So like pretty much everyone in the world blew off the last vague request for a get together, including myself, so like let's do another. June 29th, which is a Saturday, Sean C will be in town and is asking a bit on ILM but it's just not working cos it's buried in another thread. I figure we should have a nice welcome. WHO IS IN DAMNIT.

Ally, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hmmmm, I'm not sure when, but I'll be in the general vicinity of NYC soon. Probably not the 29th, though.

Melissa W, Friday, 7 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am R being in

Tracer Hand, Friday, 7 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'd be into it.

Douglas, Friday, 7 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yay! I will wear a scandalously tight dress and shock everyone!

Or alternately just end up wearing the same levis, sketchers, tank top and grey cardigan I've been wearing every day for the last 3 months.

Ally, Friday, 7 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I might be in.

rosemary, Friday, 7 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

what would it take, Rosemary?

Tracer Hand, Friday, 7 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I would wuv to be in, but I am in SF instead on the 29th...but you know, maybe it's time for a proper get-together there! Worldwide ILX celebration day!

Ned Raggett, Friday, 7 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I think we ought to meet up at the Blind Tiger in the afternoon, that place is nuts. They have men in straw hats and beards who chat with you about how spicy your Bloody Mary is and dogs walking around and an astonishing selection of beers and good light coming in from the Hudson and... oh SHIT! I just realized who the guy was at the bar who was talking to me about the jalapenos in my drink. ohmigodohmigodohmigod I am almost positive it was former owner of the Philadelphia 76ers, Pat Croce!

Tracer Hand, Friday, 7 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Tracer Hand, Friday, 7 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

dude, like anyone but you even remembers that guy. But I'd be willing to meet up there. Especially since it's not Good World/Elizabeth Mall. Not that I wouldn't be up to go to the Elizabeth mall on my quest for Tuxedo Mask.

Ally, Friday, 7 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Now you're trying to change the subject. I talked the secret talk of tomato juice and tabasco with the most ebulliently ridiculous sports owner ever! THAT's why he was so gregarious. It all makes sense now.

I would love the NY lurkers and folks who haven't gotten together to come out. jess, maura, rosemary, douglas, and i KNOW there are others slipping my mind -- I'm lookin at YOU.

Tracer Hand, Friday, 7 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I know who Pat Croce is!

But I'll be in his fair city that weekend, waiting for my gas and electric to get shut off.

maura, Friday, 7 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Tracer what is up with you and the Bloody Marys? I thought maybe last time it was just because it was early in the afternoon and you were still easing back from Friday.

nabisco%%, Friday, 7 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm sorry, I haven't really read the thread all that closely, but is PAT CROCE going to be there!?! That'd be awesome!

OK, don't mind me.

Daver, Saturday, 8 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I will be in dallas the 29th. you should all skip lame, overrated NYC and come visit ME in dallas.

word up.

Ms. S., Saturday, 8 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ms. S, I'll probably be in Dallas this winter.

Melissa W, Saturday, 8 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, what's with the utter lack of down-South ILX meetups? I'm tired of drinking with all the weirdos I work with.

adam, Saturday, 8 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

yay! Anyone coming to Assassination City please let me know in advance and I'll pencil in a night of drunkeness.

Ms. S., Saturday, 8 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Why, you drunks. Is THIS why we wish to visit the South? ;-)

I've got a good friend in Austin I would like to visit one day anyway. Perhaps in winter as well?

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 8 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Why, you drunks. Is THIS why we wish to visit the South?

No, you want to visit the South 'cause of all the culture. Culture and history and uh, drive-thru daiquiris.

adam, Saturday, 8 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm up for it, certainly. The way things are going, I'll probably be here;>

Nichole Graham, Saturday, 8 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Obv. I'm in, provided it's not too far afield (remember, I am a chickenshit rural kid at heart, and don't like wandering around by meself at night in the big city). As I mentioned on another thread over at ILM, I'll be staying at the Roosevelt so something not too far from there would make navigation and motivation a lot easier for me.

June 29th is best for me, any time during the day, even. Mayyyybe the 28th, if all of the PC Expo stuff is done by then (I'm assuming it will have wound down by then). If anyone needs to reach me urgently while I'm in the city, hopefully my Blackberry will be working: sean(removethis)@mobile.rogers.com (obviously, remove that part in brackets...don't want the spam spiders to pick up my mobile address). I'll possibly be wandering the city during the day on the 29th so if anyone wants to meet up beforehand and, like, record shop or something, let me know (or email me sometime while I'm there, from the 25th on).

Looking forward to meeting all yez! (Thanks Ally for the coordination yo)

Sean Carruthers, Monday, 10 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Just a check-in...everything still on-track? Ally, have you figure out a good place to go mid-town? I'll be available all day on Saturday, so we don't have to do this in the evening, by the way, it can also be earlier in the day, etc.

