NYC Ned-Fest?

So, what's happening with THIS little get-together?

Ally (once the social coordinator) doesn't seem to be interested in dealing with the bullshit that comes with organizing a would-be cluster-fuck such as this. Ally, is this true? Is this going to happen? What's going on?

David Raposa, Wednesday, 1 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

do it in september, then i can come and follow Ned in being one of the select few who'll have done london town and nyc ilms

gareth, Wednesday, 1 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I have no interest in organising anything, I'm tired of being nice to people who apparently have no consideration for the fact that NED, ie the person who is trying to organise and is the VISITOR, is going to be in Central Manhattan and really shouldn't be expected to trek all the way out to an outer borough after attending a wedding. I'm not coming anyhow, I'm hanging out with Ramon and I don't see the point in attending just so me and him can be irritated with everyone. Me and Ned are getting together some other point.

But if people want recommendations, hey, try PD O'Hurley's, it's a real nice joint. On 72nd and Amsterdam.

Ally, Wednesday, 1 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ally - maybe Ned wants to come to an outer borough instead of soul-sucking midtown? Eh? And BTW: 42 + 30 = 72nd. So, 42 - 30 = 14th. So Barmacy works just as well nyerrr.

"[You] and Ramon getting irritated at everyone" = disher can't take it? :o

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 1 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Honey. I've already spoken to Ned, we talk all the time. He has very minimal interest in going to an outer borough. It's inconvenient for him and rather rude for everyone to insist on it when the entire REASON for the get together is that a complete out-of-towner is making a short stop over.

Have fun in Brooklyn, though.

Ally, Wednesday, 1 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

hey hey. i didn't mean to sound snarky. Ally since you'll not be en attendance i don't see what the hoo-ha is. how about Ned chooses from among all suggestions made (including the rooftop picnic that i am still hot for) on that other thread?

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 2 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

There is no hoo-ha now, me and Ned have already discussed it and worked something out. This thread has merely consisted of me pointing out that I refuse to be social coordinator for self-centered prickheads who refuse to see things more than one way. Doing it the way I'm doing it now A) reduces my external irritation B) gets a nice small get together C) gets me to a place near my house so I can be a self-centered prickhead - but a self-centered prickhead ensuring everyone a good deal on drinks. It's fantastic, I'm glad this all didn't work out.

Ally, Thursday, 2 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Without wanting to increase the tension much more ;-) -- Ally is right, for both logistical and other reasons (keep in mind I'll be fighting jet lag, while there are changing plans on my end as well involving the wedding I'm attending) I'd rather be near to where my hotel is, and she and I are planning a little get-together fun thing that takes that into account. This includes two very good friends of mine who aren't on this board who I haven't seen in some time, so right now that's becoming my own personal priority. Nothing against the outer boroughs, and my apologies to everyone here who I might not be able to see this time around! A full-on FT/ILx splurge will definitely occur instead when Tom makes his long-threatened NYC visit, as I'm planning on attending that when it does happen.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 2 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

NYC Visit Update (should be US visit update since I may well not be based in NYC): I am now planning to move flats in November since living alone is slowly turning me into a luny. This will take time and money, so a visit before all that has happened is now not a possibility. However I plan to come over pretty much as soon as I get money after that, hopefully in the early Spring before the air fares rocket up. It will be lovely to meet you all.

Tom, Thursday, 2 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I still don't understand. Maybe I was not meant to. Enjoy yersel' in the Rotten Apple Ned -

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 2 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

What is there to understand? Get together = gone bust. Ned has logistical problems, which I TOLD you he had, and is going with meeting up with friends immediately after wedding instead of trekking to meet.

Unless you meant Tom's post. Tom will never come here, I am well sure of it. ;)

Ally, Thursday, 2 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

So as far as I can tell: 1) Ned has wd rather hang with old friends than ppl he's never met before. Freek :) 2) Ally has some connexion w/this plan-making which she's being v. cagey about.

So I guess q becomes: do we go on w/o Ned & Ally? What says youse?

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 2 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It's not cagey at all.

Ally, Thursday, 2 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Atypically so. Anyway, Nedfest with no Ned is like a bedroom with no bed. We might have fun but it won't be as comfy. I am disappointed.

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 2 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Believe me, folks, were I there for all of Sunday as well, Nedfest would occur. ;-) Think of it this way -- you get NedTomFest instead. And isn't that a marvy fun fab thing?

Ned Raggett, Friday, 3 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

That is if Ned is still speaking to me after Trig Brother ;)

Tom, Friday, 3 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

HMMMMM.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 3 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

So is this thing happening or not? Ally's boyfriend claims they ARE going to the main get-together, and that I have to come too.

Otis Wheeler, Friday, 3 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ramon also claimed he'd call me "by noon" today to tell me what's up this weekend, but I ain't hearing no phone.

Ally, Friday, 3 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Alright, seriously, I propose the following:

Get together on Saturday. I can drag Ned briefly. Starting at either 4 or 5pm. One of the following locations:

Bryant Park outdoor bar, which is located at, funnily, Bryant Park. Downside being that it's generally very crowded there.

