It's possible that there were other censored movies that grossed more but I don't know how to search for them.

I'm skipping PG-13 because that list was so boring.

abanana, Saturday, 30 May 2009 02:33 (seventeen years ago)

Oooh Crash and Showgirls, two of my ten favorite films of the 1990s. I'm giving it to Crash cuz it needs more love and cuz it's been eclipsed by that other awful Oscar bait one.

Wow! Eyes Wide Shut made that much $? I suppose with Cruise/Kidman at the helm, it makes sense. I love watching it despite its unfortunate wrist-slapping final third.

Kevin John Bozelka, Saturday, 30 May 2009 02:35 (seventeen years ago)

why didn't you make the poll what it says? as you point out, a lot of these were never rated anything but R. just skip the years where no NC-17s were released.

Bad Lieutenant so obv

tuppence d bag (Whiney G. Weingarten), Saturday, 30 May 2009 02:40 (seventeen years ago)

WHORE if you can't say it, see it

Alex in SF, Saturday, 30 May 2009 02:40 (seventeen years ago)

Bad Education was NC-17? Really? It's the best movie on the list so it's nice that it actually is NC-17.

Alex in SF, Saturday, 30 May 2009 02:41 (seventeen years ago)

Foreign can be NC-17, since $5M grossses register as "zilch" to Hollywood types.

Dr Morbius, Saturday, 30 May 2009 02:43 (seventeen years ago)

I just don't even remember what would be so saucy about it. Sex & Lucia seemed much more racy IIRC.

Alex in SF, Saturday, 30 May 2009 02:52 (seventeen years ago)

Crash

Am not gay. Voted for Bad Education over EWS & Showgirls. Despite (ahem, Morbius) evidence to the contrary, I'd like to point out that ILX does not always think with its genitals.

"alt-black" (Pillbox), Saturday, 30 May 2009 03:43 (seventeen years ago)

I point you to the Sterling Cooper poll for evidence to the contrary. ;)

Alex in SF, Saturday, 30 May 2009 03:50 (seventeen years ago)

wow, I haven't seen any of these. Unless there's another well-known NC-17 movie out there, the only one I have probably seen is Kids, which I'm surprised isn't on here.

ti's girl on the outside (musically), Saturday, 30 May 2009 04:17 (seventeen years ago)

I guess it came out the same year as Showgirls.

Alex in SF, Saturday, 30 May 2009 04:23 (seventeen years ago)

oh shit, Happiness is on here i change my answer

cat as cap can (Whiney G. Weingarten), Saturday, 30 May 2009 04:24 (seventeen years ago)

Bad Lieutenant

M.V., Saturday, 30 May 2009 04:41 (seventeen years ago)

I forgot Bad Education came out as a NC-17. Total bogus bullshit.

nu hollywood (Eric H.), Saturday, 30 May 2009 05:07 (seventeen years ago)

Other thing weird about this list is how auteurey it is. Even Whore was Ken Russell.

nu hollywood (Eric H.), Saturday, 30 May 2009 05:09 (seventeen years ago)

xpost: yeah, I didn't realize that either. Total wtf

"alt-black" (Pillbox), Saturday, 30 May 2009 05:18 (seventeen years ago)

I mean, the pedo stuff isn't even all that titillating.

nu hollywood (Eric H.), Saturday, 30 May 2009 05:19 (seventeen years ago)

So basically something like Basic Instinct can skirt past (slide by?) with OMG total beavershot, but BE gets slapped down for, I assume, suggested homosex? No double-standards there..

"alt-black" (Pillbox), Saturday, 30 May 2009 05:25 (seventeen years ago)

Am not gay. Voted for Bad Education over EWS & Showgirls.

I'm confused. Does this mean Eyes Wide Shut has a gay following?

Kevin John Bozelka, Saturday, 30 May 2009 06:55 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

Crash in a walk.

Matt Armstrong, Friday, 5 June 2009 00:10 (sixteen years ago)

this is a tough one, a bunch of good ones here, not to mention crash and happiness are two of my favorite films...

鬼の手 (Edward III), Friday, 5 June 2009 00:22 (sixteen years ago)

happiness

Zeno, Friday, 5 June 2009 00:23 (sixteen years ago)

I'm confused. Does this mean Eyes Wide Shut has a gay following?

No, it means I voted for it for reasons which had little do with Gael GB's underpants & despite the competing draw of OMG Jessie Spano's boobs & lol tits & masks.

"alt-black" (Pillbox), Friday, 5 June 2009 00:35 (sixteen years ago)

all about some Cronenberg

Morley Timmons, Friday, 5 June 2009 05:11 (sixteen years ago)

xpost: whoops, I mean Bad Education, obv.

"alt-black" (Pillbox), Friday, 5 June 2009 05:12 (sixteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

System, Friday, 5 June 2009 23:01 (sixteen years ago)

I was going to vote for happiness and forgot! I'm glad crash won but happiness really shouldn't tie with showgirls and the aristocrats, my vote could've made a difference.

remember to vote kids, it's important

鬼の手 (Edward III), Saturday, 6 June 2009 00:23 (sixteen years ago)

Wow. Surprised at the Crash turnout. That flick's a VERY hard sell. And Showgirls at number two? Movie heaven.

Kevin John Bozelka, Saturday, 6 June 2009 00:36 (sixteen years ago)

... really?

Nhex, Saturday, 6 June 2009 00:43 (sixteen years ago)