Sean Carruthers, Sunday, 23 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

if anyone feels like a lunch-ish meet time, i can swing by for a pint or three. i am flying out of newark (to toronto, natch) in the evening and need to be at penn station by 5pm to catch NJTransit. if that doesn't jive with people's schedules then don't bother rearranging things, but since an earlier meet time was already suggested i thought i'd throw my hat in the ring.

Dave M., Sunday, 23 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I really haven't had time to look into any place to go. So if someone else could make a suggestion, it'd be appreciated...

Ally, Sunday, 23 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Well Dave, since we never met in Toronto like we planned, maybe the two of us can meet earlier in the day in NYC?

Sean Carruthers, Sunday, 23 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

This is where I pipe up, suggest Brooklyn somewheres, and get yelled at by Ally.

Jm, Monday, 24 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

advance warning that i plan to be in NY sometime in early october. arf!

Alan T, Monday, 24 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No, Jimmy, I'd be really pleased if you stayed in Brooklyn.

Ally, Monday, 24 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

3pm, Blind Tiger, whut?

It's not in midtown but Sean, no one wants to go to midtown. Ally hasn't thought of anything there because it's a soul-sucking wasteland of lookalike "fast casual" sandwich shops and foreign banks that our brains would rather block out.

Tracer Hand, Monday, 24 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

One less person to not pay attention to you...

Jm, Monday, 24 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Or maybe 2pm to give Dave M enuf time to reach that pinnacle of the soul-suck, Penn Station.

Tracer Hand, Monday, 24 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Honestly, Jimmy, I don't want you at the meets, because the only time you ever show is if Sterling is in town. Buy Jimmy - get free Sterling! Uh, no. So that's why I'd quite rather you stay the hell in Brooklyn, because Energy Droid always shows up with you.

I don't really give a shit where anyone goes. Blind Tiger is as well as any other place. I don't know barely any midtown bars.

Ally, Monday, 24 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

sean = "never mind guys i uh, have some important hair appointments at astor place to take care of" Sean we promise we're not bitter and snarky. Much. Just speak when spoken to and you won't get hurt.

Tracer Hand, Monday, 24 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

? sean can't make it?

2:30, Blind Tiger. who's in/out? this is going to [be] rock[ist].

Dave M., Monday, 24 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

no no no Sean is coming, and Jimmang too -- isn't Sterling in Chicago? Ally you're a freak if you think he's jumping on a plane for this.

Tracer Hand, Monday, 24 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ok good. btw i hope you guys have chilled out a bit since the last meet i was at (potion)

Dave M., Monday, 24 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Can't promise anything but will keep it in mind. Like anyone cares. :)

Pyth, Monday, 24 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No we have become tenser

Tracer Hand, Monday, 24 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Pyth you mean you can't promise your attendance or your mood?

Tracer Hand, Monday, 24 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Can't promise my attendance. If I'm there I guarantee I'll be my usual self; if you're really lucky I may even be in premenstrual bitch mode.

Pyth, Monday, 24 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Pre-minestrone bitching is welcome.

Tracer Hand, Monday, 24 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Groovy, 2:30pm at Blind Tiger it is, I guess. (I have less problem with travelling around the city in the day, I guess.) Still, you'll all know each other, but how will I know you? Would anyone be interested in meeting up ahead of time, someone preferably who knows the rest of the group? I can't guarantee I'll be able to get access to the board over the next few days, though I'll certainly try just to keep on top of things.

Sean Carruthers, Monday, 24 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Energy Droid"

i'm just repeating it, Monday, 24 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

To back up a bit, I haven't been in town for the other ILX soirées, and we usually tend to make an occasion of the ones when Sterl is in town. So anyway...

JM, Monday, 24 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

sean: check out this set of photos for what some of us (Tracer, Ally and myself) look like (pic #1)

Dave M., Monday, 24 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Just to be clear, is the 29th definite, then, Ally? Figures that the Blind Tiger is one of the few bars I DON'T know; where is it, exactly?

More sarcasm and bitching to go round? Always fun....

Nichole Graham, Tuesday, 25 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

do we have a tentative role-call of who to expect emerging? judging from the thread, all or none of these people might show:

tracer hand
ally
sean carruthers
jimmy the mod
douglas wolk
nichole graham
pyth

myswelf

correct me / add your name if you dare. blind tiger. 2:30.

Dave M., Wednesday, 26 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Wait a minute! Wait a minute! I'm SO THERE, DUDE!

Michael Daddino, Wednesday, 26 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll probably be there.

rosemary, Wednesday, 26 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

So where exactly is the Blind Tiger? I'll probably be late, since the Wedding of Chunk and Chove is happening at 2:15 PM (cf. http:// www.chengwin.com).

Douglas, Friday, 28 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Wait a minute. That sounds fun, actually. Let's also factor in the fact that the Blind Tiger is in the West Village, and we're all meeting right smack dab in the middle of Pride weekend.

Michael Daddino, Friday, 28 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

heh - Mike would it sound less fun if we moved it, or more? I'm leaning towards changing the spot since the BT's not got a lot of chairs to begin with. Any suggestions?

