About the Artist
Although it took them a while to grab the World's attention The Shins' gentle pastoral pop has now earned them an enviable position as one of the most revered and talked about new bands of the moment. With flourishes of psychedelic atmospherics, beautiful harmonies and intensely personal and often bizarre lyrics their first album became a word of mouth success and now has the status of an indie classic. Their songs resonate with bittersweet emotion along with an often odd or unsettling atmosphere. For sure, The Shins are as unique a band as you will come across in a long time.

Product Description
The Bluegrass Tribute to the Shins reinterprets the band's progressive pop sound, giving their songs a refreshingly rural twist. The Shins' melodies and harmonies lend themselves perfectly to these beautifully crafted, countrified covers. Banjo, mandolin, and acoustic guitar combine to enhance the Shins' organic spirit. James Mercer's lyrics are given new life when they are belted out with a distinctly bluegrass passion. This album gives a discernible new flavor to old favorites.

Product Description
The Seattle-based rock trio is up to their usual antics of ground-breaking lyric writin’, indie-rockin’, and rule breakin’. Pretty big stuff for a band that named themselves after humble rodents. Starting at the heels of the grunge movement and the periphery of its epicenter, Modest Mouse wowed fans with atypical titles, lyrics and musical arrangements. The near-drunken cadence of lead vocalist Isaac Brock, rock-steady drum beats of Jeremiah Green and groovalicious bass lines of Eric Judy combine to form music unprecedented, anomalous, and singularly melodic.

Pickin’ On Modest Mouse is a masterful tribute to these indie greats. The banjo and guitar riffs on this cd will send chills down your spine; Modest Mouse’s music is transformed into bluegrass best described as uncanny rock. Where words may not adequately describe this musical extravaganza, listening is certain to do the trick. Don’t you worry, you’ll all float on with this mind-blowing tribute you hold in your hands.

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31MA9MAGSRL._SS500_.jpg

About the Artist
Like so many indie bands who hit it big, Modest Mouse seemed to pop up overnight when they dropped their smash hit Good News for People Who Love Bad News. However, they had been winning over fans with their mix of clever wordplay and eclectic songwriting for well over a decade by the time "Float On" took over the airwaves. The foundation of the band--Isaac Brock, Eric Judy and Jeremiah Green--have made it their business to create some of the most disarming music inside or outside the mainstream. In the end, it is their unique approach to popular music that has so many fans, new and old, swooning to their endearing anthems.

Product Description
Something You've Never Heard Before is an unorthodox tribute to one of music's most unorthodox bands. Iron Horse is treading on uncertain terrain to be sure, but their deft mix of technical picking and minimized harmonies has turned this album into a singularly haunting and angelic experience. It is a testament to the talent of Modest Mouse that this tribute will certainly ring true with fans of all music. Something You've Never Heard Before is good news to fall on anybody's ears.

Kickball in and of itself isn't really the problem. It's people that look like the ones in the 2nd-5th and the 7th pictures who play kickball that are the problem. Also, what Elmo said re the rules. As long as you're not an idiot like those in the aforementioned pictures you're probably OK.

ENBB, Monday, 13 July 2009 18:45 (fifteen years ago)

some ppl from the PVD kickball league went down to the brooklyn invitational tournament this past weekend and, from what i heard, got their asses handed to them by no-mercy aggro kickballaz in cutoff jorts. not fun.

PVD: "you guys are killing us, can we just say you won and then we can just goof off and play some schoolyard kickball without you getting all anal about the rules?"
BKLYN: "no."

are there mercy rules in that league? that'd be a real drag, driving all that way to have a team get 10 up on you in the early innings

indie athletes dressing like richie tenenbaum, is there a sport they will not ruin

Then, it dawned on me: "I HAVE BEEN PLAYED!" (omar little), Monday, 13 July 2009 19:01 (fifteen years ago)

xp well you didn't say anything about underwear ladies

i dunno, yeah it is really unsporting to have a bunch of aging soccer dickheads and ex-fastpitch softball rager type girls who blast through a non-competitive league for lols ~but~ there is something to be said for getting out there and trying to make something happen w/o a lot of kidsy bullshit. (ans: "you are playing kickball wtf") i'm horrible and my enthusiasm for it is wearing thin, but getting a bunch of non-jocks to the point where everyone knows what happens after a pop fly is caught on two outs vs three is pretty fun imo

goole, Monday, 13 July 2009 19:07 (fifteen years ago)

eh to be honest our league can be very much a 'scene' & it's way more social than athletic -- it bugs me sometimes when ppl don't put the effort in to talk to ppl they haven't met but at least i get to hang with buds and dress up like a zombie and throw jello & ramen noodle "brains" at ppl & shoot squirtguns & throw waterballoons & drink beers so whatever, i don't know if that makes it more or less 'alt' or obnoxious but that is how i spend some saturdays in summer

fade away & r80-8 (elmo argonaut), Monday, 13 July 2009 19:20 (fifteen years ago)
