OMG do you even have to ask? Mary. One of my favourite teen pics ever. FFS she DRUMMED.

I GOTTA BRAKE FREEEEE (stevienixed), Wednesday, 17 June 2009 13:45 (sixteen years ago)

Pretty much every guy I've ever been friends with had a crush on Watts. Lea Thompson is probably the prettier one but MSM had was the awesome bff with the drums so . . . yeah.

Fennec fox which does grooming (ENBB), Wednesday, 17 June 2009 13:46 (sixteen years ago)

Lea is just a girl pining to be a housewife.

I GOTTA BRAKE FREEEEE (stevienixed), Wednesday, 17 June 2009 13:47 (sixteen years ago)

Although that's the direction this poll will probably take, I didn't necessarily mean for this to be a choice between stuffy Amanda Jones and totally awesome Watts. More about the actresses and their careers in general.

kingkongvsgodzilla, Wednesday, 17 June 2009 13:51 (sixteen years ago)

i do not see lea thompson's alleged prettiness, which made this movie's entire premise seem ridiculous to me.

horseshoe, Wednesday, 17 June 2009 13:51 (sixteen years ago)

What a horrible movie. No... wait... that's not true. What a horrible choice. It's Pretty in Pink or Sixteen Candles all over again.

Brundlefly (kenan), Wednesday, 17 June 2009 13:51 (sixteen years ago)

ARGH I am trying in vain to find a clip of Elias Koteas from the party scene because, well, it's awesome.

Sorry to hijack thread. I just can't help it.

I should do a Keith v. Duncan poll

Fennec fox which does grooming (ENBB), Wednesday, 17 June 2009 13:53 (sixteen years ago)

Eric Stoltz looked greaaaat in this

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 17 June 2009 13:53 (sixteen years ago)

eric stolz out-pretties everyone in this movie.

lol xpost

horseshoe, Wednesday, 17 June 2009 13:54 (sixteen years ago)

his voice sounds sort of pre-pubertal, though

horseshoe, Wednesday, 17 June 2009 13:54 (sixteen years ago)

JESUS CHRIST you girls. I give up.

Brundlefly (kenan), Wednesday, 17 June 2009 13:54 (sixteen years ago)

More about the actresses and their careers in general.

I can't think of anything that Lea Thompson has been in aside from Lifetime movies right now.

Fennec fox which does grooming (ENBB), Wednesday, 17 June 2009 13:54 (sixteen years ago)

Yes, Eric Stolz is exceptionally "pretty" in this almost to a freakish degree.

HS - I wonder if he'd started working on his thesis at that point already.

Fennec fox which does grooming (ENBB), Wednesday, 17 June 2009 13:55 (sixteen years ago)

was in love with her in Catholic Boys

uh back to the future

congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 17 June 2009 13:56 (sixteen years ago)

do not see lea thompson's alleged prettiness, which made this movie's entire premise seem ridiculous to me.

I think that the director purposefully made her look less pretty than normal for this movie so other guys would not try to hone in on his turf.

kingkongvsgodzilla, Wednesday, 17 June 2009 13:56 (sixteen years ago)

that's a theory

horseshoe, Wednesday, 17 June 2009 13:57 (sixteen years ago)

x-post - OK yeah good point.

Fennec fox which does grooming (ENBB), Wednesday, 17 June 2009 13:57 (sixteen years ago)

100% ditto, she's plain-faced and scrawny, a gimlet-eyed horsewoman with a mannish jaw. She'd make a good lesbian on the Lword.

But not someone who should be dead anyway (Laurel), Wednesday, 17 June 2009 14:00 (sixteen years ago)

geez
i always thought she was a normal sort of pretty -- not OMG YOU ARE GORGEOUS, but just normal pretty and petite, sort of like, i dunno, tracey gold?

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Wednesday, 17 June 2009 14:02 (sixteen years ago)

also why is no one talking about that dick who plays the rich guy
man, he sucked

CRAIG SCHAFFER

Fennec fox which does grooming (ENBB), Wednesday, 17 June 2009 14:03 (sixteen years ago)

whoops Craig Sheffer

Fennec fox which does grooming (ENBB), Wednesday, 17 June 2009 14:04 (sixteen years ago)

he got his comeuppance by being cast as "the keith" on one tree hill

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Wednesday, 17 June 2009 14:04 (sixteen years ago)

close enough

He is one of those people who always plays assholes.

