sad news.

Billy Mays, 67, of Phoenix, Arizona passed away June 28, 2009. Mays was born in Dresden, Germany, November 25, 1941. In 1959, at the age of 17, he moved to the United States. He lived with his parents, Alexander and Charlotte in New Jersey. Mays married his wife, Lorraine and they soon became a family with three children, daughters, Bonnie, Debra and son, Ryan. The family moved to Arizona in 1976 to enjoy their life in the southwest and experience, "sunshine on his shoulders". Mays along with his wife became the founders of "Streets of New York" a restaurant company with growth throughout the Phoenix Valley. Bernd is also survived by his mother; sister, Barbara from Newburgh, New York and brother, Andreas from Berkeley, California, along with two sons-in-law, Andrew and Patrick. He was the very proud grandfather to five grandchildren, Logan, Austin, Brielle, Sage and Mikenna. He leaves behind many great memories of those who he touched during his lifetime. He will be greatly missed.

Mariela Ure (jeff), Friday, 7 August 2009 22:28 (fifteen years ago)

nasbisco this is what my friend who is a coroner says:

it works like this:
From the way the article is written, he probably had cocaine metabolites but no intact "parent" cocaine. Cocaine is known to make heart disease way worse, or even induce heart disease early in people who wouldn't normally have it. So something like "recent cocaine use" would go on the death certificate in a section for "other significant conditions."

OR they might put it in the main cause of death if they knew he used it before, like "Atherosclerotic coronary artery disease complicated by chronic cocaine abuse." I would have to know more about the case.

moonship ay to bay bay (M@tt He1ges0n), Friday, 7 August 2009 22:30 (fifteen years ago)

yeah, I guess that's what I was wondering, whether it was like "recent cocaine use contributed to this specific event" or more like "heart weakened by chronic cocaine use over longer term." it seems like it'd have to be a pretty significant connection to go in the report either way.

nabisco, Friday, 7 August 2009 22:34 (fifteen years ago)

wait cocaine, alcohol, hydrocodone, oxycodone, tramadol, xanax and valium?? guy is officially my hero.
