Recently these creatures were talked about on another thread. Someone suggested they should have their own thread and I couldn't agree more. In fact, I insist. I think these things absolutely rule. I guess there's probably only so many pictures of them on the internetz but I'd like to look at lots of pictures of them so if anyone can hook me up...

p.s. this is not "Isopod porn".

(image stolen from neatorama as I am not near it or my camera)

I mean, the label claims it's a "skalbagge", which seems to be Swedish for "beetle", but that's no beetle, right?

Anyway. Isopods rule. All hail bathynomus giganteus. More pics please!

You didn't specify giant isopods, right? So others are welcome too? Like this cute tongue-eating one?

StanM, Friday, 3 July 2009 08:51 (seventeen years ago)

Gotta say I feel a bit glum for these fellers marooned on dry land. Sure they'd rather be on the ocean floor snacking on a dead dolphin, than taking enforced shore leave with some hominid douchebags.

Enemy Insects (NickB), Friday, 3 July 2009 08:51 (seventeen years ago)

One of them tongue ones will be on display in the -ahem- horniman museum. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cymothoa_exigua

StanM, Friday, 3 July 2009 08:52 (seventeen years ago)

That tongue eating one is so wrong on so many levels. The fish has teeth like a human, for a start. Eurgh eurgh eurgh.

I don't know what to say except I love these critters and I want them to be happy on dry land or water or wherever they're supposed to hang out.
