Socks and sandals: Dud, or maybe not as dud as everyone thinks?

So I was in my socky feet around the apartment, and needed to mop the kitchen. To avoid wetting my socks, I slipped my sandals on over them, and all-of-a-suddenly realized that I had just navigated into completely uncharted waters. Normally this would be unthinkable, but I'm looking at the arrangement here -- black socks, brown sandals, brown trousers (not shorts, I feel it is important to point out) -- and I'm thinking, this isn't at all terrible. I've worn way goofier things because other people said it would look good. I believe I have avoided socks and sandals for the sole, possibly inadequate reason that other people say they look bad.

Is this just the exception that proves the rule? Is there more than one rule at work here? Like I said, uncharted waters.

I may be a bit punchy from sleep deprivation, which is why I think that I am actually cool enough to make this work for the first time in history. But what if I was? Dare to dream, people.

If this became acceptable, someone could make a fortune designing socks that are just a bot more like outerwear than every other socks. And everyone could have the illusion of walking around in their socks in public. I say it's a win win. We just have to tear down these social barriers, subvert the dominant paradigm. I mean, you all know what to do when two roads diverge in a wood! There in great freedom ahead!

Mostly I like the idea of everyone suddenly, for reasons they scarcely understand, having to buy more presentable and expensive socks -- FROM ME.

But let's just call that freedom.

how much of disliking socks+sandals comes from the ugly factor and how much of it comes from disliking the people / lifestyle associated with socks+sandals? I feel like it's more #2.

I'm considering putting on socks and sandals why because fuck you

forget the socks element: sandals do not belong on men except maybe at the beach.

Feet are just awful, I do not want to see them.
