How many seasons behind am I if I watched half the post-Medellin disaster season?

My vagina has a dress code. (milo z), Friday, 19 June 2009 14:56 (sixteen years ago)

half a season

baaderonixx, Friday, 19 June 2009 15:00 (sixteen years ago)

Has this started up again then?

ned trifle is not working for you (Notinmyname), Friday, 19 June 2009 15:08 (sixteen years ago)

Milo has the great Smoke Jumpers stuff to come, yes? Loved all that.

ned trifle is not working for you (Notinmyname), Friday, 19 June 2009 15:10 (sixteen years ago)

season five was a real return to form imo. i almost didn't watch it coz the medellin-era stuff sucked such balls. hope the director-guy from back then (billy somnething?) never returns.

FREE DOM AND ETHAN (special guest stars mark bronson), Friday, 19 June 2009 15:12 (sixteen years ago)

had no idea those last few episodes were regarded by anyone as great or a return to form. kinda hoping i get around to cancelling HBO this summer before i get too sucked into this or True Blood again.

some dude, Friday, 19 June 2009 15:15 (sixteen years ago)

Stellan Skarsgard is a better "director goes crazy" than Rhys Coiro(yes, I had to look up his name).

ned trifle is not working for you (Notinmyname), Friday, 19 June 2009 15:22 (sixteen years ago)

The problem with season four is that HBO got a syndication deal and, at the last minute, ordered 22 or so episodes instead of 12, and everything turned slapdash. When they stick to 10-12 episodes, they'll do fine.

Eazy, Friday, 19 June 2009 15:40 (sixteen years ago)

The problem with season four is that they peaked in season two.

some dude, Friday, 19 June 2009 15:43 (sixteen years ago)

ep where they all tripped out in the desert made the entire last season worthwhile

I wish I was the royal trux (sunny successor), Friday, 10 July 2009 02:57 (fifteen years ago)

So what did people think? Vince looks oooooooold. And nothing really happened, although driving test was ok and Enzo Ferrari movie could be cool and the Lloyd hazing period has potential.

Oh, and what happened to Drama's bar?

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Monday, 13 July 2009 15:16 (fifteen years ago)

i am sad that this show is so forgetful about everything interesting. (who. the fuck. cares about sloane?) was very happy to see miss soprano still in the picture.

sean gramophone, Monday, 13 July 2009 15:51 (fifteen years ago)

pretty weak shit ep imo

FREE DOM AND ETHAN (special guest stars mark bronson), Tuesday, 14 July 2009 20:44 (fifteen years ago)

i care about sloane

canks: for the memories (s1ocki), Tuesday, 14 July 2009 20:48 (fifteen years ago)

I used to hate Sloane, but she looked so good in this ep that I welcome her back. Weak premiere though, but as mentioned upthread it may be setting up some good stuff.

the sideburns are album-specific (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 14 July 2009 21:25 (fifteen years ago)

I don't understand how this season started, there seems to be so many unanswered questions/plot arcs. We never see what happened with the Great Gatsby (I think the premier is coming up), but now apparently, Vince is at the next level of his career, and they don't really explain how he got it there. The Enzo Ferrari movie sounds cool, but I don't recall them ever talking about it previous to this episode. Am I the only one who's this confused as to what's going on?

sexy muthafucka' (gustywindsmayexist), Wednesday, 15 July 2009 15:16 (fifteen years ago)

Much like Aquaman etc. - it's set after they've successfully filmed it. And presumably he has learnt from Ari's previous advice to picked a film before your last one opens. Obviously they are saying it was filmed in Vince's new professional manner, without any problems or whatever that would make interesting telly. The next level thing just seems to be a more professional Vince, who has taken over Di Caprio's spot as a an actor that used to do blockbusters and is now loved by Scorcese, and if he wants to work with him as a lead, he must be one of the best.

You'd think they would have some stories from filming The Departed they could nick though, even if it was a rubbish film.

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 15 July 2009 15:50 (fifteen years ago)

That does make sense, I'm curious to see what they do in the next few episodes with all of this.

