― Surmounter, Wednesday, 3 June 2009 01:45 (fifteen years ago)
i don't think i want to voice an opinion in answer to the question if that's ok
depends on the life!
17, maybe, if you're a star high school quarterback and have nothing else to look forward to.
17 for me was all about making an ass out of myself constantly and wanting to die.
So far every year of my 20s has been getting progressively better.
― ya'll are the ones who don't know things (Z S), Wednesday, 3 June 2009 01:45 (fifteen years ago)

you hit 17 and you've peaked and then it dips a little and you get back to the same point at 21 and then you drop for real

The golden age= kids grown up, parents not incontinent yet.
― Beth Parker, Wednesday, 3 June 2009 12:40 (fifteen years ago)
0-12 - this is really the golden age guys, being a kid rules. u play outside and ride bikes and eat pizza all the time and everyone is nice to you.
13-18 - SUCKS. junior high / high school is the fucking worst. seriously i never understand people who look back at high school like it was the peak of their life. no one takes u seriously, u have acne and don't know how to dress. there's bullshit social hierarchies and not really until the end do u rarely have the self-confidence to actually enjoy the best parts of being a teenager. unless u have the right connections or a lol fake ID it's hard to get alcohol outside your parents' liquor cabinet. that i have a lot of good memories from high school and a lot of my closest friends are from this time. i would never want to go back tho.
18-22 - this can be pretty cool - lolcollege etc. u have so many of the privileges of being an adult but basically zero responsibilities. so much free time and money to have fun. u can stay up late getting stoned/drunk listening to music, playing cards, talking about bullshit philosophy w/ friends. u kind of have that neat feeling of totally being able to decide what kind of person u want to be. also lots of parties.
22-30 - where i am at now (i'm 26) - so far the best. every year just gets better. u know more and more about yourself and feel more comfortable in the world. u can weed out all the bad friends and get closer to your better friends. u can do cool things like get married and start grad school and your career. u have time for hobbies like brewing beer and cooking and hiking and traveling and record collecting. you're in good physical shape.
30-40 - dunno, seems pretty cool? start having kids and making jokes about 'becoming an old man' even tho ur still pretty young and fit.
40s - $$$ career peak?? i guess, that's what everyone says right? that's pretty cool i guess. also parenting and all that. probably this is a harder transition period - ur between being young and being old and it's kind of a weird limbo.
50s & 60s - from what i observe this could def. be the peak - kids are grown up and u have a lot of seniority/expertise in a job. w/ kids gone u have more time for hobbies than anytime since your 20s, w/ a lot more money to do so?
70s & 80s - not so cool i guess. grandkids would be awesome but also u have more health problems - even if nothing serious u still can't do physically what u used to be able to do
― mark cl, Wednesday, 3 June 2009 13:16 (fifteen years ago)

― Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Wednesday, 3 June 2009 13:28 (fifteen years ago)
being a kid was the best for me. Had a completely nice and untraumatic childhood though, which definitely helps. My friends with wife-beating dads, divorced parents, siblings who died etc. probably wouldn't have the same answer. Running around everywhere, playing football every day if the weather was good, Nintendo and Super Nintendo, discovering loads of different new things (e.g. I fucking hate flying and am ultra-scared of it, but when I went to Chile on a plane when I was 8 it was an awesome adventure). Also I was in a cool bubble of not really understanding the serious shit that goes on in life until I was 10 years old and saw a teenager die by crashing into a tree on a moped.
― languid samuel l. jackson (jim), Wednesday, 3 June 2009 13:29 (fifteen years ago)

― cant go with u too many alfbrees (Abbott), Wednesday, 3 June 2009 15:46 (fifteen years ago)
I'm thinking my 50s are going to be pretty awesome because I will be old enough to pull the "I'm old enough to be as completely kooky as I want, kid" card, although I have enjoyed my 20s and my 30s immensely as well (some ups and downs, natch, but for the most part I am pretty content).
― Jenny, Wednesday, 3 June 2009 16:46 (fifteen years ago)
obv parts of every year are rad and parts of every year carve little pieces out of your soul but post-college like 21-24 have been majority awesome - basically best parts of college + money and time to do shit and a better sense of who u r as a person and like emotionz and how 2 relate 2 them

I don't particularly believe that there's a peak as such, but things have been getting better since 22. Basically the main feature is that the frequency of me saying/doing stupid regrettable embarrassing shit has gone from ~once an hour at age 18, to daily, and then to weekly.
― snoball, Wednesday, 3 June 2009 17:14 (fifteen years ago)
sometimes i see these pimp old men who just chill at coffee joints drinking coffee and reading books and chatting everyone up, and they're all wearing jaunty caps and occasionally have a dope old man bike and it seems to be a pretty good way to live at that age. though i would not live that way in los angeles, i think past a certain age being around here would be depressing as hell.
