212 and 917 prefixes unavailable.
You can search by words to see if anything's available; I wussed out and went with a 201.
In retrospect, I should've found a good seven letter word.
Suggestions if I get another chance?

It has voicemail transcription? If Google started offering a general audio transcription service I would gladly offer them my firstborn.

Stevie T, Saturday, 11 July 2009 06:41 (fifteen years ago)

sugg life (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 11 July 2009 06:52 (fifteen years ago)

i should totally get this
i could get a seattle number

tehresa, Saturday, 11 July 2009 06:59 (fifteen years ago)

I requested an invite now I guess I just wait?

i signed up for this like a year ago and just got my invite the other day and forgot why i was interested in the first place

why do i want this along with/instead of my phone or w/e somebody remind me?

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Saturday, 11 July 2009 07:27 (fifteen years ago)

I got my Gvoice number (323 area code) last week. I've slowly been changing to it as my public number (basically anyone I don't know and/or for clients) and selectively having it forward over to my real phone number. It's already been helpful in the few places where I needed to make a call but didn't have a land line or a mobile signal (but did have a Wi-Fi signal).

Admittedly, I feel like that if you can't defeat SkyNet then you might as well join SkyNet.

Elvis Telecom, Saturday, 11 July 2009 08:27 (fifteen years ago)

got my invite.
what do i make my number?
everything i've searched so far is not avail.

tehresa, Wednesday, 22 July 2009 22:49 (fifteen years ago)

tehresa, Wednesday, 22 July 2009 22:55 (fifteen years ago)

Jesus Christ, what is with the "block culture" these days. Vincent's neighbour is probably very lonely and misunderstood.

Good call:

Google CEO Eric Schmidt has resigned from Apple's board of directors as the Internet search leader increasingly develops products that compete with Apple's core businesses, including the popular iPhone.

Apple Inc. CEO Steve Jobs said Schmidt would have had to recuse himself from large portions of the company's board meetings to avoid potential conflicts of interest.

so i attempted to text someone via the google voice app on my phone but i'm pretty sure it went via my normal phone #, because the sms convo is not showing up in my google voice history. grrrrrr.

tehresa, Thursday, 6 August 2009 06:26 (fifteen years ago)

Actually, the mobile-optimized Google Voice page is pretty useful (never got around to getting the app) was able to send SMSes directly from there.

Elvis Telecom, Thursday, 6 August 2009 06:49 (fifteen years ago)

hmmm will have to check it out

tehresa, Thursday, 6 August 2009 06:51 (fifteen years ago)

one month passes...

this is crazy useful for recording phone calls... good quality and now i can do it from anywhere on my iphone

fleetwood (max), Friday, 2 October 2009 14:38 (fifteen years ago)

i wish it had automatic transcription for recording calls, not just for voicemail :(

fleetwood (max), Friday, 2 October 2009 14:39 (fifteen years ago)

love the voicemail transcription!

tehresa, Friday, 2 October 2009 17:45 (fifteen years ago)

tehresa, Friday, 2 October 2009 17:46 (fifteen years ago)

Don't start the chain you know? (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 29 June 2011 20:14 (thirteen years ago)

it's kind of annoying tbh

DJP, Wednesday, 29 June 2011 20:36 (thirteen years ago)

many friends still can't grasp how I can get txts w/out a phone

shaane, Wednesday, 29 June 2011 20:42 (thirteen years ago)

I love it.

I have no cell phone, but I'm able to text, receive voicemails, read transcripts of said voicemails and get e-mail alerts.

I give out this number to my doctor, my dentist, the guy at the garage, parents of my daughter's friends for RSVPs…. no one has to call my work number and ask for my extension to pass along a message.

AND IT'S FrEeeee!

Pleasant Plains, Wednesday, 29 June 2011 20:46 (thirteen years ago)

one year passes...

Don't ever change, Google Voice Transcriber.

This is a reminder that you have an appointment Monday October the 15th at 120 with Dr. Lefthanded at U. A. M. S. Shopping Center. Thank you.

pplains, Friday, 12 October 2012 18:29 (twelve years ago)

eight months pass...

is it normal to get an assload of 'wrong number' calls/texts on the first day of setting one of these up?

I got about 10 calls from someone in Colorado, and then a call and a "hey sexy" text from someone in Lauderdale. and as of yet, I haven't given this number to anybody.

I know usually this happens when you acquire a number that belonged to someone that's been in disuse a while, but this is pretty soon!

Neanderthal, Tuesday, 2 July 2013 22:43 (eleven years ago)

Jesus, ANOTHER one.

Neanderthal, Tuesday, 2 July 2013 22:47 (eleven years ago)

I've blocked them as they come in (usually after explaining that they have the wrong number) but this is getting whack-a-mole

Neanderthal, Tuesday, 2 July 2013 22:47 (eleven years ago)

i think you mighta picked a short straw somehow?

i didn't even give much of a fuck that you were mod (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 3 July 2013 02:26 (eleven years ago)

To answer your first question, no, at least not in my experience.

pplains, Wednesday, 3 July 2013 02:27 (eleven years ago)

I gave up and just paid the $10 to get a new number in a diff area code and it seems to have done the trick.

Neanderthal, Wednesday, 3 July 2013 12:07 (eleven years ago)

I have to wonder if the number was close to the number for a sex line or something as every text message was stuff like "hey sexy" or "how much?" from diff people.
