2009, what do you talk/write like now?

In high school I used the word dude only ironically, now I mean it deeply- and I can foresee the same thing happening with hella.
For most of my life, comedy has been about punctuation. Now comedy is slowly becoming about no punctuation.

I don't use the word gay to mean lame or retarded to mean stupid, but it hasn't been that long since I did. Also I have lots of adult friends who still do.

I started saying "what's happening," in place of "hi" after office space. The irony quickly wore off, but I still use the phrase.

I still talk like everyone I've ever been based on who I'm around. Talk vulgar & hip-hop with old slam homies, speak carefully and quietly with close friends, and talk bro with my roommate. See if you can match the sample salutation with the recipient of the greeting--

1--"Peace out, bro."
2--"Motherfucker! The fuck is up, man?"
3--"Hey, what's going on?"

I am forever me, a mixture of random long words and banalities. I figure.

I get more pretentious the more you know me.

I talk and write more like a philosopher than I used to, for better and for worse. I find it harder to sound dumb than I used to, though I can talk "country" better than I could five years ago. I'm a better swearer than I used to be, too.

I talk like a loopy, gregarious hick with a boner for vocabs and puns.

I am always really afraid that I sound less intelligent then I am because of the inflection in my voice. I'm afraid that I sound sort of valley girl-ish. This is probably me just being paranoid. I also curse too much.

Here in the US I sometimes feel like I sound like a standard-issue Brit instead of like me.

I'm frustrated that I can't resort to images in everyday conversations.

^^^

except i don't think i even said "dude" ironically until college. but i've noticed a lot of people, even 10-20 years older than me, using dude more. it's definitely entered the lexicon in a more routine way.

would you ask tom petty that? (tipsy mothra), Wednesday, 3 June 2009 04:39 (sixteen years ago)

When I was in high school my friend and I started ironically speaking with needless erudition to mock pretentious people. Then after a few years we lost the irony. Now, among certain people, I'm that douche that says "That reminds me of this thing Baudrillard said..." at the bar. I hate it a little bit. But not a lot of bit.