How many more seasons of this show do you think will be made? How much longer can it survive as a good show before they start running out of absurd plot arcs?

sexy muthafucka' (gustywindsmayexist), Wednesday, 15 July 2009 21:07 (fifteen years ago)

many xposts but i care about Sloane because she is bang tidy.

The Sorrows of Young Jeezy (jim), Wednesday, 15 July 2009 21:10 (fifteen years ago)

I more or less despise E tho so I don't know if I will ever be able to love this show.

The Sorrows of Young Jeezy (jim), Wednesday, 15 July 2009 21:10 (fifteen years ago)

uh i will also say that i give a fuck about sloan(e?), cuz she's really hot. but this was a really weak episode, especially for a premiere. as usual, just about nothing happened except vince did sweet stuff for being famous (lmao @ LENO appearance), ari is a vaguely funny asshole and E got teased for not being an asshole enough to girls.

the weinest of display names groanly (k3vin k.), Wednesday, 15 July 2009 21:11 (fifteen years ago)

Think they could do a season where Vince gets a hot girlfriend > fiance > wife > adopts an African baby > Turtle gets it stoned and Drama teaches it to play golf.

a hoy hoy, Wednesday, 15 July 2009 21:14 (fifteen years ago)

they could set all that to Sia's "breathe me"

The answer is it hasn't been a good show for a while, and they ran out of plots a while ago and just keep recycling them (and not the absurd ones, just the most mundane ones) over and over.

bonnieNCLYDE!!!!!!!!!!! (some dude), Monday, 27 July 2009 15:02 (fifteen years ago)

ill admit to laughing @ ari to turtle "did you tell them abt your hat collection"

but yeah this show's pretty lame and i mostly hate that i watch it

johnny crunch, Monday, 27 July 2009 15:05 (fifteen years ago)

Drama used to be so funny and sympathetic. now he's just some asshole who says "pussy" or "bitch" in every other sentence.

bonnieNCLYDE!!!!!!!!!!! (some dude), Monday, 27 July 2009 15:12 (fifteen years ago)

People who watch shows they think 'have sucked for a while' and complain about them on internet message boards are my heroes.

hey, like i said upthread, i keep kicking myself for not cancelling my HBO by now. and i only posted what i did in response to the guy who apparently thinks it's yet to go downhill at all.

Entourage is the heartwarming story about how a tightly-knit band of friends from the middle-class streets of Queens hang tough through the crazy ups and downs of Hollywood to become generic douchebags.

all yoga attacks are fire based (rogermexico.), Monday, 27 July 2009 19:33 (fifteen years ago)

Y'all are crazy, I liked it. Sure, it was boring and mundane. Sure, Lloyd's initiation is looking like a giant wasted opportunity. Sure, Drama has become a pointless waste of a character. Sure, E looks like a creepy peado and I really don't give a shit about him. Sure, it's illogical that a dude that had to bribe his driving instructor to pass his test about two weeks previous can win in a ferrari race against his own fucking driver is stupid as can be. But it's enjoyable, turn off my brain and stare at pretty things telly that isn't being made enough elsewhere at the moment.

"lol" as frivolity (Stevie D), Wednesday, 29 July 2009 20:03 (fifteen years ago)

three episodes in and i've not seen them set up anything at all for the season. are we supposed to be hooked by gary cole leaving his wife whom we don't know or care about?

then you've got vince being on his own. oh wait, e has ditched his business to chill out. ugh.

The Devil's Avocado (Gukbe), Monday, 3 August 2009 12:35 (fifteen years ago)

i usually enjoy this show even when everyone else seems to hate on it, file under "turn off my brain and stare at pretty things", but this last episode surely must be the worst piece of crap they have ever done

sonderangerbot, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 13:09 (fifteen years ago)

its not comfortable to see him shirtless every episode ill give you that

johnny crunch, Tuesday, 4 August 2009 17:19 (fifteen years ago)

i guess its pretty obv that it was a huge mistake to make eric and turtle the focus of this season turtles a pretty shallow character and e is just sum visor-wearing pervert. they are too sated and self-satisfied theres nothing really much at risk here its boring. really it kinda seems like the show doesnt have anywhere left to go or anything much left to say abt these dudes except every1 buying balla cars all the time

itd be pretty rad and n/l if the show completely shifted focus to the female characters who do seem pretty sharp and interesting ~ like to no more abt e's girl's family lyfe what parents let a preteen stay out all night and were all that make-up? and sloan and the jr agent from the o.c. are waaaaaay more compelling than sum im super rich but kinda bored what should i do?

