eh, boxers deserve their own RIP threads just like musicians get their own RIP threads imo

though you can just post my obit on rolling boxing when the time comes & say my right jab was underrated but my left remained a joke throughout my entire life

Guys like Gatti give us so much in the ring that I feel guilty at times. RIP.

Gatti was one of the biggest reasons I fell in love with the sport, especially his first fight with Ivan Robinson. I'll never forget how amazed I was when he somehow pulled himself together and won that last round in the first Ward fight. My hands were shaking for 10 minutes after that fight.

Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 12 July 2009 19:16 (fifteen years ago)

that's what i remember most about watching some of those fights. EPIC drama. the ones he won AND the ones he lost.

i gotta say over the years i found myself just feeling sad for boxers in general. they too easily become storybook characters or cartoons or metaphors for the human condition. so many of them just look depressed. but i really used to enjoy the fights! um, then i got married to a lovely woman who really didn't like the fights. so, i've been out of the loop for quite some time.

Gatti is one of my favorite athletes of all time. Just a guy who brought it EVERY FUCKING TIME.

This is very sad. RIP

I feel lucky to have seen all three of the Gatti-Ward fights as they were happening. RIP, dude.

i was just googling some pics of Gatti after reading about it on Wikipedia. he really looks like a guy from waaay back, like he could be in Hollywood boxing in the twenties flicks like Cinderella Man or something.

(RIP)

Watching the trilogy of fights against Micky Ward with a few friends and a bunch of drinks on Friday as a tribute to Gatti/celebration of my bday.

Those Ward-Gatti fights were insane. That sounds like a great way to celebrate a birthday, I have to watch those again myself.