Tracer Hand, Friday, 28 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Dear Sir(s),
if changes to our prior arrangements are in order, please make them by 5PM eastern time today, as i will be unable to check the interweb after that time.
Good day to you,
David J. A. M******

Dave M., Friday, 28 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm for moving it, or having one group go and then meet up another group later.

Michael Daddino, Friday, 28 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Something with a garden in case of nice weather.

Tracer Hand, Friday, 28 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

What's that place on 1st Ave where they love and respect beer, like DCA or DMC or DB or something?

Tracer Hand, Friday, 28 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Okay, does anyone have a problem with "DBA" (this is what it's called)? Here's a map. No food but we can hop across the road for some to bring back inside. Sean C you can get the F train at 42nd St / 6th Ave, or 34th / 6th Ave, and just ride it downtown till you get to the 2nd Ave stop. Don't dawdle over the used records they usually sell in the station there (or do!).

Tracer Hand, Friday, 28 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

WHO IS IN

Tracer Hand, Friday, 28 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Alright having read up-thread a bit Sean C may not see this late- breaking information so I'll meet him at 2:30 at the Blind Tiger. Anyone else who wants to meet there is welcome. From there we'll make our way over around 3-ish to wherever everyone else is; I'm assuming DBA at this point unless someone else says different. Aaaaight?

Tracer Hand, Friday, 28 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

sounds like a plan - i will also be at blind tiger at 2:30 and proceed with whoever's there over to the other place. see you all tomorrow!

Dave M., Friday, 28 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Douglas, thanks for the info 'bout CHUNK! I will be there - I love that bastard!

Paul, Friday, 28 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

shit yo, I guess it's on. I hope our own zaftig board-bitch shows, as well as all you "maybe"ers. note to non-NYers: this is classic New York behavior. "yeah I'll see what I'm doing..." yeah yeah beep me 911 bitchez.... 2:30 BT, then 3:30 at DBA on 1st Ave.... and if not - vas te faire voit!

Tracer Hand, Friday, 28 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

So is this happening today, or what?

JM, Saturday, 29 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I believe so!

Michael Daddino, Saturday, 29 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

don't know if this'll work from the handheld but i'm in the east village eating lunch. i'll be at dba btween 230 and 330 yo, so dont wait up for me at blind tiger. check the toronto meetup thread if you need to see what i look like.

sean in nyc, Saturday, 29 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

holy shit, i can't believe i can actually post from this thing. anyhow, if anyone wants to email me look upthread for my mobile address (search for the word rogers, and remove the necessary part in brackets). i realize it may be too late alkready, that everyone is probable enroute, but what the heck. see you there!

sean c in nyc, Saturday, 29 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, that was fun!

rosemary, Saturday, 29 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Zaftig! God, I love that word.

How was the meet-up, by the way? I spent the afternoon listening to a friend bitch about silly stuff, and I sweated a lot - it was like I was actually there! (I kid because I love, you know.)

Daver, Saturday, 29 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

We didn't sweat too much because we quickly reached a consensus a crosstown cab would be the best way to DBA (AC baby!!!!!). Upon gaining the East Side we remained sweatless because, again, the IL mob already present (Sean C, pton_mwaah, and Jimmy the Mod) had reached a consensus to sit in the garden which was nice and breezy and had a tent erected over the top. In and amongst the topics - who looked indier. Despite my red Polvo t-shirt and Jimmy's foam-front nylon mesh adjustable cap Sean C—who lived up to every Canadian stereotype: friendly, humble, and polite—won with his fetching yellow t-shirt and gas-station attendant get-up. Personally I think rosemary gave him a run for his money. Lid gloss and laquer Converse sneaks!

Sweat finally struck Nichole and I when we took an extended we're-starving-let's-get-burgers break (the sidewalk burger vendor had arranged his plastic pool chairs in the most blazing square footage possible). Somebody help me out here. (We were going to take notes but didn't).

We checked Norman's to see if Michelangelo was working - we thought not probably - and the guy behind the counter gave us a halting and unsatisfying answer about it. No, we pieced together. (MM I missed you at Coney Island!)

Tracer Hand, Sunday, 30 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I wasn't wearing Converse sneakers! And do you mean lid gloss or lip gloss ('cause both would be accurate)?

rosemary, Monday, 1 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

They LOOKED like Converse. But apparently none of us have any idea what the others were wearing, so blinded were we by the radiant beams of Sean C's indie threadz

Tracer Hand, Monday, 1 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

HEY YO. I didn't think it was particularly indie there, POLVO HEAD. Anyhow, I have some pictures at home and I'll possibly be posting them somewhere so we can settle this issue once and for all.

Thanks to everyone who showed up to say hi, it was good to meet up with you. Maybe I'll meet the rest of you next time I come down. And, as they say, when in Toronto why not look me up? (Well, email ahead of time.)
