I need to identify this novel which I read years ago, but can't remember the author or the exact title. It was written in the early 20th century (in the 1910s or 1920s, IIRC), and it was at least partially a satire of The Sorrows of Young Werther. I think it was also inspired by psychoanalysis, and it had some fairly gory and over-the-top scenes. The main character was a prince or a king or something like that, and the title of the book had the word "king"/"prince" and his name in it. It took place in Continental Europe and was written by a European.

I'm thinking it might've been written by a Czech or a Hungarian, but I could be wrong about that.

It's not I Served the King of England by Bohumil Hrabal, is it? (it's a great book)

No, that's not it. I'm quite sure the title had the name of the prince/king/other nobleman in it.

Ah, I found it! It's "The Sufferings of Prince Sternenhoch" (from 1928) by Ladislav KlĂma, who was Czech, as I remembered.

Looks interesting. All I could think of was Ferdydurke by Witold Gombrowicz, which didn't quite fit.