Fennec fox which does grooming (ENBB), Wednesday, 17 June 2009 14:04 (sixteen years ago)

I think the weathering of age is making her look more interesting and more...knowing, somehow. This photo looks like someone who would have a really firm handshake and a southwestern accent and have horses and be awesome. But I never thought she was particularly pretty in Pretty in Pink or that Caroline show, tbh.

But not someone who should be dead anyway (Laurel), Wednesday, 17 June 2009 14:05 (sixteen years ago)

Craig Sheffer got to play 'the lead' in the Redford movie that made Brad Pitt a star

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 17 June 2009 14:07 (sixteen years ago)

craig scheffer is no james spader.

horseshoe, Wednesday, 17 June 2009 14:08 (sixteen years ago)

i like that people like her can be movie stars, y'know? she's not super hot, but she's cute and authentic and has dimples. i'm gonna stand up for her. also she was in BACK TO DA FUTURE.

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Wednesday, 17 June 2009 14:08 (sixteen years ago)

x-post TRUE

Fennec fox which does grooming (ENBB), Wednesday, 17 June 2009 14:08 (sixteen years ago)

i should admit that i have watched this movie like a bajillion times.

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Wednesday, 17 June 2009 14:09 (sixteen years ago)

yeah was gonna say thomson is more "cute" than "pretty"

congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 17 June 2009 14:11 (sixteen years ago)

she was married to Dennis Quaid, so i like to think about where her lips have been

would you ask tom petty that? (tipsy mothra), Wednesday, 17 June 2009 14:14 (sixteen years ago)

my only problem with her in this is that she didn't even learn how to fake playing the drums convincingly. undermines the tomboy-drummer hotness a little for me.

would you ask tom petty that? (tipsy mothra), Wednesday, 17 June 2009 14:15 (sixteen years ago)

(tougher choice for me would be msm in this vs. ally sheedy in breakfast club. i love john hughes alt-girls.)

would you ask tom petty that? (tipsy mothra), Wednesday, 17 June 2009 14:18 (sixteen years ago)

she was married to Dennis Quaid

??? When? She's actually married to the guy who directed Some Kind of Wonderful.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 19 June 2009 02:28 (fifteen years ago)

ally sheedy in breakfast club

Hotter before Ringwald made her over.

this thread is decades of madness, Lea Thompson is gorgeous

MSM was best in Heaven Help Us though

Jaime Pressly and America (f. hazel), Friday, 22 October 2021 21:20 (three years ago)

Lea Thomson was super foxy wtf?! All the people in this movie were very attractive in the 1980s when it came out and I saw it as a teenager and it somehow has seeped into my middle-aged psyche more than any of the other teen dramas of that era.

sarahell, Saturday, 23 October 2021 03:37 (three years ago)

Like these 1980s teen movies I know I saw but can barely remember anymore:

Pretty in Pink (Jon Cryer had a really cool outfit that I tried to emulate in my 20s, Molly Ringwald's friend had an awesome wardrobe and apartment)
Sixteen Candles (there was racism against Azns)
Ferris Bueller's Day Off (there was a cool car and they cut class)
Risky Business (Tom Cruise irons something while wearing sunglasses)
Breakfast Club (I remember a few things about that one -- there was a butt thing, Ally Sheedy's purse, Judd Nelson's fingerless glove, and a makeover ... and Don't Don't Don't You ... Forget About Me)
Lost Boys (Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, Kiefer Sutherland dressed cool, something about frogs)
Weird Science (Oingo Boingo song, a party, the bald guy with the weird face who was also in the original The Hills Have Eyes)
Dirty Dancing (affluent east coast white people, that song with Sylvia calling her loverboy)

sarahell, Saturday, 23 October 2021 03:47 (three years ago)

I did not see the Teenbeat Heartthrob Ensemble classic, The Outsiders, until I was an adult, so I am not including it above

sarahell, Saturday, 23 October 2021 03:50 (three years ago)

Risky Business is really weird to watch now

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Saturday, 23 October 2021 04:03 (three years ago)

oh and Heathers! I actually do remember a fair amount about Heathers --

I think the real alt-babe of 80s teen movies would be MSM in this vs. Winona in Heathers

sarahell, Saturday, 23 October 2021 04:07 (three years ago)

I could never get past what an ugly dress Molly Ringwald made in Pretty In Pink out of what Annie Potts gave her to work with. I understand...1986 and all, but jeezus. What a potato sack.

The soundtrack is incredible. Furniture's "Brilliant Mind" is one of the great 'lost' tracks of the 80s.
