When's the last time an asshole mowed over your dreams?

Melissa W, Wednesday, 5 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

NME thing didn't work out?

Sterling Clover, Wednesday, 5 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No, though the reason I'm asking about the NME has something to do with a particular asshole.

Melissa W, Wednesday, 5 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

thom yorke mowed your dreams?

, Wednesday, 5 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Was it Steven Wells? He was a cunt of some of us, ha. You can probably still read about it, somewhere.

Ally C, Wednesday, 5 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

This happens to me every fucking day. You get used to it. I think you should call up some US mags and talk to them, luv - a lot of them would be interested. If I still had any of the old contact info for RS, I'd forward it to you, but I threw that out with the rest of my ex's stuff. Hmmmmmmmmmm....you should look for one of the Writer's Guides, you can get them at the library and then quicky hunt through anything music related, and just barrel all of them with your pitch. The worst that will happen is that everyone will tell you no, and then you just go have a good time with yourself anyhow.

Ally, Wednesday, 5 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

If I had contact info, I'd pass it on. Sadly, I am an unconnected hack.

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 5 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

What Dan sez. Good luck w/this project, I hope it happens for you.

Norman Phay, Wednesday, 5 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

today i got so filled with rage. please allow me to talk about it.

someone came into the gallery to talk to me about some stuff and I had some stuff to give him, letterheads and such and before he left I said "is there anything else I can do for you today?" and he said "just keep being your beautiful self" and honestly the rage I felt was indescribable.

rainy, Wednesday, 5 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

melissa I'm so sorry to talk about such unreasonable rage on your thread, and I hope everything works out for you.

rainy, Wednesday, 5 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"is there anything else I can do for you today?"
Why is everyone saying this lately? What is the correct reply? I mean, isn't it basically expecting the answer, "no thankyou"? (you're usually asked it after you've made your purchases and are about to walk out of the shop/gallery/etc.) I think I even preferred "Have a nice day", to be honest.

Jeff W, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Being annoying co-workers voicemail for most of today is filling me with RAGE.

Sarah, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm so full of rage. well, not really. i think i will go and do a phd next year.

I still must e-mail that radiohead article to melissa, sorry for being a slacker.

jel --, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i am full of RAGE for horrible and scary reasons, because horrible and scary things happened to my friend and he is now in trouble w/ the Man and is in the mental hospital and he is scared and sad and misunderstood

however then when i get some time (ie, can't sleep at nite because i worry abt his case too much) i read ilx and there are threads like 'backstreet boyz: classic or dud?' which is like cosmic therapy - suddenly all those problems dissolve for a few minutes and the worst most earthshaking problem in the world is arguing over whether or not wynton marsalis was punkz0r

geeta, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

also good luck w/ the article mel (though i still dont get what the big deal is about radiohead)

*ducks*

geeta, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am pretty much filled with rage too, because my stupid fucking University sent me a letter telling me I can graduate unless I take a day off for student orientation. WTF?????????? I took orientation when I started classes there, and I will be completely done with all of my classes when this orientation day takes place. I can't help it if there incompetent record keepers, and how does this even make sense? ARGH!

Nicole, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Are you sure it didn't say 'orienteering'? Are you a venture scout?

N., Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am filled with rage with our technician for acting as if I'd asked him to give me him first-born child when I politely requested that he cover the reception while I had a measly half hour lunch break *having come in early at short notice*. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Archel, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

N. is lucky he is on a different continent.

Nicole, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Orientation. *shakes head*

Um, Nicole? If you decide to just blow the university up when you leave, I'll be a character witness if your defense is justifiable homicide.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Jeff, the reason I ask people, "is there anything else I can do for you today?" is because it's my job to do things for people. I don't sell them stuff.

rainy, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

doh! i've forgotten to go through my NMEs. Welp, it's a long weekend down here so that's one way to while away part of my weekend..

electric sound of jim, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I get really bad road rage, especially when I'm running 10 minutes late already and so I take the alternative route (pronounced root) as it is usually quicker although more convoluted and the bastards have closed two lanes for road works and so we're all cramped into one lane and the lights are only changing for 30 seconds at a time and every minute or two another bloody train goes past and so the boom gates decide to be lazy and to not go up between trains because they are so close together and the dumb fuck in front of me is leaving at least two metres between herself and the car in front and that extra metre or so makes ALL THE DIFFERENCE!!!!!

toraneko, Friday, 7 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Recently my semi-friend (some kid who jocks me) accidentally put a roach burn into the my prized XXXX Cowboys rugby top I got as a present in 96.......that top was the best.......whenever I swooped through a tourist trap in the summertime some tanned backpacker Aussie slut would always shout out, "who's a cowboy?" and I'd have an excuse to talk shit despite never having played a second of rugby........it looked crispy every time I put it on, the vinyl lettering was indestructible, I actually rolled doobs on it daily in 9th grade and afterwards shook the shirt off as if gesturing to the poor kids "I don't care about crumbs"

Ramosi, Friday, 7 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

WHILE wearing it, obviously....

Ramosi, Friday, 7 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

b-b-but rainy - there's got to be a better (less provocative) way of putting the question than this. Like I say, I get it all the time in shops at the moment and it drives me mad. Alright, not as mad as you were with the answer you got, but still...

Jeff W, Friday, 7 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am consumed with rage at Spain for being shit again.

Ally C, Friday, 7 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

spain score morientus

DJ Martian, Friday, 7 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

How is 'is there anything else I can do for you today' provocative? Surely only a right psycho would be provoked by something so innocent & harmless!

Emma, Friday, 7 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It is symptomatic of this modern world's lack of TRUST that genuine POLITENESS actually exists any more that we start to see sinister subtext in innocent HELPFUL OFFERS.

Archel, Friday, 7 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

See previous post Emma - it's the way (on autopilot) and the moment (clearly after you've concluded your business) that it's usually said that's annoying. This does not necc. apply in rainy's case obv. Like I said, what answer is expected?

Jeff W, Friday, 7 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

This just reminds me of Graham's thread about being told off in the computer room. Don't get angry at someone just because they are low enough down in their job hierarchy to have to do what someone else tells them to do / say what someone else tells them to say.

Emma, Friday, 7 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, absolutely. I am not angry at the person. This is more of an abstract rage at the abuse of the english language.

Jeff W, Friday, 7 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Fair enough. Though my rage is never abstract but always focused on something / someone (even if it may seem irrational to everyone else it is nonetheless focused).
