Its a death trap, its a suicide rap
We gotta get out while we're young
`cause tramps like us, baby we were born to run"
Or not.

There is something appealing about being born, living, and dying in the same place. For me personally, I have an attraction to the exotic that makes this impossible.

Isn't it clever how I fused the two?

Super Cub, Tuesday, 9 June 2009 19:46 (sixteen years ago)

No, I live rather far away from where I'm from. But I do plan on moving back to where I'm from, or somewhere around there anyway, someday.

Dr. Johnson (askance johnson), Tuesday, 9 June 2009 19:50 (sixteen years ago)

Don't really feel like I'm "from" any state - my family is from Florida and I was born there but only lived there the first 6 months of my life or so.

My mom is one of those people who lives on the street where she was raised; apart from 9 months in Chicago she's never lived in any other town.

This is a huge issue where I live, Hawaii. Being from here is a badge of honor and often flaunted. Moving here makes you lesser. Personally, it doesn't bother me much. I don't think I'd want to be from here.

Super Cub, Tuesday, 9 June 2009 19:53 (sixteen years ago)

Re "totally different" = what if I'm from the suburbs but now live in the city?

From Delaware (although my mom insists that I will never be from Delaware, because I was not born there (wtf, mom)), living in Illinois. I haven't lived in DE for since 1999, and only lived there off and on from 1994-1999. If I had to move back to the area, I'd prefer to live in Philadelphia. Although if I do have to move back, it will probably be for family stuff, which would make living in Phils impractical.

Except from August 1992 to March 1995, I've lived in my home state all my life.

I've told my wife a hundred times that I'm willing to go elsewhere, but damn it's cheap down here.

I bet "hell no" is going to have a lot more answers than "no." I am a New England transplant and happy that way. Sometimes I flirt with the idea of moving to Alaska after grad school, though.

Returned to the island (Martha's Vineyard, MA, USA) with babies in 1984. They're big now and all of us are still here. I love this place.

Believe it or don't, when I was born in Portland, Oregon, it was something of a backwater hick town, known for its strong contingent of Presbyterian bluenoses and a bunch of small time crooks.

I still live here (more or less) but it has somehow morphed into a magnet for hip young college graduates with crunchy leanings. This means I am, by association, much hipper at 54 than I was at 16 -- although I must state that when I was 16 (in 1970) I was among the first-wave, trend-setting early adapters of using a backpack as a book bag in high school. It was made of olive green canvas and I used it because I pedalled my bike to school.

Apres moi, les deluges. Be suitably impressed.

Socal desert to Socal urban. So option 2 - it's probably less than 100 miles, but totally different.

nickn, Wednesday, 10 June 2009 00:43 (sixteen years ago)

I live a couple stops up the 6 from where I was born

Reggiano Jackson (gabbneb), Wednesday, 10 June 2009 01:40 (sixteen years ago)

I live within 40 miles of where I was born, so I said "yes." But for about half of my life, I didn't. Weird.

Chubby Checker Psycho (Pancakes Hackman), Wednesday, 10 June 2009 01:52 (sixteen years ago)

i live approx. 2800 miles from my where i grew up, and that's ok

velko, Wednesday, 10 June 2009 02:01 (sixteen years ago)

my vote is a "no" but not a "hell no." both states are hilariously dysfunctional.
