how many ILx-ers do you personally know?

I'm thinking really of how many do you know independently of ILx, or how many did you know before ILx was set up?

DV, Tuesday, 4 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

this is another thread about how ILx is possibly a huge gang of London based old-school chums that a few of us occasionally get to join in with.

I know Edinburgh Alex, Tom, Rener, and Andrew Farrell independently of Greenspun. some other names look familiar from other interweb things like Sinister.

DV, Tuesday, 4 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I knew Alex T, Pete, Emma, Andrew L, and the Dirty Vicar before ILX, and I think I met Tim H, Edna and the Pinefox for the first time around the time ILX started. I knew a load of other people from the interweb too of course.

Tom, Tuesday, 4 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

know most people from Sinister, N., Cookie, Madchen, Mark C etc Jonnie from years back, but everyone else through ILx.

chris, Tuesday, 4 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I knew zero ILXerz before ILX.

jel --, Tuesday, 4 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I know Andrew Farrell independently of greenspun but I only discovered this was the case recently.

Ronan, Tuesday, 4 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

that Andrew.

DV, Tuesday, 4 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I've known Martin Skidmore for nearly twenty years, back when that database was but a far-off dream, and Tom for five or six.

DV, I seem to remember you saying that you were involved w/ 'Frank's Apa', so we prob. have a few mutual aquaintances - James 'old Etonian' W*llis, or D*vid How*rth, to name but two. I never joined because of the Zappa connection, obv.

The 'other' Andrew, Tuesday, 4 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

None.

toraneko, Tuesday, 4 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sorry :(

Gale, Tuesday, 4 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i bangbussed you all in a past life

Graham, Tuesday, 4 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

There's an entire posse of folks I knew from USENET (specifically alt.music.alternative) who post here. Since this board started up, I've gotten the chance to meet some of them and it was Good Fun.

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 4 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Was on a Dandy Warhols mailing list with Kate about 5 years ago otherwise until last Friday had yet to meet anyone in person.

Mr Noodles, Tuesday, 4 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Unsurprisingly, what Dan said. Brian I've known for a decade now, the sometimes-posting Chris Barrus and stripey almost as long, folks like Nichole and Melissa Mess-Injure I knew separately from the boards, there's the core a.m.a. crew, etc.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 4 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

when i finish my book i shall design my book tour to meet everyone inc. gale and toraneko, so BE WARNED (better still, be on holiday...)

mark s, Tuesday, 4 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Arrr, we are USENET PIRATES! (featuring Ethan Padgett as G****** B**, ha ha ha ha ha) (inside jokes are bad, mmkay?)<mackey>

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 4 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

are the asterisks so they can't find themselves on google?

no one ever mentions Zappa in Frank's APA.

DV, Tuesday, 4 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ethan Padgett as G****** B**

This is a BAD IMAGE.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 4 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

no one ever mentions Zappa in Frank's APA Yes, but the name was enough to put me off, same as Andrew. And actually, Andrew, we met about 21 years ago. Almost exactly, I think - I believe it was the first weekend in June, 1981, but it might have been April or August, I suppose.

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 4 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I know a pile of ILx people via Sinister -- the same as a few other people, obviously. DV once claimed to have met me, but I have absolutely no memory of it. I must have been drunk.

Caitlin, Tuesday, 4 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ethan as G****** B**? If anything the ANTI G****** B***... remember discussion of wanting to have B** D**** f***ing a R*b*t?

***** *********, Tuesday, 4 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Very true, B****. I just wanted to give Ned nightmares.

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 4 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

AHEM.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 4 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, so this isn't a thread asking how many ILx-ers do you know in the Biblical sense...

Ms. Mess-injure if you're nasty, Wednesday, 5 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, so this isn't a thread asking how many ILx-ers do you know in the Biblical sense...

Melissa, that's a separate thread, altogether;>

As I'm still a babe to ILX, there ain't many, though I'm guilty of knowing Ned, Brian and stripey for nearly 4 years.

Nichole Graham, Wednesday, 5 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

pre-board? only Ambrose and Ed, for about 3 years or so...

gareth, Wednesday, 5 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Loads. (Tom's list pretty much covers me with the possible exception of the Dirty Vicar).

Pete, Wednesday, 5 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

What sort of book are you writing Mark?

toraneko, Wednesday, 5 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Have never met or spoken to any regular ILx'er (unless some people I know are posting pseudonymously), but probably know mark s (since 1991) better than I know most people I have met and spoken with.

