I have no idea how long we have had proper drains for).

Emma, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"I am not a mentalist"

Graham, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't understand how it's hooked me in. And how I end up talking about this too. It's not a big part of my life, I know it's bollocks.

Anna, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No evil thoughts about my mother's back breaking! It saddens me. *cries*

I think at one point I avoided cracks assiduously, but that seems to have withered and died...

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

HAW HAW "man-hole" HAW HAW!

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I still do the cracks thing. Although recently I've tried stepping on cracks on purpose just to prove to myself I don't have a problem.

Vinnie, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

He's such a thoughtful boy. :)

Graham's mum, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm more worried about yr shift keys wearing out

Ron, Saturday, 8 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Nathan Barley used to try and avoid stepping on cracks, then gave it up as a superstitious pile of twaddle. I got him the next time he stepped on a crack. Foolish boy.

He tells me that he also races cars to predetermined points such as lampposts about 10 feet ahead of him. Madness.

The Devil, Sunday, 9 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The only solution is to travel everywhere by rickshaw. Preferably whilst drinking Gin and Tonic.

Matt, Sunday, 9 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I used to do this, but then I graduated to graduated to avoiding driveways and crossing when cars were driving in vicinity (they might swerve and kill me!)

Tim, Sunday, 9 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The old saying is..."Don't step on any crack, or you'll break your mother's back!" :( No wonder we avoid them!

Gale, Sunday, 9 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

five years pass...
