i have dynamite display names concepts on the reg, but kind of wedded to this one now.

you forgot the classic animal/language name. maybe thats for usernames.

Was saying this yesterday but I'm getting tired of ilx user name puns. They can be great but there are so many of them now that even the good ones don't seem as funny.

I've actually thought about this. The best ones are display names that can combine two memes--one ILXcentric, one current events--into a piece of wordplay that looks and feels effortless.

probably the best display name ever was some dude's "cumlord millionaire"

I like things with pictures/emoticons because it easy to identify posters I like on threads where I can't be bothered reading all the posts.

Personally I'd rather go for a rate display. You can vote for the person (nay or yay) and the number is displayed as your username.

I say we should start the "Russian Roulette" way of using display names.

These days display names have gotten so silly and long that I never even read them, I just check the name in the brackets. So count me in the "basic" camp.

I'm (vainly)worried I started the 'fake other person's name user name' trend in ¡Rubisco OTM! bcz I was trying to get the world stoked on an enzyme.

fwiw i'm not swearing them off or running away from negative opinions of them, i'm just admitting that it can be overkill at times and could probably stand to be done by myself and some others in moderation

Don't like username puns, mainly just because it gets confusing when you're skimming the thread ("wait, was that dom, max, whoever the fuck special guest stars mark bronson is?".

I used to like pictures when only a couple of people did them but now they're so common and it just passes through my brain - to me they all become username=picture and so might as well be the same person.

Incongruous juxtaposition/phrase/quotation/wordplay can be great when done right, but be succint, people, please.

Basic=best.
