The only book I ever wrote pays subtle tribute to Jerome K. Jerome, but as a past-recovery poet I voted for W.C.W. The clan! The clan must stick together!

Jerome!

And what about Jameson Jameson, from the 'Just William' books?

James Morrison, Tuesday, 9 June 2009 04:17 (sixteen years ago)

I knew a kid named "Lincoln Lincoln". No lie.

J.K.J. ftw.
3MIAB is the just great all the way through. SO great that even a mini series with Griff Rhys Jones, Dara O'Brian, and Rory McGrath couldn't ruin it.

Neville Neville ftw.

G & S are funny, no doubt, but really 3MIAB is just wonderful. I re-read every couple of years and it never fails to bring the lols. I even have a copy in the car read by Hugh Laurie. Abridged of course, so leaves out the suicide, which strikes the only odd note in the book. The section around the fish in the pub is one of the great comic moments in Brit lit.

The anecdote about the swan(s) is my favourite bit IIRC

"and how he had fought it, and how it had swum away to die"

Follow up is a bit dismal though.

It starts off promisingly but then seems to turn into an extended diatribe against the crazy germans which inexplicably fails to bring the lols.
