Chosen because it's the weakest bunch of the eighties. Marlee Matlin won this one virtually by default, with Spacek the only competition

i like crimes of the heart even though it's such a shameless hamfest(and because i'm really really gay), but the only real answer is ripley cuz sigourney weaver should win an oscar every year. and the rest are a snooze.

I have no idea Weaver was actually nominated for Aliens! I've only seen that and Peggy Sue Got Married, so, I guess Ripley gets my vote.

sigourney wuz robbed.

My vote's for Weaver too, followed by Fonda in probably her last very interesting performance (crackling chemistry with Jeff Bridges too).

The paucity of good female roles probably explains the Weaver nod, which was fairly amazing in this or any year.

never saw Fonda, think I'd go Turner.

Dr Morbius, Friday, 19 June 2009 03:09 (sixteen years ago)

The paucity of good female roles probably explains the Weaver nod, which was fairly amazing in this or any year.

there was also a certain amount of buzz about a woman leading a big blockbuster action movie. lots of pop-feminist discourse, "get away from her you bitch," etc.

plus, aliens rocks so hard.

Turner IS pretty good in Peggy Sue.

aliens is the only one i've seen (and not likely to ever see the others)

Pretty sure that's the case for most of the people who voted in this poll.

great gabbneb's ghost (jaymc), Wednesday, 24 June 2009 00:52 (fifteen years ago)

genre cunts.

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 24 June 2009 02:24 (fifteen years ago)

I've actually seen all five of these, and still voted Sigourney.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 24 June 2009 02:26 (fifteen years ago)

Me too. 1987 through 1989 are even more slim pickens.

My name is Kenny! (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 24 June 2009 02:33 (fifteen years ago)

four years pass...

Turner is really fine in Peggy Sue; wish Coppola had spent as much time thinking through the rest of the movie.

My alternative ballot.

the talented mr pimply (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 30 April 2025 14:46 (one month ago)

A much better alternative. This is why an Oscar nomination isn't a good reason to see anything for me.
