Fancy a Ronan-in-London pint?

As other thread says Ronan's coming to London for the summer. He's going to be in my office for a bit at the start, so for ease of him being able to find pubs/ you lot without the hell of A-Zs and walking up to strangers in pubs saying 'I love everything?' Wednesday next week (June 5th) would be a good night. Any takers?

(I'm on holiday for the two weeks after that.)

Anna, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Wednesday or later please, I've got to move home from university that week.

Graham, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

New Soho please answers

Anna, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Soho = The Glasshouse Stores then, right? i may or may not be around, but if i am, count me in!

katie, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I think it would be character building to have to go up to groups of strangers in pubs saying 'are you internet mentalists?'. However at the same time I will probably want a drink so this is probably a good idea.

Emma, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Weren't we vaguely planning on having a bash on the Friday for the 1st anniversary of ILE? No reason this shouldn't be a couple of days earlier tho, specially if it means extra feel the vibe man action.

RickyT, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I can't make the 6th June! But all other dates are good.

jel --, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Not the Glasshouse Stores again!!

yeah ok

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I kind of have to do Wednesday ...

Soho - pub-wise there's The John Snow or The Sun and Thirteen Cantons. The John Snow might even be (whisper it) a Sam Smiths pub, although I'm not sure.

Anna, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It is.

N., Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The John Snow is a bit too small for us lot.

RickyT, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

What about a

ba r?

--ducks--

Ed, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Wednesday 5th is a v good idea.

DG, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Them's fiteing words young Ed.

RickyT, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The Sun & 13 is quite bar like. For a pub. I quite like it.

Emma, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I get back on the sixth, and can't do that night *sob*

chris, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i walked arround saying ile 'til i realized t here was alook among the men. I could point them out.

anthony, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Anna, I can't do the Wednesday :( Ronan, hope you have a great trip and an even better time in London.

Mark C, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

At time of writing, I'm on for any of those nights. I do think we should have some kind of celebration of the first anniversary, even though I've only been here a couple of months. And it should be on Friday 7th, as I have a do the next day as it's my birthday (landmark 43rd).

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I can do the Wednesday and would love to. Plus, I'm on earlies so I can get to the pub early and be extra pissed.

Jonnie, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You don't know me. Can I come anyway?

dan, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I've known Dan for years (though we've yet to actually meet). Stay well clear. Only kidding marra ;-)

stevo, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Right, I'm not coming back till Thursday, so pwease pwease pwease can we make it Fwiday?

Graham, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Clubbing With Ronan(SPECIAL LONDON EPISODES!)

Ronan, i think you should make clubbing with ronan a part of your site, so people know what the will get from the show

Chupa-Cabras, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Next Wednesday is grebt for me - must get back into the pub cycle after all num num. Stores or Cantons though remember the stores akways has the advantage that we can take over an entire floor.

Pete, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I shall be back in London then also?

B, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

next wednesday is very definitely great for me - i am going to have to spend all weekend preparing for a seminar i have to give on wednesday which means i have to read hundreds of pages of horribly hard sums boo hiss but then i will be free!! and needing a pint or seven.

toby, Wednesday, 29 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I also vote for Wednesday. And yes, the John Snow would def be too small unless we got there early and took over the first floor but its a RISKY JOB. Glasshouse is just as grebt anyway.

Sarah, Wednesday, 29 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Wednesday is actually the only day I can make it. But don't let that stop you.

Anna, Wednesday, 29 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

wed = best 4 me (does anyone know if ronan can do it?)

mark s, Wednesday, 29 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

He said yes via e-mail yesterday, but I can't get hold of him now to re-confirm. The idea was that at least if he meets the rest of you whilst he's working over here then I'll be able to point out what you all look like and save embarrassment.

Anna, Wednesday, 29 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

we look like interweb mentalists, except dr c, who looks like the big blue furry one in monsters inc

mark s, Wednesday, 29 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

and Mark S who looks like Pikachu

RickyT, Wednesday, 29 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I should look like a mummy come Wednesday following hill descent.

Jonnie, Wednesday, 29 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

eg rolled flat and covered in a thin film of cheese

mark s, Wednesday, 29 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

GRRR.

Whose up for doing something Wednesday and Friday (or Saturday?)

Graham, Wednesday, 29 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No then. I'm crying now.

Graham, Wednesday, 29 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Anna I mailed you.

I'm in my brothers house being anti social. My mailbox should be working again now, it really should.

Flying visit, hope you're all ok, I'll see you next week I imagine. For our first night in London we went to a table quiz in the local and won a crate of Carlsberg export. The landlord looks like Jim Royle. Still sorting out accomodation and stuff but it'll all be good I'm sure.

Ronan, Thursday, 30 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No then. I'm crying now.

"Coarse little monster, why don't you cry?"