Doc Watson's, which is on 2nd and 77th, which supposedly has pretty good food too (Never had any there)

PD O'Hurley's, which is on 72nd and Broadway, which has a jukebox full of CHEESY ASS GREAT SHIT and is a pretty nice joint.

Prohibition, which is on Columbus and 86th. It's a nice joint, beware that it is a meet market some nights.

I'm willing to take other suggestions within the city.

Ally, Friday, 3 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Are you kids talking about Saturday as in tomorrow or in a week?

bnw, Friday, 3 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I would assume in a week; my understanding is that tomorrow Tom is going to try to give Ned a severe case of alcohol-poisoning.

Dan Perry, Friday, 3 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Not this one, but the next, babe. The 11th. WHO IS DOWN?

Ally, Friday, 3 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Kate mentioned absinthe regarding previous encounters with Mr. Ewing this year. I am going to tread warily, but bring aspirin just in case. ;-)

Ned Raggett, Friday, 3 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Alright. When I let go of my principals and agree to come and drag Ned and the little group he wants to get together with of people he knows for years along with me, I expect some sort of goddamned fanfare of people becoming helpful and letting me know who's coming or not. Quite frankly, me, Ned, Ned's friends, and Otis and Ramon is not a "meet up", it's called "sitting around chatting". I've completely debased my fuckin' principals here and in return I get no reply. WELL I AM NOT TAKING THIS. Who is down and will someone give feedback on locales within Manhattan? MUCH APPRECIATED, GRACIAS.

Ally, Monday, 6 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ally, you either shot down or ignored everything I've said on this subject. Whatever overpriced upper-west-side bar you want to go to is fine with me. REALLY.

Tracer Hand, Monday, 6 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh, this will be loads of fun...yo, Otis, you readin' this? I've been told by Ramon your biggest worry about this get together. YOU SHOULD HAVE NO WORRIES ON THAT ISSUE.

Ally, Monday, 6 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

What issue? That you guys might have to venture south of the park? :P you do seem to hold all the cards, i don't see how we can help. why don't you choose someplace where ned's at, and tell us about it?

("my principals" - i am sure they are sorry to be left behind but they prolly have attendance sheets to fill out anyway.)

Tracer Hand, Monday, 6 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

You're a whiny cry baby, and quite frankly the get together where you picked the place was a total dud compared to my get together.

I originally thought that Ned was staying on West 76th, he's informed me that he's actually staying on the EAST side so I will be searching out bars near him now, since my original info was wrong/misunderstood. Will update everyone by Wednesday.

Ally, Monday, 6 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Just cause everybody SAID they wanted to go look at Sanrio junk and then DIDN'T REALLY. And may I remind you that "your" get-together was mired in sweaty whispers and a lack of seating until we jumped in cabs bound for Canal Street.

WAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Tracer Hand, Monday, 6 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The only good thing about the Canal Street thing was climbing the scary ass stairs to the roof.

ANYHOW, as tempted as I am to say WE'RE GOING TO SCORES now that I realize it's not that far from where Ned's staying, I'm afraid we aren't going to Scores. I've come to two choices, the first couple replies to this on the thread decide which one we go to:

Back Page: I've been here, it's good, there will be no sports going on on Saturday so the crowd won't be annoying jock heads, there are billiards.

Subway Inn: My friend insisted we go there when I asked her for recommendations on the east side. I looked it up on Citysearch and quite frankly it looks fucking savage.

I'm also still throwing out Doc Watson's on 2nd ave, since that's near Ned too and was one of my original suggestions.

All of these places are relatively inexpensive to downright cheap.

Ally, Wednesday, 8 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

They both sound awful. Good choices! I'm leaning towards the Subway Inn, since it sounds like the shittiest place in the world, but that other place has darts, so I could go either way. I have no idea what Doc Watson's is.

Otis Wheeler, Wednesday, 8 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Man, you guys sure get crabby over picking a locale. It ain' t that hard to get around New Yawk. I mentioned this way back when, but I can't go because of a wedding outta town. Too bad, I could have given everyone Strokes CDs. Ha.

bnw, Wednesday, 8 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

You can't go??? You're one of the people I'd actually not mind hanging out with, for fuck's sake.

Otis, I picked them cos they sounded unbearable, isn't it great? Subway Inn sounds fucking AWESOME, it's probably the best place ever invented.

ALly, Wednesday, 8 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Actually, I will not be in NYC this weekend, either. Yeah, I know you're all disappointed & shit. There's always a next time, tho...

David Raposa, Friday, 10 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Dude, this isn't happening, but we're going to that grate fucked up subway place anyhow.

Either that or we'll ditch all of you for a roof party.

Ally, Friday, 10 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Dude, what do you mean this isn't happening? I bought a pair of red silk diapers special!

Tracer Hand, Friday, 10 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

That must be so exciting for you.

Ally, Saturday, 11 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

We had a great and lovely time, though we ended up not going to that Subway place after all. It was pretty ace. I wore a white shirt, which made it extra ace.