Frank Kogan, Wednesday, 5 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Mark's book is about his relationship to me.

Frank Kogan, Wednesday, 5 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Occasional posters that I have met: Bill Routt, my brother Richard, my cousin Beth, Hyman E. Savanarola.

Frank Kogan, Wednesday, 5 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

it's a critical history of music and technology, toraneko

mark s, Wednesday, 5 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

obviously, there are jokes about indie here and there on ILM, but if you like indie then why be so defensive?. we're cosmically spiritually intertwined, duuuude. i know it must be endlessly rewarding to develop such a carefully calculated theory about symmetric tracks per side (or STPS as the kids are calling it), but the records sound so much better when you actually take them out of the sleeves and play them once in a while. i know, then it won't be mint anymore, but you could always ebay it. ethan rocks. isn't listing a desk full of non-indie being indie apologetic! it rocks. i've got a massive crush on a teensie boy called cornflakeboy. he's mad - everytime we meet my insides turn into quivery jelly & i become a stammering dork. woot!

screaming on the inside, when it's silent on the outside. i'm going to check my mailbox. hopefully the mixtape from ned raggett will be there... its about time, took me what, 2 whole minutes to think of a new diary name...

we went to the health food store and later bmx-ed to the zinefest where i bought an adorable toy robot and some vinyl by death cab for cutie and the murdering monsters!

indykid, Wednesday, 5 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I've known Indykid for years and years. Apparently we walked to the store together at some point and Indykid bought records. Indykid thinks I'm "spiffy."

Thankfully I don't know any of the rest of your in my personal life, although I've now met maybe 3/4 of the Chicagoans, some of the New Yorkers, and Ned.

nabisco%%, Wednesday, 5 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hurrah! I count for something.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 5 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

tom is hotttttt. mmmmmmmm my insides quiver at the thought of him.......... treading water still, but inhaling a hell of a lot of it!!! isn't listing a desk full of non-indie being indie apologetic! yay... we're cosmically spiritually intertwined, duuuude. now i am going to take my V cans to the recycling bin and check the mail. i'm invited to charlotte and hamish's pyjama party. nabisco and kathleen will be there (and my secret crush ethan.) i'll be wearing my new spangly pyjamas. its about time, took me what, 4 whole minutes to think of a new diary name.

i really want a glitter pen. we're not cool, but we're that much cooler for it!!!

woot. it rocks.

indykid, Wednesday, 5 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

NED COUNTS FOR EVRYTHING! hurry up and come to Dunedin, Ned! I'm counting on you to preserve whats left of my precious sanity, you know. And also be the first ILXer outside of Dunedin that I will know personally.

rainy, Wednesday, 5 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

seconded.

di, Wednesday, 5 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ethan as G****** B**? If anything the ANTI G****** B***...

Not really. The flip side of the coin, but it's still the same coin.

Nicole, Wednesday, 5 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

indykid wants a nose/noisebleed

ducklingmonster, Wednesday, 5 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

many movies have been made about AI programs gaining lives of their own and doing things they weren't programmed to do and now i'm scared. uh okay i've met haloist, di, esskay, ducklingmonster, doorag, "George Gossett", rainy, maryann, menelaus, petra (and maybe more?). i've never met indykid but i'll keep my door locked just in case it tries to get revenge.

hamish, Wednesday, 5 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

POW!

ducklingmonster, Wednesday, 5 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

my post was written before i read ducklingmonsters... it was in reference to indykid's new found ability to post to ILE/ILM.

hamish, Wednesday, 5 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

hey if your gonna take the piss outta saddoes like me please don't imply we like hamish.

indykid, Wednesday, 5 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i knew hamish, liz, menelaus, duckling, maryann, duane, ess kay and petra independantly of ile. i guess i sorta met rainy through ile.

lucylurex, Wednesday, 5 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

hamish, Wednesday, 5 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

indykid, Wednesday, 5 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

To Rainy and Di -- aw. *blush* Three months and counting. :-)

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 5 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

hamish why did you put "george gossett" in quotes? don't you think he's real?

, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

george gossett always does computer stuff in the nude because of some theory about static electricity. so my sister claims.

, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

oh, george gossett is real?

rainy, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

yes.

, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

nineteen years pass...

"george gossett always does computer stuff in the nude because of some theory about static electricity. so my sister claims."

may his memory be a blessing