Dan Perry, Thursday, 30 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Revival to try to establish where and when. Glasshouse Stores, is it? Is that on Brewer Street? And what kind of time? I only work off Tottenham Court Road and finish at 5, so I can get there soon after that, but if nobody else is getting there till 7 I may as well do some shopping and eat or something first.

Martin Skidmore, Sunday, 2 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Looking forward to this. I was losing my head at Harry Choo Choo Romero at Homelands yesterday and it flashed through my mind.

Ronan, Sunday, 2 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Glasshouse Stores is on Brewer St, south side, not far from the junction with Lexington St. Be careful though, it has the habit of becoming invisible.

Tim, Monday, 3 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

a photographic map of Brewer Street, south side

michael, Monday, 3 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

well having had a quick look at streetmap, i could be there for 6ish, as it's only about a 10 minute walk from my work. YAY bouze!!

CarsmileSteve, Monday, 3 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Is the afterparty going tobe at Hustler Video?

Dan Perry, Monday, 3 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm sure Ptee has an Adult Entertainment crawl all worked out.

Graham, Monday, 3 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Is the shop next to the Glasshouse Stores run by Ned Flanders? Or at least someone like Ned, please? I think I will also plan to arrive around 6pm. I'm afraid I can't remember if I've met Steve or not. Were you at Anthony's Wednesday meet a couple of weeks ago? Sorry - I met about fifteen people for the first time then, and didn't register everyone properly.

Martin Skidmore, Monday, 3 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

1) Yes it's around there Martin 2) Yes you've met Carsmile Steve I think 3) I'll be there at 6 ish too barring hozzy disasters earlier in the day. 4) Whoever failed to call this thread FITZY A PINT? was in gross dereliction of duty

Tim, Monday, 3 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You have met both steve and tim martin. Tim is the sexy boy on sunday, Steve is the indie boy with the messengar bag.

anthony, Monday, 3 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Some confusion here, obv.

Tim, Monday, 3 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Bizarrely, I might actually be there realtively early despite my earlir dire prognostications about turning up ten minutes before closing time. Everythings gone well today and I'm pretty much left watching the clock unti 1730.

RickyT, Wednesday, 5 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I also seem to have been in the pub for the past week...

oh yeah, there's a reason for that isn't there, I HAVE!!

must stay in at some point, liver becoming ronan-esque... also told meg "i might not stay out 'til 11 tonite", can someone remind me about this at closing time please...

CarsmileSteve, Wednesday, 5 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I enjoyed myself, I think I'll have to get back in the habit of posting more, I feel like I've been missing out.

DG, Wednesday, 5 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i) nick dastoor is a self-proclaimed bedroom genius hahahahaha

ii) next time i will bring tool cds with me. then you will all see their genius. oh yes.

toby, Wednesday, 5 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

B-b-but Nick Dastoor doesn't have a bedroom. He sleeps on a park bench.

Pete, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Urgh I must confess I'm feeling pretty swayzee today.

Ronan, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Must remember that home is the place of BED, not the place to stay up and listen to The Fall until Big Brother (AT 2AM dammit) comes on.

Had fun although disbelieve Dastoors self-proclaimed bedroom genius. Thank you all for a lovely time. Need to sleep now. Urg.

Sarah, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am feeling shockingly fine. I suspect that people were tricking me by giving me orange juice without the vodka in it as I have had no fast food cravings at all and didn't last night either. Pete's new theory (sorry, lie) that orange juice stops you from sleeping was proved to have an element of truth, although I suspect it might have more to do with the fact that he played LOUD MUSIC than the fact that I was buzzing on vitamin C.

Emma, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i am very glad we did not go to the spanish bar afterwards

gareth, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

stupid stupid london underground.

Thanks for keeping me there, tho I promised myself (several times over the course of the night) that it would be "just one more half". i can't decide if I'm relieved or scared that i can talk with other people about such nerdy things as were "discussed" last night.

Alan T, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

So am I. I must have been absolutely wrecked cos I (stupidly) decided to take the bus to Notting Hill and get the tube from there, despite the bus stop being a mere 2 minutes walk from Oxford Circus. This lead to my freaking out Magnus at NHG when I got on the as he got off. I then proceeded to miss my stop despite being awake and as a result had to walk back to Olympia Heights in the pissing rain from White City.

RickyT, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

When is the next FAP?

jel --, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

had a lovely time last night. i liked everyone except YOU over there. heheh anyway hope to see you again soon (graham gimme a call now will ya!). gawd what is UP with these damn qwerty qwertyboards... blergh

nath, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

:P

mark s, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Dear god if they do not unchain me from my desk soon to go for lunch I think I will die. Nice to meet you too sorry not for long though, it was vvv packed!

Sarah, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

nathalie was there?

I shoulda gone, but catching up with old friends was important.

jel --, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Pete's new theory (sorry, lie) that orange juice stops you from sleeping

I think this may be TRUE. I couldn't get to sleep till about 4am last night and I was drinking vodka and orange juice too.

