The Let's Discuss My Fave Television Show Quantum Leap Thread

I did a search, but apparently there's been no thread for Quantum Leap on ILX. I loved it as a kid, and every few years go back and watch its five seasons. It can be uneven at times, but when it's on, it's heartbreaking and amazing. I just discovered that it's all available on Netflix Watch Immediately, so I've been watching through it again. In a lot of ways, it's similar to Star Trek: TNG in terms of its progressive politics, its look back on 1960s politics, and its do-good'ness.

Also, Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell are obviously amazing. All of the core plot episodes (w/r/t Al + Beth, or Sam's family) are incredible, but for an episode I didn't really appreciate until I started rewatching them this week -- the Don Quixote episode is so good!

the writers evidently weren't that familiar with early 20th century drama

I always wanted Alan J. Pakula to direct a vampire movie with him in it. "Scott Bakula in Alan J. Pakula's 'Dracula.'"

Did I imagine there being an evil female time traveller in a later season? No one I've talked to about it can remember her.

RIP Dean Stockwell

Dean. My oldest friend. A godfather-figure to my daughter, Amber. Brilliant artist. Loving dad. We met on the set of The Boy With Green Hair, stayed close til his last breath.

Rest easy now, brother. Give Dennis a hug from me when you see him on the other side. #DeanStockwell pic.twitter.com/BmotHFEmp0

RIP Dean. A great actor. Always great to see him pop up in shows like Murder, She Wrote and Columbo as well as his more well-known roles.

The last episode of Quantum Leap, easy top three all time show finale. Maybe my favorite, and the only undeleted item on my DVR. Perfect for all its character callbacks, Bruce McGill's perfect casting as the bartender, and Sam's selfless decision to continue on.

As much exposition as Al delivers, the chemistry between Dean and Scott made the Al character even more indispensable. The writers thought enough of him to make Sam's last televised act righting Al & Beth's marriage.

RIP.

The reboot was unwatchable.

Instead of Al, it was the dude's girlfriend showing up everywhere and yelling "What are you doing? Call the police! You're going to get yourself killed!"
