Or England, or Jacqui Smith, depending on which part of the report you read. No, really...

I wonder where exactly he intends to sue Britain? In the Hague international court? I thought US conservatives were against it, and USA has never joined it anyway, so I'm not sure if an US citizen can even appeal to it. Plus it would be pretty hard to convince the judges that entering Britain is a basic human right.

Leaving Britain on the other hand?

In any case, we seem to be safe - he only wants to sue the "Home Secretary of England". Is there such a post?

He also angered the parents of children with autism by saying most cases were "a brat who hasn't been told to cut the act out", the Associated Press reported.

^^^^what a nice intelligent man, we should let him in.

No seriously, we shouldn't be censoring educated medical opinion.

Michael Savage Fired!!! Hallylouyah!

I like the way in the quote he was outraged at being compared to Russian skinheads and members of Hamas, but the Grand Wizard and some neo-Nazi not so much.

Why (oh why oh why) did they tell us who was on the list? Isn't it the case (my learned friends) that if you're on the barred list in other countries you generally don't find out until you try to get a visa or when you actually arrive and your name comes up on the computer? I can't see the point of publishing this list at all except that it gives Michael Savage (who I had never heard of until yesterday) free publicity.

Also, if any nutjob now threatens "to sue Britain" will they get a prominent news item on the Beeb?

Ned Trifle II, Wednesday, 6 May 2009 09:00 (fifteen years ago) link

Not that I'm calling him a nutjob obviously.

My lawyer advises.

British libel/slander/defamation law is a beast. Providing the dude can narrow it down from 'suing Britain' to suing a person or newspaper or distributor or whatever, he can sue in the UK courts. Anybody can, really, as long as they can prove the defamatory comments are widespread enough in the UK. THey don't have to be a UK resident.

Kind of similar to this story.

who he described as the "lunatic ... Home Secretary of England"

isn't that slander?

also, nice of the bbc to link to this pricks web site.

Wouldn't parliamentary privilege protect her from being sued? (shouldn't be giving it this much thought, obv)

dowd, Wednesday, 6 May 2009 10:16 (fifteen years ago) link

Only applies to things said in the chamber I think.

Ned Trifle II, Wednesday, 6 May 2009 11:25 (fifteen years ago) link

it's not parliamentary privilege, but official government statements are privileged too.

Savage's immediate reaction upon hearing the news was typically wry.

"Darn! And I was just planning a trip to England for their superior dental work and cuisine," he recalled thinking.

Oh, the hilarity.

dude must read ILX

some one should tell him about dishwashing, tipping and racist bottle openers.

Prince of Persia (Ed), Wednesday, 6 May 2009 12:27 (fifteen years ago) link

he's a bit sensitive about the dental work:

Four months later, on July 7, Savage was fired from his MSNBC television show after remarks made in response to a caller, later identified as prank caller Bob Foster, who insulted Savage's teeth. Savage then asked if Foster was a "sodomite"

If the UK's cuisine is so bad, what's Gordon Ramsay doing over there?

Mark G, Wednesday, 6 May 2009 12:29 (fifteen years ago) link

savaage is a publicity ho. he thrives on dumb media "controversy" so banning him & starting a pissing contest is counter-productive. OTOH I wouldn't let this jerk in my house, either.

m coleman, Wednesday, 6 May 2009 12:30 (fifteen years ago) link

He's certainly milking this for all it's worth - his website seems to be almost all about it. That and strange adverts about various healthcare products.

Ned Trifle II, Wednesday, 6 May 2009 12:34 (fifteen years ago) link

I met him, his wife and their son once w/regard to their energy drink Rockstar and they were creepy as all heck.