I meant 'bedroom genius' in the Aphex Twin sense, and even then I was joking, as the above all know very well.

N., Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Well after I yelled at Pete to turn the fucking music off I slept the deep untroubled sleep I normally have.

Emma, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

nathalie was there?
see my post that nevah was (cf. cryptic Jeff upthread). yeah qwertys suck after you've got used to the wonder that is azerty :)

Jeff W, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ow.

I am working from home today.

Nathan Barley, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Not only am I stupendously hungover I have to have my PHOTO TAKEN. Arrgh. Much enjoyed it - turnout of 20 people is a record I think. Nice to meet Ronan and Nath, see you both soon I hope. THANKS ANNA for organising it all!

Tom, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh poo - sorry Ronan I forgot all about it.

Jonnie, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Not to worry, I'm sure I'll see you over the next few months.

Ronan, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh yeah the dreaded Tom photo. So what the people all want to know is: have you shaved the beard off? Or does Tramp Chic live to fight another day (well, not so much fight as stagger around flailing spilling Special Brew and shouting incoherently)?

Emma, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

my beard is older than anna rose!!

mark s, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

There was no way I was letting anything sharp near my face the state I was in this morning. Also they told me I didn't have to have a photo done after all then announced I did when I got in. Grr. Anyway yes tramp chic lives for another day.

Tom, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

was nathan b. there last night? or did i misunderstand?

mark s, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Nathan = Dave (not Q)

Tom, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sorry I missed you, Ronan and Nathalie, would be cool to meet you both. Sigh. And I still haven't met Anna or, well, most of you, really. (Be honoured that I want to meet you despite my usual phobia of people not too insecure to enjoy clubbing. Oh, my protective cocoon of Smiths lyrics...)

Plus I am missing both the mighty OXES and the mighty mighty HRVATSKI tonight thanks to being unable to get to London, and I can't see any of their other UK dates (was attempting to work out whether transport was possible to see Oxes in Bristol but then they cancelled that date), and I have been ill, and I have an inexplicable rash that makes it look like I have the plague. Or fleas. I hope it is neither, although the former would have some good points. Plus the department over there *waves hands* clearly want me to write a database with psychic powers. Moan rant moan. (ENOTENOUGHCAFFEINE)

R, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Somebody should post photos...

Nicole, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

http://funfolly.com/g/mascots/cp176mud.gif

N., Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

If I pay somebody, will they go and kick N.? You wouldn't even have to kick him in the balls, the shins would be fine.

Nicole, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

www.exclaim.ca/photos/articlephoto-747d.jpg

N, last night.

RickyT, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

fuxor

RickyT, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I would pay, I don't know, maybe five pounds? Is that fair?

Nicole, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

RickyT meant to say this:

http://www.exclaim.ca/photos/articlephoto-747d.jpg

N. WILL EAT YOUR SOUL!!!!

Dan Perry, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't think N. eats, except maybe kibble like a gerbil.

Nicole, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

he must eat, otherwise how could he grow such a luxuriant beard?

RickyT, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't imagine souls are very filling.

Emma, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Doesn't anyone want to be the Boba Fett of shin kicking?

Nicole, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

If you soul-eater's are hungry, here's one being sold (soul-ed DO YOU SEE) on EBAY.

Alan Trewartha, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

What a minger! I wouldn't want her soul.

Emma, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Apparently she was such a minger that eBay took her auction away. *sigh*

Dan Perry, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Looks like you'll have to make do with the autographed photo of Barry Cryer. Current bid: £1.50.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

To Nicole -- love to help, but my leg isn't long enough to stretch across continents to do the job properly.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Given that some of us (I may only mean me) only said about two words to Ronan and none at all to some people and that there were over twenty people there, I think there should be more FAPs - the frequency should be increased significantly until the average attendance drops under, say, 8.

Martin Skidmore, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

There's a certain charm in there being a big noisey atmosphere though. It is impossible to get to speak to everyone though yes. I was paranoid about getting smashed drunk because I hadn't eaten since lunch, hence me stuffing those bags of crisps into myself.

Ronan, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

you luv ronan more then me :(

anthony, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah JEL I was there. But since I was too tired, I s'pose I came across as as this misplaced Japanese tourist who can merely nod nod nod her head in (feigned) agreement. heh Sigh. I am going back to work and I still feel tired as feh. Then again maybe I can catch up on sleep @ work?

cuba libre (nathalie), Friday, 7 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Blah, can´t get at sign to work on Spanish keyboard. I made my flight and sat on it with a hangover, but now I am in Barcelona. Lovely to see you all again and I´m glad loads of people turned up because around midday I had total paranoia and started e-mailing people begging them to come.

(Rebecca I can do Smiths lyrics and clubbing - I´m multi-talented like that (i.e. multi-talented in no useful way whatsoever))2
