Skip "Ex" Spence (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 17 May 2009 12:19 (seventeen years ago)

Stop sullying the slackjawed majesty of Sham 69 with your haughty parlor games, brigand.

Alex in NYC, Sunday, 17 May 2009 12:31 (seventeen years ago)

I put the Sham there cos they would never be taken in by the kind of suit-wearing loser this thread is calling out. (as pictured on the right)

Skip "Ex" Spence (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 17 May 2009 12:36 (seventeen years ago)

Diagonal pinstripes. Huh.

my features are so intense (kenan), Sunday, 17 May 2009 14:14 (seventeen years ago)

So what's hiding in your record collection? The AVALANCHES...

Sham are just exactly the kind of thing aging hipsters have stuck in their back closets, that and the Clash.

leavethecapital, Sunday, 17 May 2009 14:28 (seventeen years ago)

No way because Sham are all about TELLING US THE TRUTH

Jimmy Pursey Thrower (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 17 May 2009 14:30 (seventeen years ago)

Speaking as an aging 41 year old, my Sham 69 discs are proudly displayed on my shelves, not sequestered away in some dank closet. And THEY SHIT all over your precious little Animal Collective discs and Lady GaGa singles, you newts.

Alex in NYC, Sunday, 17 May 2009 14:51 (seventeen years ago)

That said, I'm not at all well-paid nor have a responsible job at the moment, so that's me out, then.

Alex in NYC, Sunday, 17 May 2009 14:52 (seventeen years ago)

cultured and aware of what, tho?

would you ask tom petty that? (tipsy mothra), Sunday, 17 May 2009 14:54 (seventeen years ago)

I've got all the responsibility I can possibly handle but I somehow missed out on the "well paid" part, so, it ain't me babe.

Jimmy Pursey Thrower (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 17 May 2009 15:36 (seventeen years ago)

Okay I think I've found case law on this issue

# People who like less popular music than yours are pretentious poseurs.
# People who like more popular music than yours are brainwashed marketing slaves.
# People who like music different from yours, but similarly popular, are pretentious brainwashed marketing-slave poseurs.
When in doubt, people who like music other than yours just don't know any better.

Jimmy Pursey Thrower (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 17 May 2009 15:38 (seventeen years ago)

fyi nv reallll animal collective fans (e.g. professional, aware, &c) would d/l shit pre-release and then buy the limited ed vinyl lp w/ hand-crayoned artwork bcz they know itz important to support the bands drug habit

Lamp, Sunday, 17 May 2009 15:40 (seventeen years ago)

fyi Lamp reallll Sham 69 fans wouldn't own any of Sham 69's music because they're in BORSTAL

(for now)

S-Ban Hour Best Hit Parade (DJ Mencap), Sunday, 17 May 2009 15:43 (seventeen years ago)

real animal collective fans would actually be in the band

rip dom passantino 3/5/09 never forget (max), Sunday, 17 May 2009 15:44 (seventeen years ago)

What we really need is a panel of ILM Good Taste arbiters who can set clearly defined rules and adjudicate on cases as they arise. Also maybe some kind of Truth and Reconciliation program and a rigorous system of bans for professional well-paid people in their late 30s, 40s and even early 50s.

Jimmy Pursey Thrower (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 17 May 2009 15:45 (seventeen years ago)

no what we need is more threads about animal collective

Lamp, Sunday, 17 May 2009 15:47 (seventeen years ago)

tbh i know ZERO people in real life who are like this. my friends are very unaware of music and pop culture as a whole. :-( i wish i could talk trash about the stuff i like but alas no.

also g*bbn*b already suffered a sug ban and tombot is gone thats pretty much all of them i think

Lamp, Sunday, 17 May 2009 15:49 (seventeen years ago)

Hold on, you said responsible. My friends are... but what's well-paid? Ah fuck it, I'm just a pretender when it comes to being an adult.

the tip of the tongue taking a trip tralalala (stevienixed), Sunday, 17 May 2009 15:51 (seventeen years ago)

There's a simple test nath. Do you have Good Taste y/n?

Jimmy Pursey Thrower (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 17 May 2009 15:54 (seventeen years ago)

i.e. how do u feel abt this wonderful animal cololective vid:

a) too much low-end
b) not enuff low-end
c) too psychedelic
d) not pyschedelic enuff imo
e) its aight but i liked their earlier work much better

Lamp, Sunday, 17 May 2009 15:56 (seventeen years ago)

No, I don't actually. I'm pathetically fannish when it comes to "incoherent taste" -> I will rabidly defend my "bad" idols and distrust ANYONE who has "coherent" taste. Whenever I meet someone, I wanna poke'em and prove they're alien.

the tip of the tongue taking a trip tralalala (stevienixed), Sunday, 17 May 2009 15:57 (seventeen years ago)

(So yes, I will defend the fact I read the Daily Mail website.)

the tip of the tongue taking a trip tralalala (stevienixed), Sunday, 17 May 2009 15:57 (seventeen years ago)

hahahahahahahahaha @ this thread.

For ref; these people were not my friends - they're people in the big important jobs at the medium-sized but internationally-renowned (apparently) organisation I work for. Like my girlfriend's boss.

Sickamous Mouthall (Scik Mouthy), Sunday, 17 May 2009 16:01 (seventeen years ago)

When in doubt, people who like music other than yours just don't know any better.

you forgot the corollary about people who like the same music you do but like it for the wrong reasons.

anyway, pending a layoff (which could totally happen any time), i fit the general parameters of the thread title. as a representative of my demographic, how can i help you?
