it helps if both sides are aware of the pointless procedure-following inevitability of it, and bullshit through it as quickly as possible

if your boss is really, really into appraisals I can only suggest a gun

or maybe paper-cutting him to death using a competency-based application form

Man, that was one fast appraisal!

in my dept. "annual appraisals" have become sort of random occurrences. the most recent one was 2 yrs. 4 mos. since the last one. and now we keep shedding bosses through attrition and other means, so i'm not even sure who's left to do the appraisals. i doubt anyone will miss them.

(my dept. at this point is basically one boss away from being a totally self-organizing communitarian endeavor...)

Yes, either way they make me feel awkward and weirded out. This year will not be a great appraisal, I don't think.

our appraisals now have to include something called "360 Feedback". this means someone you work with closely gives you like a little mini-review. but it's not anonymous!! what is the point of that??

not to mention that one person's feedback is more like "1 degree Feedback" but eh

isnt 360 degrees of feedback basically feedback on yourself

360 degrees feedback is where you tell your boss what you think of them and they tell you what you think of them. where i work, that's called coffee break but that's just the culture in our organisation.

they tell you what they think of you, obviously.
