I have this thing on Time Delay and try to watch as many games as I can but often miss a game or two. Can we post who wins and loses on this thread ?

anthony, Sunday, 2 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I am top of the league in the ILE fantasy league! Gotta get rid of Zidane and Henry though.

Today's results:

# Argentina 1 - Nigeria 0
England 1 - Sweden 1
Paraguay 2 - South Africa 2
Spain 3 - Slovenia 1

jel --, Sunday, 2 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Okay, just the results so far. We should try to limit this thread to that, perhaps noting the group tables as they develop?
Senegal 1 France 0
Ireland 1 Cameroon 1
Uruguay 1 Denmark 2
Germany 8 Saudi Arabia 0
Argentina 1 Nigeria 0
Paraguay 2 South Africa 2
England 1 Sweden 1
Spain 3 Slovenia 1

Jeff W, Tuesday, 11 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

My ILE fantasy league campaign has been a complete shambles. Not being able to transfer players until the 2-day gap between round two and the quarters could conceivably leave me lumbered with four players whose nations are out of the Cup and two more who never get a game anyway. I'm ranked 51725th (out of 65000-ish) in the main table.

Time for some shuffling of the weights...

Michael Jones, Tuesday, 11 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Sweden 1-1 Argentina Nigeria 0-0 England

(Sweden, England qualify - in that order - for round of sixteen on 5pts each; Argentina [4pts], Nigeria [1pt] go out; Sweden will face Senegal in R2, England will play Denmark)

South Africa 2-3 Spain Slovenia 1-3 Paraguay

(Spain win group with 9pts; Paraguay/South Africa level on 4pts, goal difference [0], but Paraguay go through on goals scored [6 to South Africa's 5]; Slovenia finish bottom with 0pts; Spain will play Ireland in R2, Paraguay will play Germany)

Michael Jones, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

And my lead on our fantasy league is up to 16 points! I seem to be in the top 2% in the whole competition, 1202 out of over 65,000 people, which I'm pleased about. But three of my seven have been knocked out! (Crespo, Trezeguet, Mboma.) I will need some clever transfers, when we are allowed.

Martin Skidmore, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't see a great deal changing post-transfers, Martin - there'll only be 8 games left in the tournament, contested by eight teams - lots of people will have very similar line-ups. Swapping out Raul on a whim was a daft thing to do.

I'll be happy if I finish in the top 5 (ILE) or 40000 (BBC). I'm holding out for a (quarter-final hat-trick) hero.

Michael Jones, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

It's true that the group stage is three quarters of all the games, and second round half of the rest. I expect just about everyone will have Raul, Owen, Vieri - very similar line-ups. I have a strong lead and I'm confident the boys can do it. In fact, I am so confident I am abandoning the usual plan of taking it one game at a time, and intend playing three at once for the rest of the tournament.

Martin Skidmore, Wednesday, 12 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Costa Rica 2 Brazil 5
Turkey 3 China 0

(Brazil 9pts, Turkey 4, Costa Rica 4, China 0; Turkey have a superior Goal Difference to Costa Rica, who are eliminated along with China)

Mexico 1 Italy 1
Ecuador 1 Croatia 0

(Mexico 7pts, Italy 4, Croatia 3, Ecuador 3. Croatia and Ecuador eliminated.)

zebedee, Thursday, 13 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Last bunch of group phase games: Tunisia 0-2 Japan; Belgium 3-2 Russia (Japan win group with 7pts, Belgium also qualify with 5; out go Russia [3] and Tunisia [1]). South Korea 1-0 Portugal; Poland 3-1 USA (South Korea win group win 7pts, USA in second place with 4; Portugal and Poland [3 each] eliminated). The line-up for the round of sixteen: Denmark v England
Brazil v Belgium
Sweden v Senegal
Japan v Turkey
Germany v Paraguay
Mexico v USA

rener, Tuesday, 18 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

(golly, it is appreciated then - I thought it was pure folly and you were all off looking at proper footy web-sites; I won't be near a PC for the quarters, so someone else will have to type them in...)

(most pedantic post EVAH?)

zebedee, Monday, 1 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

No, well done for completing it. Can I just add that I stormed away with the ILE fantasy league? Thank you.

Martin Skidmore, Monday, 1 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Well done to Martin - shame you didn't quite make the ton. A late surge into UEFA Cup contention by Carsmile thanks to Ronaldo; meanwhile, a spell in the Nationwide for me & Graham. I like to think of my team as a side in transition. From poor to completely useless.

See you in Portugal 2004.

Michael Jones, Tuesday, 2 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Martin congratulations, in the end your boys wanted it more. We never expected to get this far so right now we'll go home, rebuild a bit and keep an eye on Euro 2004.
