Having just checked out a trailer of "Let The Right One In" I will definitely toss in said Swedish film with the CLASSIC VAMPIRE FILMS. Yes, yes, haven't seen the entire film and I already love it to death. I know some will slay me (hah!) for proclaiming Bram Stoker's Dracula (Coppola) as a GREBT movie, but, y'know, I can't deny it: I love the film. I also like Lost Boys although I realize it's a (cough cough) guilty pleasure. I'm currently reading the Sookie Stackhouse series which is really great fun. Near Dark is of course fangtastic.I would definitely destroy Twilight although I know it's a bit of a cliche to do so.
Has anyone read the Lynda Hamilton (???) books? They appear to be quite good.

Search: Warren-era Vampirella comics, particularly those by Jose Gonzales.
Destroy: Everything I've seen since, I'm sorry to say.

That Mark Ecko perfume ad involving the show "True Blood" is on every freaking pay phone in Manhattan:

Yeah, I thought this thread was True Blood-related, too.

If you're looking for reading matter, stevie, the Kim Newman series starting with Anno Dracula is pretty hard to beat.

Anna Dracula was much better than I was expecting!

er, Anno.

Sweet! I love this thread already. I want to check out that book, although Amazon only selling it used worries me.
I definitely have more of a soft spot for cheesy vampires than creepy ones, though. I adore Buffy and True Blood, but I only thought Let the Right One In was an interesting movie (i.e. a much more lukewarm response than the ILX average).

Oooohhhh with extra shivers. I loved LTROI but maybe more as an antidote to the other really popular vampire books, which I needed a break from.

Don't know why Anno Dracula is out of print, can only assume it's some kind of problem with the rights. Combines all sorts of fictional characters, sort of like Alan Moore's League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, though this came first.

i bought my vampire loving gurl friend a book about elizabeth bathory thinking that it was of similar interest, but instead it just freaked her out and she couldn't finish it.

I'd really like to check out Guillermo del Toro's new vampire novel, "The Strain." Wondering if it would make good beach reading when I go to Hawaii in a couple weeks (nb: I've never taken a beach vacation and have no idea what you're supposed to read on said beach). Regardless, if anyone can make vamps interesting again, I think it's Guillermo.

PHWAR! I'll def check it out.
I watched LTROI last night. Discovered it was a NON-subbed version. After 20 minutes I decided to DL the subbed version. A half hour later I was watching it with subs. OMG! I think it's just bloody awesome. (Same day I also got the book, which I expect will be less grebt but I cld be wrong.) Just so eerie, poetic,... The scariness had most of its effect after it finished. I love it and will def watch it again with my husband (who's more of a zombie fan).

Disappointed to learn from the Guardian review that 'The Strain' was actually written by Chuck Hogan, from a twelve page outline by Del Toro.
The LTROI book is pretty damn good, and adds a lot of background to the story.

I guess the Hakan-Eli "relationship" is more explained? I'm not sure I would want that. We'll see.
