PIXAR POLL of DIRECTORS

Director credits gotten from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Pixar_films, which is why there are some people I've never heard of before.

Also, while researching the directors, I discovered that Cars 2 is in the pipeline. -_-

between Bird and Stanton for me, though how much The Iron Giant is weighing in Bird's favour is a question.

I will be curious to see where Lasseter comes in with respect to the lower-profile names.

Leee, Monday, 25 May 2009 23:29 (seventeen years ago)

Jeez, really tough choice between Bird and Stanton. No idea yet.

i wish i had a better idea of exactly what directors do on these films...i.e. if i should be voting more based on whose movies are more visually striking or whose are better scripted/conceived, stuff like that.

first part of Wall*e trumps everything else Pixar has done, BUT the Incredibles is a lot of fun, and I remember thinking that the scene with the son running over the water was pretty astounding (first time I really felt a CGI character/avatar seemingly running through an entire world instead of an animated space) and I think Ratatouille is sweet while displaying a passion for its subject (food). Unfair to bring Iron Giant into it, but damn...

The Devil's Avocado (Gukbe), Tuesday, 26 May 2009 01:08 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, funny that Bird's non-Pixar film may push my vote his way.

That is cheating, though.

Yeah, I really had no idea that so many movies had co-director credits, and no clue whatsoever what the lesser-known folks do exactly. I'm just going to assume, though, that the better-known guys are the primary creative forces behind their films (sorry Ash Brannon, John Ranft, and Jan Pinkava).

Bird

Alex in SF, Tuesday, 26 May 2009 04:11 (seventeen years ago)

Bird, I guess.

litcofsky, Tuesday, 26 May 2009 04:16 (seventeen years ago)

Since this is a Pixar poll, I'm not gonna vote for Bird just because he directed Iron Giant. Incredibles had many fun moments, but the violence and the conservatism was kinda disappointing after a pacifist masterpiece like Iron Giant.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 26 May 2009 11:20 (seventeen years ago)

Would have said Bird in an instant because he's the most obviously auteurish but my two-year-old has been watching Finding Nemo and Wall-E obsessively and I'm still discovering great new things in both of them. I think Stanton's more warmer and humanist than Bird - fewer thematic axes to grind.

Dorian (Dorianlynskey), Tuesday, 26 May 2009 11:38 (seventeen years ago)

"more warmer" - smoothly put

Dorian (Dorianlynskey), Tuesday, 26 May 2009 11:38 (seventeen years ago)

Probably Stanton for the amazing double whammy of Nemo and Wall-E.

chap, Tuesday, 26 May 2009 12:29 (seventeen years ago)

Gotta go with Stanton, agreeing with chap, Dorian and Tuomas above.

Oh thanking u for aiming this poll's closing date far enough away that I can see UP!

Monsters, Inc. is just embarrassingly underrated.

On second thought, totally not Bird, as that's Pinkava's creation that Bird just meddled with.

Stanton definitely.

Still need to see UP.

Just vote Stanton.

Leee, Saturday, 18 July 2009 23:15 (sixteen years ago)

Bird's "oh, it's so difficult to be more talented than everyone else" theme is a bit grating, but his movies are the most ambitious, with the exception of WALL-E. But I'll take anything in the Incredibles or Ratatouille over the last 2/3 of WALL-E. So Bird.
