but obvious missing one: onion rings

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 11 June 2009 18:30 (sixteen years ago)

donuts vs bagel vs pasta

cheerios are good but as an answer it's like saying the best drink is water when the answer is clearly beer

pasta is good drenched in delicious sauces but I prefer other pasta shapes

bagels are grand, especially in the NYC/NJ area, plus their inherent breadlike versatility is a strength

but have to take the homer simpson option here because pastries in general are my foodstuffs weak spot

okay, I will openly admit I fucked up on not including onion rings because that's in my like top 10 foods all time. that's what I get for rushing/not doing extensive research on my poll.

for my poll

pj, Thursday, 11 June 2009 18:32 (sixteen years ago)

kinda feel like I'm being a dick here but on the other hand don't start a thread about ring-shaped foods unless you're totally committed

anyone who doesn't vote donut=Hitler

Mr. Que, Thursday, 11 June 2009 18:33 (sixteen years ago)

Kerm, Thursday, 11 June 2009 18:35 (sixteen years ago)

There are 2 groups of people on this thread: those who choose donuts and liars.

Darin, Thursday, 11 June 2009 18:35 (sixteen years ago)

king cake for its festive nature.

kijiji, Thursday, 11 June 2009 18:36 (sixteen years ago)

Donuts kind of suck. I still eat them but they're always disappointing. I vote bagels.

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 11 June 2009 18:37 (sixteen years ago)

why good afternoon Mr. Hitler

Mr. Que, Thursday, 11 June 2009 18:38 (sixteen years ago)

Only good donuts I've had were hot from Krispy Kreme, and even those are kind of gross and left me feeling shaky and freaked out.

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 11 June 2009 18:38 (sixteen years ago)

donuts are like vitamins for my soul

Mr. Que, Thursday, 11 June 2009 18:39 (sixteen years ago)

Best donuts are cake donuts. Fact.

Bianca Jagger (jaymc), Thursday, 11 June 2009 18:39 (sixteen years ago)

n/a otm re: donuts -- they can be amazing but somehow seldom are

whereas the bagel is just brilliantly conceived, seriously, in so many ways: longevity, texture, portability, ability to go with other foods, just really well done

nabisco, Thursday, 11 June 2009 18:40 (sixteen years ago)

although now that I think about it, I have actually had one or two donuts that honestly would have been improved by a whitefish spread

nabisco, Thursday, 11 June 2009 18:42 (sixteen years ago)

ability to go with other foods

the bagel's single greatest advantage imo

Suggest this user to be danned. (dan m), Thursday, 11 June 2009 18:42 (sixteen years ago)

you can't be the best if you need improvement.

Kerm, Thursday, 11 June 2009 18:43 (sixteen years ago)

donuts come in many varieties, shapes, sizes. glazed or plain. chocolate icing. strawberry icing. sprinkles or without. donuts are a mouth carnival, a wonderous flavor carnival. donuts make people happy. can we say the same for bagels?

Mr. Que, Thursday, 11 June 2009 18:44 (sixteen years ago)

can you get bagels without the hole?

Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Thursday, 11 June 2009 18:44 (sixteen years ago)

Bagels are the best food, on this poll of ever.

Jenny, Thursday, 11 June 2009 18:45 (sixteen years ago)

on this poll OR ever.

Jenny, Thursday, 11 June 2009 18:45 (sixteen years ago)

Bagels cause people to err grammtically.

Mr. Que, Thursday, 11 June 2009 18:45 (sixteen years ago)

what about filled bagels - like a savoury version of filled donuts?

Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Thursday, 11 June 2009 18:45 (sixteen years ago)

tbh you've got to have a brundlefly sweet tooth to be down with donuts

some folks would rather eat peanuts then wolf down a chocolate bar and I can imagine the great donut vs. bagel debate shaping up along similar lines

鬼の手 (Edward III), Thursday, 11 June 2009 18:46 (sixteen years ago)

would you rather watch an Elvis impersonator, or Elvis himself?

day old or two day old donuts can be rendered delicious again through the miracle of the microwave, by the second day, any bagel I get is too hard to eat.

giving a shit when it isn't your turn to give a shit (sarahel), Friday, 12 June 2009 09:24 (sixteen years ago)

I'm glad the poll has ended and I don't have to decide between warm glazed Krispy Kreme-like donuts and salt bagels. I love them equally.

giving a shit when it isn't your turn to give a shit (sarahel), Friday, 12 June 2009 09:26 (sixteen years ago)

(xpost) same here, except i like cinnamon raisin bagels and find they go well with some savory foods. i always go for onion/garlic/salt/sesame/everything.

linda emangalitsa (get bent), Friday, 12 June 2009 09:26 (sixteen years ago)

xxp It makes sense once the texture moves away from that of an actual bagel, as it so often does. Blueberry BREAD is fine and delicious.

Brundlefly (kenan), Friday, 12 June 2009 09:27 (sixteen years ago)

yes, but at what point does it cease to be a bagel and become some bagel/muffin hybrid?

giving a shit when it isn't your turn to give a shit (sarahel), Friday, 12 June 2009 09:46 (sixteen years ago)

Cinnamon raisin is the only non-wrong 'sweet' bagel flavour, and I say that as someone who hates raisins in anything except for pain aux raisins.

502 Bad Gateway (suzy), Friday, 12 June 2009 09:49 (sixteen years ago)

cheerios always remind me of either micro machines or Honey i shrunk the kids advert. so classic, i guess.

oh, poll is over already? bler.

I was looking for a photo of the big ghetto-bling size variety of these, the ones made out of SweetTart-like substance & typically sold in vending machines & bulk candy stores. These will have to do instead:

N1ck (Upt0eleven), Friday, 12 June 2009 09:59 (sixteen years ago)

best doughnuts are the cider doughnuts sold at northeast u.s. farmer's markets in the fall and winter. they go stale so quickly, but when they're good they're simple and perfect.

linda emangalitsa (get bent), Friday, 12 June 2009 10:07 (sixteen years ago)

^^^ fresh out tha oven w/ cider so dense & sweet that more than one cup will give you a bellyache, but all this consumed in autumn venues specific to the midwest & northeast = super-ultra classic!

I will grant you, Indian savory donuts (which I have never eaten! a crime!) and cider donuts (which are seriously amazing) are two extremely compelling pro-donut arguments.

I still vote bagels, though. I eat so many bagels, you guys. It is like my staple food. Also, once when I was a kid, my father woke my stepbrother and me up in the middle of the night to take us to the 24-hour Mr. Donut that had just opened down the highway from our rural, unincorporated bend in the road, just for the novelty of it, and I'm still holding a pretty serious grudge against donuts because of it.
