is the animation as shitty as that picture looks

surm? lol (Whiney G. Weingarten), Saturday, 11 July 2009 00:09 (fifteen years ago)

it's king of the hill-ish animation.

scott seward, Saturday, 11 July 2009 00:13 (fifteen years ago)

it's weird, it's such a 90's idea for a show. maybe that's when he thought of it.

scott seward, Saturday, 11 July 2009 00:25 (fifteen years ago)

def. has potential - an exact flip of King of the Hill but just as lol-liberals as KOTH was lol-rednecks, still Mike Judge and could easily be as good. don't think it's going to last though...

but how is According to Jim still on the air, let alone a full hour?!? it's a modern-day fucking mystery.

Not No Cow (Fuckatimest), Saturday, 11 July 2009 01:10 (fifteen years ago)

holy shit every 2 years I'm shocked that According to Jim is still on.

Matt Armstrong, Saturday, 11 July 2009 01:48 (fifteen years ago)

That first episode suuuuuucccked.

Pleasant Plains, Saturday, 11 July 2009 02:06 (fifteen years ago)

KOTH was never really "lol rednecks"

surm? lol (Whiney G. Weingarten), Saturday, 11 July 2009 02:09 (fifteen years ago)

Also, According to Jim is over as of last month

That's happened three different times.

i watched one last week. pretty funny.

That one was co-written by Chip Pope, who was on Austin Stories on MTV a very long long time ago (he's a friend of a friend, or I probably wouldn't have known otherwise).

Am willing to watch this show until it gets better. Is already fairly good, but it's weird how sit-com-y it feels moreso than anything else on TV lately.

this looks horrible

come on let's be meaningful together yeah (bug), Saturday, 11 July 2009 03:14 (fifteen years ago)

the first two episodes weren't very funny, i assumed it was going to get cancelled

J0rdan S., Saturday, 11 July 2009 03:18 (fifteen years ago)

Unfunny and a little mean-spirited.

bamcquern, Saturday, 11 July 2009 03:37 (fifteen years ago)

KOTH was actually very warm-hearted in it's portrayal of 'lol-rednecks' in ways that the Goode Family definately is not. They recieve nothing but scorn from the writers of this show.

sous les paves, Saturday, 11 July 2009 04:25 (fifteen years ago)

I agree. King of the Hill was a really good show, and that definitely has something to do with the sympathy/empathy the writers had for the characters.

Mordy, Saturday, 11 July 2009 04:54 (fifteen years ago)

I don't know, I think there's a fair bit of sympathy for the Goodes, I think that maybe they've just been made too unlikable for sympathy to take proper hold. The wife so far seems the most likable, and the husband, when he took on that walk and then gave it up for his family, he warmed a little bit. The kids, meanwhile, I dunno. Ubuntu is too out there, beyond Bill Dauterive pathetic, and the daughter is more or less a non-entity.

It wouldn't matter if it were funny.

bamcquern, Saturday, 11 July 2009 05:09 (fifteen years ago)

needs more Stephen Root.

the one last night about the barbecue place was such a weird hybrid of a king of the hill episode and a simpsons episode.

plus, the wimpy hippie do-gooder thing has been endlessly revisited by king of the hill, simpsons, and south park, so it's just kinda impossible to make this show feel new in any way.

but i'll watch it anyway cuz it's summer and there's nothing else on. god, that bob saget show on before this one, talk about a time-warp. ABC should get some sort of booby prize for making new shows that could exist in any year from 1984 till now.

scott seward, Saturday, 11 July 2009 15:46 (fifteen years ago)

they should just go Ouroboros and bring back Full House, all grown-up and living back home in the new economy. could either be wacky hi-jinx of 20-something Michelle(s) having to share the bathroom with Joey again, or a touching family drama ala The Bradys. "you got it, d00d"
