I'm sure, on some making of doc or commentary on a DVD (maybe one of the LoTR films) he mentions he was able to advise on the accuracy of the sound a man makes when he is dying of a throat wound or similar, as he had 'been a witness' to such a thing when he was... in the shit. So to speak. Sorry, a bit vague all that. But yeah.