or the show does a sopranos homage with vince and e in paris

o comely wite kidz f8 has it in for u (Lamp), Monday, 10 August 2009 20:02 (fifteen years ago)

Think they should just give Lloyd a spin off where he runs his own agency, with Drama his only client trying to break back into the moving pictures.

max, Monday, 10 August 2009 23:18 (fifteen years ago)

Why has no-one ever just followed Ari's advice? There'd be none of these boring ass women troubles if E and writer-agent-dude just shut the hell up and carried on with their life.

Gotta say it was great to see Drama self-destruct on set, as opposed to it being a story in passing about how he did it on X show or Y film.

Would love it if they did an episode where Vince's sex tape comes out but it's v. unlikely - which is why this season sucks; so much potential, so little actually done with it.

Great idea here.

Squash weather (Eazy), Thursday, 24 September 2009 17:57 (fifteen years ago)

this was the only good episode so far this season. crazy child finally dumped, lloyd & drama sexy fun times and if you pause it at the right time you can see the moment turtle's heart breaks. plus vince was pretty and in the background as per usual.

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 24 September 2009 21:58 (fifteen years ago)

last couple of episodes have been really good, i think.

caek, Thursday, 24 September 2009 23:07 (fifteen years ago)

i agree. i guess they remembered what works and brought back some corporate boardroom excitement. eric & sloane still the worst will they/won't they ever though, really hoped we had seen the last of that

sonderangerbot, Monday, 28 September 2009 22:27 (fifteen years ago)

so long pointless season. ari with the paintball gun was alright though.

The Devil's Avocado (Gukbe), Monday, 5 October 2009 18:35 (fifteen years ago)

Would have been better if Turtle proposed to Jamie than E-Sloane, but then I just don't like E and Sloane very much.

Bono seems quite an arsehole even when it is fiction.

Yeah, fucking pointless season. Through all 12 episodes, what actually happened? Did Vince do ANYTHING? What is even the point of him being a character anymore? Not even a love interest or a creative project or anything?

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Monday, 5 October 2009 19:06 (fifteen years ago)

there was a moment at the end of an episode early on where he was in the house alone because everyone had other things to do. i thought that would be the beginning of some kind of character arc but they didn't bother doing anything with it at all.

The Devil's Avocado (Gukbe), Monday, 5 October 2009 21:07 (fifteen years ago)

uhhh why do you want vince to do something

this show is best when its not about him

Cousin Larry Soetoro (jeff), Monday, 5 October 2009 21:08 (fifteen years ago)

they could at least try. this show is best when ari is having business meltdowns and vince is struggling in the industry.

The Devil's Avocado (Gukbe), Monday, 5 October 2009 21:09 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, at least pretend to care about your main character. Would it be that hard to have a 'lol teaching Drama about acting 101' or hitting on jamie/sloane or ANYTHING? At least in the past when he had fuck all to do he'd still be doing commercials or whatever in the background.

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Monday, 5 October 2009 21:31 (fifteen years ago)

uhhh its called entourage

Cousin Larry Soetoro (jeff), Monday, 5 October 2009 21:39 (fifteen years ago)

some dude, Tuesday, 2 March 2010 19:52 (fifteen years ago)

eye roll to real laughs ratio definitely leans toward the former. Guzman can be funny in this. The lead is kind of a whiney bitch but I’ll keep watching. Shit is like 20 mins long so yeah ”I pay for HBO, so why not?”

carne asada, Tuesday, 2 March 2010 19:59 (fifteen years ago)

It must be written by the same team as Entourage, every episode has the same setup - two minutes til the curtain there's a big YEAH WE'RE STILL BROS LET'S DO THIS solution to the episode's problem.
